Pyinmana vs Naypyidaw

Hello, Hintha Great thanks and appreciate your contribution. I have seen a lot of Burmese grafic update and article update in wiki especially for Burmese facts. Hope, we can be friend but I have very less contribution than you. I notice, you preferred to use Naypyidaw instead of Pyinmana. What is your reason.

Personally, I dis-like the king system of Naypyidaw. --Uzawaung 23:13, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Burmese tofu

Thank you for adding the Burmese name and alternative romanization to the Tofu article. I can't see the Burmese font on my computer, though--do you have any suggestion for me? Also, can you check the part of the article about "Burmese tofu"? I was told by a Burmese restaurant that it's made from "lentils" rather than soybeans but I wonder which kind, and whether you might know more about this product. Badagnani 00:35, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

Download the Unicode font (MPH Yangon) at this webpage: http://fixedsys.org/~node_ue/fonts/. Hintha

Thanks, I downloaded it and I can now see the Burmese text in the Yangon article, but the Burmese in the Tofu article still shows up as blank rectangles. Maybe it's best, as in the first sentence of the Burmese language article, to just spell the letters through graphics if it's so difficult to get the characters to show up. I've spent an hour and downloaded 5 different Burmese fonts, and still can't view the Burmese word in the Tofu article. The Unicode font isn't very readable; the letters are small and skinny and not clear like the Burmese text in the Burmese language article. Badagnani 01:10, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

Dear Hintha, the Burmese characters are coming through very clearly and beautifully in the Tofu article now. Please let me know if there should be any change to the section in the article about "Burmese tofu" (the yellow kind made from lentils instead of soybeans), which I just learned about from a Burmese restaurateur today. Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 15% for major edits and 1% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 03:00, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello Hintha,

While I respect your scholarly inputs, you seem to have a pedantic obsession with the romanisation of Burmese. Do you really feel that you know best how Burmese should be pronounced? I hope you are aware of voicing rules that change e.g. htamin kyaw in written Burmese to htamin gyaw when spoken/read or si htamin to si damin , just as there are such irregularities in English. I accept that "Kyi" in a person's name should probably stay that way by convention and not written chi or ji neither of which quite gets it right. But its awfully awkward for someone non-Burmese to try and say it - Is it ky-i? Is "Tha Gyaw" tha gy-yaw? And why shouldn't it be confined to names of persons and places, why inflict this unnecessary hardship on the rest of the world by its universal usage beyond proper nouns. Jor works on an English person whereas gyaw stumps them. What's more , they'd say "aw" as in "saw" and not as the soft "sor". Why can't we make life easier for those who show some genuine interest in the country and its culture? A restaurant in Burma would normally have the menu in English sensibly without attempting to romanise every Burmese item. Only Burmese know how to say Ky/gy sounds and they certainly don't have to read it in English! The IPA is all very well for scholars but for an ordinary Joe? It's so dauntingly esoteric who's going to bother? I was taught at school a much simpler phonetics according to A S Hornby's "Oxford Progressive English" but most of my fellow 12-13 year olds couldn't care less. So, Earth to Hintha, please get off that ruddy high horse. 86.7.135.224 19:51, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Pathein.gif

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Pathein.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 18:19, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Myanmar sources

Hi Hintha. How are you? (By the way, I don't think you are "scarm," no matter what the person above says.) Anyway, the reason I'm writing is to tell you great work on the Politics of Myanmar page, and to ask if you have some good sources on that topic. The reason I ask is because I am writing a term paper on Myanmar's politics - particularly on how severe and continual human rights violations keeps the people from gaining enough power to overthrow the military junta and establish a democracy. That is my thesis anyway. Any suggested sources for me? Matatigre36 23:51, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Hintha, you know the "1990 People's Assembly election results" table that you put on the Politics of Myanmar page? Well, the number of seats adds up to only 479, NOT 492 as we have it and as the source, Adam Carr's website, says. We will need to see if we can track down some better info. Also, on that note, a lot of the sources I have looked at, including the CIA World Factbook and others, say that there were only 485 seats "available" for that election. If I come across the accurate numbers for the election as I write my term paper, I'll make the changes and let you know. In the meantime, keep up the good work on the topic. Matatigre36 21:50, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
I noticed that as well. Thanks. Hintha 00:12, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Ethnic groups

Hello, do you know if there's a complete list of Myanmar ethnic groups anywhere? The demographics article lists only a few. Badagnani 02:37, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I've begun List of ethnic groups in Myanmar. I started with the official list of 135 (re-alphabetized) and started a list broken down by language group. I agree that the government's listing is not particularly helpful. It's a huge job with not much information on many of them, so please add what you can and/or have time for. Badagnani 09:56, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Other strange things about the government list of 135: Moken is classified as a "Burman" ethnic group, when they are clearly a Malayo-Polynesian (that doesn't make sense), and Hmong doesn't appear at all, at least as far as I can tell, though I'm sure some Hmong live in Burma. Summary request

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Could you also turn off that option that marks all of your edits as "minor", even when they aren't? (I think it's under "my preferences" => "Editing" => "Mark all edits minor by default") Thanks! Ewlyahoocom 15:14, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Burmese script for Roman Catholic diocese of Myanmar

I noticed that you seem to be able to write in Burmese. I have written (rather short) articles about some of the Roman Catholic dioceses in Myanmar, and the local name in Burmese script might be a good addition, just like the Thai name for the Diocese of Nakhon Ratchasima. Can you find these native names? As you have also uploaded several images with burmese script - I think it is a good idea to add the actual text in Unicode into the image description. I personally don't like the image solution to show Burmese script - while they are a good idea to show the native name on systems which don't support Burmese script, however anyone who whould actually be able to read it would have his machine support them. andy 11:52, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

I know the Caholic Mission Hospital in Yangon was called ka to leik say yon and Diocesan schools were called simply daing o kyaung or daing o si zin kyaung. Sect is gaing and an archbishop/deacon will be gaing ok. Catholics are called bayingyi or yei hpyan (water sprinkle) and referred to in English as RCs; Baptists are yei hnit (water immerse). Perhaps Hintha can help with the script. Your best bet is of course Burmese Catholics who would know for sure. Help, anyone? Good luck. Wagaung 20:21, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Hintha 22:47, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Burmese font

Hello Hintha, thanks for the Unicode font replacing images of the script. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. You have basically a problem with the vowels:

ya gauk for ya yit, ya pet let for ya pint, wa for wa swè, a redundant a that, tha wei hto behind the consonant instead of in front, and a redundant "pipe" symbol

I'm sure you can fix it, please and thanks. Wagaung 20:12, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, the script you just changed back from looks OK to me i.e. bazun thouk, whereas I still can't read the current font. I don't know about the others but I can't get it right somehow; I guess some of those who don't know the language may also see what I see and think that's how it actually looks! Just a thought. Thanks Hintha for all your hard work. You do an excellent job as editor.

Myanmar article

In looking for sources to create Karen Rifles, I found this page. It appears some sentences in the Myanmar article were lifted straight out of this page.

  • "Burmese fought for both sides in the war. The Burma 1st Division, the Kachin Levies, the Karen Rifles and in other formations ... fought for the Allies...

and this whole paragraph that was recently taken out

The Karen Rifles did not fight during the second world war. The paragraph you reference was rewritten because it made no real sense and was factually wrong. There are few easy to access sources for the history of the Karen Rifles. I have lots of information/archive sources on them and I'm willing to make an attempt at creating an initial Karen Rifles article if you think one is needed. The short history of the Karen Rifles is that they were raised by the British in the spring of 1945. There were eventually three battalions. They were used against communists in central Burma in 1947-48. In late January 1949 when Ne Win was put in charge of the army and civil war broke out between the Burman/Karen, two battalions of the Karen Rifles broke away from U Nu's government. The third battalion was disarmed and imprisoned along with all other Karens serving in the military. The two battalions of the Karen Rifles eventually made up the core of what became the Karen National Army (KNA). 168.127.0.51 17:12, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
  • "One of the top figures in Burmese history in the 20th century is Army founder and freedom figure General Aung San, a student-turned activist whose daughter is 1991 Nobel Peace Laureate and worldwide peace, freedom and democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi of the NLD, now under house arrest. The third most recognised Burmese figure in the world is U Thant, who was UN Secretary General for two terms and highly respected throughout United Nations' history. On 27 March 2006 the military junta moved the national capital from Yangon to Pyinmana, which has been renamed "Naypyidaw" meaning "seat of kings"".

The page says it's copyright 2006 by NAM so I don't think it is a Wikipedia mirror. Can you take a look and help make sure the article isn't plagiarising or violating any copyrights. Let me know what you think. Thanks.--WilliamThweatt 00:03, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

After clicking on the profiles of other member countries, I found that the "history" portions largely came from Wikipedia mirrors (using Google searches on some awkwardly written sentences). For example, Thailand's profile [1] has written "The Thais are very proud that they were never colonized by a European power.", which appears in nearly identical form on the Wikipedia mirror at Answers.com [2] ("The Thais are very proud that they have never been colonised by a European power."). I would say that NAM copied portions or entire articles of countries from Wikipedia's mirrors. Hintha 00:58, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
And besides, I remember writing "On 27 March 2006 the military junta moved the national capital from Yangon to Pyinmana, which has been renamed "Naypyidaw" meaning 'seat of kings'.". Hintha 01:00, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

RE: Myanmar article

Excellent job with the "Culture" section. It looks great. I probably won't get around to working on it tonight...it's getting late and I've been busy dealing with Theonlyzarni and all his personal attacks and disruptiveness, I believe he's blocked now, but I don't know for how long. I'll start work on it tomorrow.--WilliamThweatt 03:48, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

I've added to the "Geography" section. Mostly descriptions of forests, animal and plant species, etc. Feel free to rearrange or edit as appropriate. I've also done some very minor copyediting of the "History" section. I have one question about this paragraph:
  • "In 1947, Aung San became Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council of Burma, a transitory government. In July 1947, Aung San and several cabinet members were assassinated.[7] On January 4, 1948, the nation became an independent republic, known as the Union of Burma, with Sao Shwe Thaik as its first President and U Nu as its first Prime Minister."
After the second sentence, it seems a little amiguous, reading as if the independent republic came about as a result of the assisination of Aung San and his cabinet. Was this the case or am I misreading it? I'm not too clear about this particular era of Burmese history.--WilliamThweatt 04:40, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Oh, the assasination did not lead to independence. I think I clarified the sentence, but if you still have questions, ask me. Hintha 05:45, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Too bad about the FAC. Don't be discouraged and don't give up (I won't). It seems the problem was with writing style, not content or formatting. If you know of a Wikipedian(s) who is gifted in the "art" of writing (as opposed to the "science" of writing) maybe consider recruiting him/her/them to help reword the problematic sections. I personally am very satisfied with the present content and think a reworking by a gifted writer would warrant another attempt at FAC.--WilliamThweatt 23:00, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Libya referencing

Please consider striking your objection to lack of referencing in the Libya article.

I have spent the last three days thoroughly increasing the number and quality of references. I have also updated the bibliographic style to be comprehensive and organised.

There are now over 60 references in the page and almost every paragraph and fact is referenced at least once if not more.

Your other concern was copyediting. Since posting your objection, several parts of the article have been re-edited by myslef and others.

Please reconsider your objection,

Thank you

Every edit minor?

I've noticed you've marked almost every recent edit minor, including [3], which adds useful info but isn't minor. Minor is usually just typos, punctuation and the like. Do you have My preferences -> Editing tab -> "Mark all edits minor by default" checked? If you make a lot of edits which changes any info, you might want to uncheck that.

I don't want to insult your intelligence or experience, but I am confused why most of your recent edits are marked minor, when you seem to make more substantial contributions than I do.

Also, may I ask why, in the same diff, you removed Image:Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.JPEG from the Politics section of Myanmar? I liked having her picture there, it seemed appropriate, and arguably didn't crowd the article. TransUtopian 02:49, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

"If you'd like to argue for the photo, please do so." Done. :) TransUtopian 04:09, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I have also made a case for the photo on the FAC page. I stongly believe it should stay.--WilliamThweatt 04:22, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

PNG to SVG

I would quite like to do the stuff you suggest, but my ETA for it is sometime next weekend or later (due to lots of high priority real life tasks), so don’t expect to see anything tomorrow. —xyzzyn 08:19, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

I’ve traced Image:National League for Democracy flag.png, but before I upload it, I need to know which licence to use. Just add the necessary information on the PNG file’s Commons page and drop me a note when you’ve done that, I’ll copy it from there. Sorry to hear the FAC failed, but you can nominate it again once the problems have been fixed. —xyzzyn 22:14, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
The {{insignia}} tag is not a licence, according to commons:Commons:Copyright tags#Other tags. I am not an expert on Commons, but, as far as I can tell, images there must be freely licensed (e. g. licensed under GFDL, CC-by[-sa] etc. or in the public domain), cf. commons:Commons:Licensing. I have no idea of who holds the copyright to the flag, if any, so I could at most upload it here instead of commons: and you would have to write fair use rationales for all uses of the flag. —xyzzyn 19:20, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Flag uploaded to Image:National League for Democracy.svg. I recommend that you replace the remaining use of the PNG version (at zh:全國民主聯盟), if possible, and get the image deleted on Commons, because it really does not belong there. —xyzzyn 13:06, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Image:MyanmarAdministrativeDivisions.svg done. Consider changing references from the PNG version to this one and nominating the PNG version for deletion and feel free to suggest improvements. —xyzzyn 13:54, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
… By the way, what exactly does ‘Vectors adapted from Geographica's World Reference.’ mean? You are aware we can’t publish derivative works of non-free books, right? —xyzzyn 19:50, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
You should generally give the source exactly as it is, and if it’s a commercial book, then that’s a problem, regardless of whether you could have found the map elsewhere. I’ll go look at CIA maps. —xyzzyn 11:24, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Which Web Browser are you using?

Please be aware that your edit [4] stripped out a particular Unicode charater that is essential for most South Asian scripts. Till you work out why your editing removed the ZWJ character, I would recommend you not to edit any articles containing non-Latin Unicode scripts. --Harshula 20:34, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

monastery

hi. no Nyannghwe is not a spelling mistake but it is probably highly likely that it is the other monastery you are talking about with a slightly different spelling. Many of these places have many different spellings e.g. Mt Shishipanga or whatever it is has about 7 different! If the other article exists I will move page James Janderson 08:53, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Kokant/Kokang

Thanks for the note about spelling about this ethnic group. Whatever you do, you certainly ought to make a note in the article that the "definitive" government site listing the 135 groups spells it the other ("wrong") way. Badagnani 00:56, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I see you've completely gotten rid of the former website. Are there any other differences in spelling between the two as regards any of the other 134? Badagnani 00:59, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Uh-oh -- Kokang is listed under Tibeto-Burman languages in the second half of the List of ethnic groups in Myanmar article. Should be the Chinese branch of Sino-Tibetan but we didn't have a Sino/Chinese subsection there. I guess that should be added. Also, are there any others in the Tibeto-Burman subsection that should actually be in the Chinese subsection? Are "Chinese" (other than the Kokang) classified as one of the 135 ethnic groups? Badagnani 03:35, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Sure, why not? There could be two ways to do it: a subsection following each one called "Unrecognized groups" or "Unrecognized languages," OR just put them in alphabetical order in the regular lists, with a parenthetical citation "(unrecognized by the Myanmar government)." Just as long as it's clear. I've tried since the beginning to stay with the internal logic of the official 135-group list, as we've done with the Chinese and Vietnamese ethnic groups article, so if we stay with that format, the above systems could work fine. I'd lean more toward the latter. The only problem is that the 135 groups are numbered in the top numbered list and that would throw it off... Badagnani 03:59, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh, those groups are listed in the lead paragraph. I see that the additional Chinese groups were added to the list broken by language group but not the list of 135. This could create problems of internal logic between the two lists, which I think we should try to keep correlated as much as possible (though I still haven't been able to determine the language groups for many of the ethnic groups--the ones marked with hidden tags). Badagnani 04:06, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

These proposals sound good, and you have more expertise than I, so I'll leave it up to you. One question: do you propose leaving the "Government list" alphabetical, or do you want to break it down by "races" instead (or in addition)? Badagnani 04:27, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi. The orphan template is for images that are not freely-licensed. Do you think Image:Bagan.png is not freely-licensed, or are you marking it for speedy deletion because you think we don't need it? If it is the latter, the proper place for that is Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Jkelly 16:21, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Wikitravel contributions plagiarized

Greetings -- some of your contributions to the Yangon article on Wikitravel have been plagiarized by a local magazine. Thank you for joining the Wikiproject! I notice you add Burmese text to articles, would you please do so for Scouting in Burma? Thank you! Chris 19:38, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Can you put this text File:Burmanamestrip.jpg into the organization name on the Scouting in Burma article? Thanks Chris 08:08, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you so much! Chris 08:46, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Also, can you transliterate the text on the scroll on this emblem File:Burmanewer.jpg? In English, it should come out some equivalent to Be Prepared or Always Prepared, or it may say something different entirely. Thanks again! Chris 23:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

A new user has proposed the rename of our project. I intentionally used both names so that all views would be represented. But I would like your thoughts as to which name we should choose, Burma or Myanmar, or leave it like it is. Please share your thoughts, thank you. And thank you for your great and tireless contributions! Chris 19:13, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your great work, if you had said you preferred the name one way or another, I trust you well enough that I would have supported it either way. You've been here making the articles better for a long time before I showed up. If ever you think I've gone the wrong way on an edit or a decision, just let me know. This hotheaded fellow won't listen to others. And those two redlinked users _are_ sockpuppets, you were right, I have labeled and reported them as such, at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Okkar. Chris 19:13, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
This is such a cheap tactic! accusing me of sock puppetry in order to get the upper hand in dispute, this is low. If you want to verify, come to irc.myanmaronline.org and you can verify every single person who is involved in this dispute. The address is irc.myanmaronline.org, you can find us all in #ygnchat - come and see what Myanmar people think of your discrimination against our country! Okkar 01:28, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Also, there is a new Burmese user today, User:Aung Phyoe, that is having difficulty tagging their images so they're not deleted, can you help? I have invited Aung Phyoe to the Project. Chris 19:48, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Hintha, It is in no way affiliated to the government, however, in order not get blocked, we have to attached the MOTD as instructed. You have to register a nick name before you can join. This network has been around since 2003 and has been used by all internet users in Myanmar as this is their only way out when gtalk, Yahoo and MSN are banned. btw, you are welcome to Myanmar Online (initially it was called Burmese Online and had to rename it due to the blocking). Okkar 01:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Hintha, you may find it informative that someone with the name "Okkar" used to post regularly on Burma-related listservs and usenet groups. That person would continually attack Burmese democracy movement supporters. Some speculated that the person was employed by the military, either in the US embassy or in Rangoon. Your idea sounds great, please continue (you're right, I've got a cluttered mind, it shows on the page, and that's something other parties exploit). I admire your grace under pressure-you've fared better at it than I. It's not that I even want to be Project facilitator, I was just the guy who first started it, I seriously have no agenda other than to see all parties represented fairly, and I am wearing down under the barrage. Your help is much appreciated, and I admire your Buddha nature. Chris 06:59, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Is Wikipedia the mouth piece of NCGUB? (Military of Myanmar)

Why was it necessary for you to remove Military of Myanmar from Myanmar category? was it not represent the country's armed forces or was it because you think it would offend those parties that you are associated with? What are you trying to prove? that Wikiproject Burma/Myanmar only paddle articles that are sanctioned and blessed by NCGUB? is that what you are trying to show? I thought you said you found it insulting to have been accused of having political agendas, but it seems your actions betrayed your words entirely. How can you be free of political motivation and agendas, when you deliberately removed Military of Myanmar out of Myanmar category? It just goes to show how you and your friends are exploiting Wikipedia as a mouthpiece of NCGUB to paddle their political stance towards the country. Okkar 17:39, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

You shouldn't aggressively accuse others of being biased without prior knowledge. If you actually took a look at Category:Myanmar, you would find that there are very few articles that exist in that category, because more specific categories have been created, which in the case of "Military of Myanmar" is the category of that same name. For this same reason, articles like "Economy of Myanmar", "Culture of Myanmar", "History of Myanmar", "Politics of Myanmar", "Communication in Myanmar", "Education in Myanmar", just to name a few, appear only in those specific categories and not the general "Myanmar" category, which is mainly for uncategorised articles and the "Myanmar" article. Next time, before you accuse me of trying to "paddle articles that [have been] sanctioned and blessed by NCGUB [National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma]", you should see how Wikipedia categories work and check out other country cats (e.g. Category:Singapore, Category:Australia) just to name a few). And don't warn me for vandalism without providing a more reasonable explanation. (This is a response to the following 3 posts: 1, 2, 3) --Hintha 23:02, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Hintha, you claimed not to have any political agendas in public but I see you have reverted the edits in Myanmar given "incorrect information" as a reason and added opposition leaning statements. The information was correct since i provided the link directly to the news page. If you can accept what Reporter San Frontier wrote as gospel, I'm sure you can accept what Reuters wrote as true fact too. Isnt it time you admit that you do have a political agenda instead of claiming not to have any in order just to get support from others? Why do you feel the need to deny when your actions betrays you? So please, come out and say that you do have a political agenda and that you intend to paddle contents and information that suits the propaganda needs of NCGUB. Okkar 01:45, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
I hope you're able to differentiate between factual and incorrect statements. Many of the edits you made were misleading. Please see Talk:Myanmar#Removal_of_cited_information_and_ISBN_numbers for a more thorough analysis. If any of my cited edits are "opposition-leaning", provide me with clear-cut evidence, other than your typical "you're-doing-this-for-the-National-Coalition-Government-of-Burma" or the "you-have-political-agendas!" argument. Thanks, and good day.--Hintha 05:25, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Hinta hello. I'm contacting you and some other member of wikipedia for a personal reason. I'm an Italian National about to leave for Myanmar. I've already been in the Golden Land managing business for a private italian company some years ago. This time I'd like to make a life experience there and find a job. Mission impossible? It would be helpful and interesting to exchange some opinion with you and have a clearer vision of what I will find. PS. If possible answer to my email address ik4fmy@yahoo.it

This user comes from Myanmar.

Good morning, I just created this, and realized we have not really got codified conventions like Wiki does for other languages. Since you are our linguist, would it interest you to try? And thanks for your exceeding good nature. Chris 13:23, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

ps-also how do you get the map to move the ball to the location of the city? Chris 22:43, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Greetings, Hintha. I would like to use your Burma outline map in the Latin Vicipaedia, where I have written a couple of stubs about cities. (I think I see how to move the ball, incidentally!) It would help if you could upload the outline map to Commons -- is that possible? Or if there is some problem with that, may I have your explicit permission to upload it to :la:wikipedia? (But Commons would be better.) Thanks -- Andrew Dalby 19:17, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Will you please help watch Wikipedia:WikiProject Myanmar (Burma)/Members? Our persistent vandal is at it. Chris 10:38, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Zegyo and Panthay Bali

Hi Hintha, I'm sorry to say I did the same thing, forgot to take a picture of the mosque at the time and then didn't manage to find another time to do it. Didn't get to visit Zegyo either. I'll bear it in mind, hopefully next January. Thanks for touching up the images I've uploaded. Wagaung 20:51, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Inya Spelling

Can you please fix the spelling of Inya in Burmese? I don't have access to Burmese type. It is Ya-p-let, and with the third tone with shay-see (two dots). The more formal spelling is with La and ya-pin, IIRC, as inscribed on the portico of the entrance to the girls hostel Inya Hall. Etymologically it makes sense, since it indicates a long or sleepy lake. So you might add both forms. Kanbawsa 12:56, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Please do. Happy to oblige. I took the liberty of using your Sanda Muhki image for Mandalay Hill, thanks. Wagaung 18:31, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

There's now a dozen or so new airport stubs in this category. I am trying to cleanup and merge stubs where I can to at least make them more meaty. Should I leave them alone or merge-tag them to their proper city? Chris 08:42, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Please also help with University of Mawlamyine, it has some good info in it, the author blanked it. Chris 03:21, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Redirected it. It says "late Burmese prime minister Lt-General Khin Nyunt." Did he die? We don't have that on the bio. Chris 04:49, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Somebody has listed Image:MyanmarSagaing.png for deletion. Chris 22:45, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
The listing for deletion was vandalism, and I've reverted it. I've also corrected some information on the University of Mawlamyaing article.--Hintha 02:56, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
I have been going down the list of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Myanmar#List_of_universities_in_Myanmar and adding them to their geo stubs. Those I could not locate the city, I added the fact-tag to. I renamed Yezin Institute of Veterinary Science to fit the list, and I created stubs for Hlegu, Panglong, and Yezin, based only on what I found on the 'pedia, which means they are rough and sketchy, please give all a look. Thanks! (how do you say thank you in Burmese?) Chris 05:36, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello Hintha, could you help me with this problem I haven't anticipated? I find that you can't google the article since the rest of the world has spelt Daw Ah Mar's name Amar. Although she herself spells it Ah Mar or Ahmar, I think we should conform to the spelling on the net. Do you create a new page and merge or can you simply change the title? Wagaung 12:00, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I've corrected the name to Amar in the article itself. Hope you'll sort out the title for me. Thanks. Wagaung 13:38, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Done it myself. Just scared I might ruin it. Looks fine. Thanks anyway. Wagaung 18:18, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
It's OK. Thanks for the disambig. I overlooked that. She was appparently named by a neigbour who rather liked the sound of it, a name among the Portugese descendents in her village, so not quite Burmese but it's a very common name since her generation. Wagaung 08:28, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

According to Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout#See_also, it stated that "Related topics should be grouped by subject area for ease of navigation. Also provide a brief explanatory sentence when the relevance of the added links is not immediately apparent" - therefore the appropiate relevances should be explained. In this case, no explanations were made nor provided, instead the article tries to mislead Min Ko Naing and Ye Htoon as scouts. This seems to me is a deliberate attempt to draw attention of particular user base (in this case - scouting fans) to politically motivated causes which has no relevance whatsoever with Wikipedia. Therefore, unless proper explanations are added according to Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout#See_also, the "See Also" section of this article should be removed. Hi, I just got a package of U.S.-produced chickpea (not kala chana) flour, so I'm going to try the recipe you put at Burmese tofu. In reading the recipe carefully, I think this is really less like tofu and much more like Muk (Korean food), such as Dotorimuk. The method of boiling, then letting it set and slicing up is exactly like Dotorimuk, which I have also made. Can I ask, is Burmese tofu's dough fermented at all, or just simply mixed up with water and heated? Badagnani 03:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Chris, I haven't had a lot of luck with this quest. Only some of my generation can remember the long defunct scouts organization; neither my nieces nor their grownup children had the faintest what I was on about! An old friend of mine said it was, though he couldn't swear by it, 'A-sin A-thint' which literally means 'ever ready'. You'd have to ask User:Hintha to render it into Burmese script. Help? :) Thank you! Chris 21:18, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

MLCTS

Hi, on 5 July 2006 you added to the article on Aung San Suu Kyi the MLCTS transcription of her name as aung hcan: su. krany. Is this right? I know nothing about MLCTS or Burmese, but krany looks very unlikely for /tʃì/. Has something gone wrong, or am I missing something here? Thanks! Vilĉjo 13:24, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:GHS infobox

A tag has been placed on Template:GHS infobox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:31, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Nsysuseal.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Nsysuseal.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 13:25, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:AJCrest.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:AJCrest.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sdrtirs (talk) 23:40, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:IMG0283.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:IMG0283.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Hello !

I was translating this page to the french, and I'm a bit surprised to read :

On 1 December 1942, the Ministry of Forestry declared the Botanical Gardens a "protected forest area".

During WWII, just a few months after the japanese invasion ? I'm more suspicious because I read also in the page :

On 1 December 2000, Than Shwe renamed it "Kandawgyi National Garden".

and :

The National Botanical Gardens is managed by the Ministry of Forestry. 42 acres of the site are a protected forest area.

See what I mean ? Well, it's not some kind of mix-up made by very creative IPs, since you're the one who wrote all this : [5] ... I see the good job you made on Myanmar everytime I'm translating it for Wp:fr, hence I'm sure you didn't dream it. But where does it come from ?

- Sorry if my message looks a bit harsh : my english is rather poor (I'm french). Thanks Chaoborus (talk) 00:36, 12 February 2008 (UTC) (my french talk page : fr:Discussion utilisateur:Chaoborus)

Pff... I wondered if you would ever come back and answer to my question (since you seemed have disapear 2 days before only). Chaoborus (talk) 20:41, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Naming conventions (Burmese)

Hi Hintha! Thanks so much for coming by Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Burmese) and adding your opinion. In addition to discussing the wording of the Honorifics section, I am also trying to build consensus for establishing the page as an official Naming conventions page, so that editors working on Burmese related articles can point other editors to it when needed. Feel free to edit the text if you would like to tweak it. I'm just trying to give us a starting point from which to work, and I left the text of that section almost exactly as it had been agreed on back in 2007. Right now, however, someone could go and move U Nu to "Nu" or U Thant to "Thant" and people who objected to this would have no leg to stand on. If you get a chance, could you revisit the page and express whether you support or reject it becoming an official Naming conventions page? Thanks for your time! Kaldari (talk) 15:37, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Image:Mingunbellmingun.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:Bell, Mingun, Myanmar, Image:Natmyanmar.jpg as Commons:Image:Sanda Muhki, Mandalay Hill and Myanmar.jpg. Commons is a repository of free media that can be used on all MediaWiki wiki's. The image(s) will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:Bell, Mingun, Myanmar]]. Hi there! I have just written the article about the Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park - please help me smoothen it up - along with adding more appropriate information and photos if possible. Uthantofburma (talk) 11:55, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Lin Xiaochieh

Hello again. I came across this article about Lin Xiaochieh and saw your editing of the article. Can you provide me with any information on this person? The only information that seems to exist is this article and a copy and paste of this (or vice-versa) on three other wiki-like websites. I asked people from Mandalay, and they do not remeber any such person or incident. Personally, I think this article is a highly doctored article - since it lanks any proper reference. Even the two links provided are irrelevant, with one malfunctioning. Even a search of the person's chinese name, or the organizations associated, cannot be found. Thanks. Uthantofburma (talk) 06:57, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Very strange indeed. Never heard of him. Wagaung (talk) 12:54, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Yangonuniversityseal.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Yangonuniversityseal.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Image copyright problem

Thanks for your uploads. You've indicated that the following images are being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why they meet Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page an image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --06:51, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Irrawaddy/Ayeyarwady Delta

Hi Hintha, as I really appreciated your earlier input, could you have a look at the Irrawaddy Delta talk page (here)? I posted a comment about the contradiction of the Irrawaddy/Ayeyarwady river related topics, and I'd like to hear your opinion about it. Thanks, Pim Rijkee (talk) 17:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Hintha! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 941 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

long time no see!

I noticed you removed a bunch of stuff from Cuisine of Burma, can you explain your rationale? Thank you! --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 09:16, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I simply moved the huge list of Burmese dishes to a separate page: List of Burmese dishes.--Hintha (talk) 18:08, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Ah, okay! :) --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 12:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Taunggyi.gif

Thank you for uploading File:Taunggyi.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:35, 2 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:35, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

It also reads Tawzagyi and not Taunggyi. Wagaung (talk) 13:59, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Never noticed that until now. In any case, it's not needed any longer. --Hintha (talk) 18:08, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
