Martinrea

While I understand that the Martinrea article lacked references, wouldn't it be better to just keep the unsourced content rather than making the article a single-sentence sub-stub? Kalimi (talk) 17:44, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Kalimi and welcome to my talk page. Everything on Wikipedia must be verifiable. Adding unsourced content goes against this very important policy. Anyone can add anything they want and we have no proof if it's true or not. This can be damaging to the credibility of the encyclopedia. Wikipedia is meant to be an encyclopedia but COI editors (like the one we are dealing with now) view it as another media platform to promote their business. In order to keep the sanctity of a neutral encyclopedia, everything added must be sourced. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:49, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello @HickoryOughtShirt?4:

I have been editing the Martinrea page to reflect the most recent company information. I am a co-op student at Martinrea. Can you please help me understand the correct process in editing this page so I can proceed with giving the correct information it is needing? Thank you for your time.

Hi IP and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for finally admitting your COI. I must first say that you must disclose your conflict of interest on your user page. You do so by following the guidelines at WP:DISCLOSE. Secondly, avoid editing articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors. If you wish to make substantial edits, you should use an edit request format. An experienced editor will review it and if it is neutrally worded (per WP:NPOV) and well sourced (WP:RS) it will likely be accepted. If not, the editor will explain why in detail. Further questions can be answered here or at the WP:helpdesk or WP:teahouse where more editors can answer and help. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:09, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

ITC Entertainment

The IP sock/vandal is back at ITC Entertainment. Any chance you could re-instate the page protection. They re-appeared less than an hour after the protection expired. Also Roadside Attractions and Template:Region 1 home video. Thanks! Railfan23 (talk) 06:10, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

Doris Bergen

Thanks for writing the Doris Bergen article. It is very interesting. Is there a citation or footnote available for her birth year or age? Flibirigit (talk) 13:25, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

New Canadian Hockey League president

Are you aware of this announcement? I have begun working on an article for MacKenzie, making it top priority. I hope to finish it by Monday. Flibirigit (talk) 17:16, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

No I wasn’t. Thanks for the update . HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:19, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
Dan MacKenzie article created. Does anything seem interesting for DYK? Flibirigit (talk) 19:30, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
@Flibirigit: I first must say this was a very well written article! Secondly, I have gone through and picked some Alts that should interest a broad audience. Obviously, him being the first full-time president of the CHL is a must-have. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 22:25, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
  • ... that former vice-president and managing director of National Basketball Association Canada Dan MacKenzie was hired as the first full-time president of the Canadian Hockey League in 2019?
    • ALT1:... that in 2013, vice-president and managing director of National Basketball Association Canada, Dan MacKenzie, estimated that the 2016 NBA All-Star Game would bring $80 million to $100 million into Toronto's economy.
      • ALT2:... that due to marketing ploys targeting a young and diverse demographic, Dan MacKenzie stated that NBA revenue in Canada grew 224% since 2008?
        • ALT3:...that in 2019, former vice-president and managing director of National Basketball Association Canada, Dan MacKenzie, helped create a Junior NBA Leadership Council to promote programs offered to local youth community groups?
Thanks, I will play around with these. Flibirigit (talk) 01:22, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

Possible COI at London Knights

Please see my comments at User talk:Jaymcarth and comment as you see fit. Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 21:05, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Done. At this point I have a pre-set template for these sort of things . HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 22:35, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. I will fix up the logo tonight. Flibirigit (talk) 01:21, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

60.52.84.133

According to [1], 60.52.84.133 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) is an open VPN proxy. The vandalism that came from it is also consistent with WhenDatHotlineBling, further suggestive of a proxy; could it be blocked for longer than 31? Thanks. Home Lander (talk) 23:41, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for the heads-up Home Lander. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:46, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
HickoryOughtShirt?4, Smiley You're welcome! Home Lander (talk) 23:47, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Vacation

Did you check with the front office? New admins don't get vacation until they have been on the job for at least one year. -Ad Orientem (talk) 01:44, 27 July 2019 (UTC)

@Ad Orientem: I'm calling in my sick days . HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:23, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
Sick days? What is that? Oh wait... your from Canada. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:32, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
Yup, we take all the sick days we want. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:38, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
@Ad Orientem:, If I were to tell you I’m going on vacation again tomorrow, would I be termed? HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:22, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
We're short staffed at present, so probably not. But this would likely prejudice your Christmas bonus. -Ad Orientem (talk) 23:54, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

Question about IP block

Hi, Ive been doing WP:RC and wanted to thank you for your help. Out of curiosity, why 31 hours? Seems like a random number but I see other blocks for a similar duration. Just trying to learn as much as I can... Thx Rob110178 (talk) 23:50, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Rob110178 and thanks for popping onto my talk page. Feel free to drop by anytime, I honestly enjoy answering questions. To preface, there's an admin who wrote an excellent explanation on their user page but I cannot find it right now unfortunately. If I find it, I will ping you. Blocks are done to prevent further disruption. As per User:NuclearWarfare/Vandal Warnings, a 31 hour block is convenient because vandals will often just wait a day and return. 31 hours covers 2 24 hour cycles and those vandalizing/disrupting cannot just sleep off the block and return the next morning. As well, per WP:IPBLENGTH, IPs should be blocked for short durations unless there is persistent disruption or vandalism. I hope this helps .HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:07, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Jennie Porter

On 30 August 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Jennie Porter, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that African-American educator Jennie Porter refused to let teachers at her all-black school join the NAACP after its local leaders criticized her views on segregation? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Jennie Porter. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Jennie Porter), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
