Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Grant3b1b. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page 3Blue1Brown, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Ionmars10 (talk) 20:49, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this, I'm obviously new at this. Would you suggest I revert the changes, or just add the relevant disclosure? The edits were not meant to be promotional in any way, it just struck me as slightly asymmetric with respect to what was mentioned and what was not. --Grant3b1b (talk) 22:34, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you can make an official disclosure on your user page by adding this template: {{UserboxCOI|3Blue1Brown}}
I've also added a {{Connected contributor}} template to the article's talk page to indicate this to other editors. I'll give you a pass for the first time since your edits don't seem to have any major problems from glossing over them. In the future, if you plan to make additional edits to 3Blue1Brown (or other articles you might have a close personal connection to) I'd suggest using the COI edit request system as detailed here: Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request
Hope you enjoy your stay here! Ionmars10 (talk) 23:38, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for teaching me, I appreciate that. I think I will stick around, though I clearly need to learn the ropes a bit. --Grant3b1b (talk) 23:44, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
