User warning to User:Idiot123456[edit]

Hi there, I changed your warning at User talk:Idiot123456 from vandalism2 to vandalism3 as I had left him a level 2 warning only a couple of minutes before. If you are not ok with this, feel free to revert. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 21:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Usage of templates in discussions[edit]

Hello Gnanapiti,

I just observed, in Talk:Yakshagana page, that you had used few tags in the format {{tag_name}}, and then because of their wiki-markup-rendering, you changed them to {tag_name} format. Actually, you can still write in the original format. The technique is to use {{tl}} template. Any template that is put as parameter to {{tl}} template, will not be rendered.

Eg: {{tl|Karnataka topics}} results in {{Karnataka topics}}

Hope this helps. Thanks, - KNM Talk 22:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging "Citation needed" in article Indian Cinema[edit]

Hey. Thank you for tagging the Indian Cinema article appropriately. I did not know how to do this and so had to resort to keying in those sentences with bold letterings that you saw. Hope someone can improve the referencing of this potentially awesome article. Cheers, AppleJuggler 01:34, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the citations you provided.[edit]

Nice that you included some references. That's good. Without citation to claims made in an article, the article would hold little credibility. So it's an important job that you did, by helping provide evidence for some of the factual statements made in the article. Keep up the good job, and all the best to you! AppleJuggler

'Yakshagana' in Sanskrit[edit]

Hello Gnanapiti,
I think the Sanskrit name (यक्शगन) on the Yakshagana page is wrong. Shouldn't it be यक्षगान? I wanted to change it but I thought that I should make sure first.

Thanks, Max - You were saying? 10:41, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Krishna images[edit]

Hello Gnanapiti - I had been looking for a better image to go with the Krishna in the performing arts section of the Krishna article, so when you posted your photograph into the article it seemed to be a perfect choice. It fits exactly with the text in that section. :-) I have since moved the holi image to a more relevant position. Hoping this meets your approval. Jaya Sri Krishna! Image copyright[edit]

Hi! You have uploaded a nice image of the Jog Falls: Image:Mighty Jog.jpg where you mention that the author has released all rights to the image. To validate this claim, you must forward a copy of the email from the author to permissions@wikimedia.org so that a ticket can be logged and placed on the image page. Also, releasing all rights and GFDL are not exactly the same. You can request the author to release it under GFDL, or CC-BY/CC-BY-SA and forward the mail to the above address. My nomination for W:3RR[edit]

Nice to know that you have proved what I believe , that you KNM and Sarvagnya work in cahoots, if not as sockpuppets. I welcome the 3RR. It will give me a good oportunity to point out to the Anti-Devanagiri bias with which you three work and the way all you cooperate to protect each others edits. Cheers to you too! --Deepak D'Souza 07:30, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sachin Tendulkar[edit]

Hi, I guess I was kinda frustrated and pissed after the miserable, spineless performance but hey, this IS Sachin's last World Cup and the part about so-called 'experts' concurring that he is the greatest batsmen that ever played, Wisden has a different take on the subject as the article also makes a mention of the same fact. Re:Copyright[edit]

Yes, the image qualifies as fair use and is allowed. A shot of Upendra acting (See Angelina Jolie, Bette Davis) would be better for the article IMO. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:02, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Screen captures to identify an actor/actress[edit]

Hello, Gnanapiti, screenies can only be used for critical commentary, not to identify an actor/actress. If you wish to upload a picture to identify Aishwarya Rai, please find a promotional picture of here. Policy can be found here: [1] Best regards, --Plumcouch Talk2Me 22:09, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Gnanapiti,
if we can use unfree, fair use images in the actor's box, why was this one in Sienna Guillory's article created? Lots of articles link to it and there's an entire page dedicated to it ([2]). To me, it looks, as if the entire thing was created because we cannot use unfree images in the actor's box. Best regards, --Plumcouch Talk2Me 22:41, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Gnanapiti,
I think the entire thing is very confusing, as everyone has a different opinion about it and the policy doesn't seem to be very clear on it. However, I'd prefer to use fair use images in the actor's box, because there are so many of 'em and it's so difficult to shoot a picture of, say, Shahrukh Khan. Yet, I don't know *who* to ask about the entire matter. Do you know an admin who's familiar with Wikipedia's policy for unfree pictures? Because I'd like to ask him/her: what about pictures who claim to be free, but are not part of WikiCommons? Do public domain pictures need a source, too? --Plumcouch Talk2Me 23:14, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When in doubt, consult featured articles Wikipedia:Featured articles#Media. I've gone through some of the articles and most of them have free images in the infobox. Some do not, so take a look at some of the articles there. I could not find free images online of Aishwara Rai. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:45, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gnanapiti,

I see that you have provided a redirect from Ha Ma Nayak to newly created H.M. Nayak. The end result looks fine, however, this is not the practice ideally followed. You should always Move the article to the new name. This would ensure the history transfer as well. In other words, [[3]] this would have been moved to new history, if the article was moved. Now, on the other hand, because the contents were cut and pasted in to the new article name, the entire history is gone. :)

I believe, this summarizes, what I'm trying to say. Hope it helps! - KNM Talk 00:34, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was nothing serious. So, no need to worry too much about it. In future let this not happen. That is all. Thanks. - KNM Talk 18:34, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tungabhadra River article[edit]

Gnanapiti,

I think we both are trying to get the right message in, related to the title for Shiva lingam at the bank of that river.

I feel Shiva and Lingam should be separated or Shiva should be dropped out of the sentence. Anyone who wants to do more research on lingam should start from the Lingam article so that they understand significance of both. I will let you find the appropriate sentence but I just wanted to present my opinion.

Mangalore[edit]

Sir,Mangalore is a place visited by Malayalees from the time of its origin. Also a minority of population in Mangalore are Malayalees.Malayalees use the word Mangalapuram and not Mangalore for this place. Thus writing Mangalapuram in Malayalam is relevent. If you disagree, kindly take off the name in Kannada for Kasaragod in Kasaragod page,as there it is an irrelevant script.

Speedy copyvio[edit]

Hi, you tagged Image:Anju Bobby George.jpg and Image:P.T Usha.jpg but without providing a source. Why do you think those images are a copyright violation? Garion96 (talk) 18:32, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, then speedy is not the right way, unless indeed you can link to a book or url which shows that the image is indeed a copyvio. Speedy is only for blatant 100 procent sure copyright violations. For images without a source you can tag those with {{subst:nsd}} and other images you think are likely copyvio's you can list at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. Source information for the images[edit]

Hi, you have uploaded a number of photographs used in the Yakshagana article. However none of the source information for these photos could be verified. I don't want to go on a tagging spree. I saw that link but 1000 looks like a vague number which has been written without any scientific basis and hence I removed it. I am sure Agumbe would have more population than 1000. Population figures for Agumbe are not available anywhere else unfortunately. -- Amarrg 16:08, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I dont think we can rely on the figures in agumbe.com, The area of Agumbe is mentioned as 25000 acres which works out to be 101 sq. km. (roughly 10 km X 10 km) I am pretty sure that Agumbe (even Thirthahalli) cannot be of that big size. Also the figure 1000 for population looks more like a placeholder than an actual figure. My suggestion is to remove this data since it looks odd (currently the area being shown is 25000 Sq. km. which is foolish :) ). I have however let it remain as it is (to obtain a consensus with you) but we have to find the real numbers for them soon -- Amarrg 04:33, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I apologize if I hurt your feelings. Perhaps I should have researched the issue more thoroughly. Your copyvio warnings are apt. Arun claims that you taunted him, I don't know whether this is true or not. I'll reiterate your points regarding the copyvios and references to him. Finally, I'd ask you to assume good faith regarding this user. He is extremely new, but I would say that all of his edits are made in good faith. It's true that there are some POV issues regarding his edits. However, he is very open to suggestions and is always eager to learn more. Hi Gnanapiti,

I dont know why my response to the question you had posted long back on my talk page never got recorded on your talk page. By the way, I have no relation with Ninasam but I do follow Kannada theatre once a while and keep myself updated. And Ninasam is in Shimoga, the district where I was born and hence has an emotional attachment to me -- Amarrg 07:16, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • By June15th, my first round of cpedits will be done and will be open for second round.Dineshkannambadi 19:32, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

South India[edit]

The edit has been already explained in the edit summary. There is no shortage of big cities in other 3 states. If you keep on adding all major cities in all states, then it will become a huge list which is not what we want in that box. Thanks, Gnanapiti 16:01, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Woah..dont jump on me, brother! I was just asking an innocent question. You never explained your edit anywhere. And what's with the "keep on adding" and "other three states" business? All I did was add Coimbatore in TN and Kochi in Kerala, as both these cities are bigger than Trivandrum. --Seraphiel 19:15, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's been explained here. Explanation doesn't necessarily have to come only from me, does it? Anyways, I see that you are new to Wikipedia. Perhaps I should have remembered WP:BITE. Welcome to Wiki and happy editing. Gnanapiti 19:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
