January 1[edit]

Hi,@Thewolfchild and thank you for the helpful instructions. May I suggest that we use the following picture of the French army for the "Balkans theatre" article, as it depicts them at the appropriate location and period. Just out of curiosity, what's wrong with the current photo? (Now that the caption has been corrected) And how is this one better? Also, not that I'm really for or against, but your request should really be posted to the article talk page, either way. - wolf 07:04, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I automatically went to the Commons discussion page for the photo and there was already a comment there questioning the subject of the photo, posted about a year ago without any responses, so I presumed that there would be no reaction if I raised the same question again. Sorry for not posting it on on the article page, I am aware now that it would have been more appropriate. While correcting the caption was the the primary idea, and there is nothing wrong with the photo as it is captioned now, I think that we shouldn't use it to illustrate this article because by the late 1915, when the French arrived to the Balkans theatre, they were using uniforms different in both design and colour from those in the photo. It is still good to illustrate French infantry on the western front in 1914, or even before the war. As for the photo that I suggested as replacement, it shows French soldiers at the very theatre that is the subject of the article, so it seemed appropriate. It doesn't have to be that specific one, there are more on Commons that depict soldiers in that theatre of operations. I apologise again for not doing it the proper way, I'll take more care in the future. ~~~~ Gmalcic (talk) 18:13, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
