Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Juliet Butler

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Juliet Butler, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. re: Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary - why cause edit conflicts for minor edit when an editor is editing an article & losing information because of conflict via your WB

It would be nice if you waited a few minutes before you jumped in with your AWB. As it was I was fixing the named referenced situation plus adding more information -- information lost in the edit conflict. If you look at the edit history, it does not make sense that you would interfer with productive editing. I will drop the article so you can feel free to play with it. Guess the lesson here for me is to save as quickly every minor change and never try to combine minor edits into one. Well, it will rack up my edit count.

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

re: humourous vs humorous

You recently reverted a change to the spelling of this word on Military slang. I've already left a note on the other user's page but I'll ask you also please not to randomly change spellings from American English to British English and back. Both are correct and either may be appropriate depending on the context. The Manual of Style has more on which spelling is appropriate when. If you're going to revert an inappropriate "correction" of this type, please cite the appropriate MOS page, not an incomplete wiktionary page. Thanks. Rossami (talk) 13:52, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Also, you have changed a significant number of wikilinks simply by converting underscores to spaces: example. This is also something to be avoided under WP:AWB#Rules of use. I edit hundreds of highway articles, all of which use links to images containing underscores in the names. All those type of edits do is clog up history lists and watchlists, so please turn that setting off as well. Sswonk (talk) 23:51, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

European Association of Libraries and Information Services on Addictions

Thanks a lot for your typo fixing. I learned a lot. I looked at your user page : we have a lot of common points. I am a French contributor (LGTB films), but a beginner in English pages. I am also found of (French) typography. And I worked about 15 years in international networks on substance abuse. That's why I started with the page on Elisad. But a lot of pages have to be done in this sector, which will link to each others. Regarding the Elisad page, you also added an orphan tab. There are now 3 links to it in Wikipedia, and other new pages will soon link to it also. So, can we delete this tab ? Is is still an orphan page? STiki: A new version and a thank you!

Greetings geeoharee. As the developer of the STiki anti-vandal tool, I would like to thank you for recent and non-trivial use of my software. Whether you just tried out the tool briefly or have been a long-term participant, I appreciate your efforts (as I am sure does the entire Wikipedia community)!

I write to inform you of a new version of the software (link goes to list of new features). This version addresses multiple long-term issues that I am happy to put behind us. Try it out! Provide some feedback!

The STiki project is also always seeking collaborators. In particular, we are seeking non-technical colleagues. Hi Geeoharee: Sorry to trouble you, but I could not help but notice your expression of affection for TOS on the Wikipedians who like Star Trek: The Original Series page, and so I would be curious of your thoughts on the notability of a Star Trek author for whom I just created a Wikipedia article -- which may be promptly destined for the trash pile. As a newcomer here at Wikipedia, my first article attempt was indeed recommended for deletion within hours of its creation by a senior user named JzG who seems to me to be overly hostile and dismissive of Star Trek, calling it fancruft (= trivial, obscure, of importance to just a tiny group of fanatics) . Since you are a Trek fan, if it is also your good faith opinion that my subject is in no way deserving of an article on this site; and you could let me know, I would feel much more comfortable with the justice of the pending deletion action.
