If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Crypto Leaks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. I'm sorry I made an edit on the page to add significance and I'm worried i may have accidentally deleted the speedy deletetion item? I'm not sure how. I apoogize if that's the case though. Or is that something that happens when you make an edit there? FrostFlower984 (talk) 15:24, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, it was an administrator that deleted the speedy deletion template, declining to perform the deletion. However... 2406:3003:2077:1E60:EDE9:C688:2C0C:D5F5 (talk) 10:45, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't understand what you changed or why the changes as such are deleted rather than left in the record. The deletion log doesn't make it clear what was actually deleted. I thought everything was properly cited here FrostFlower984 (talk) 06:23, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
From my recollection almost entire sentences were copied directly from the New York Times article, along with some close paraphrasing. That is a copyright violation; it does not matter if the source was cited or credited, as NYT hold copyright to that content and we do not have permission to use it.
Due to legal considerations, the removal procedure involves expunging the history after the offending material has been removed. Unfortunately that means we're no longer able to see the offending content; I suppose that does make it harder to understand what you did wrong, but let me try to help give some idea.
The article was flagged for attention by an automated process, so I ran it through the copyvio detection tool. You can see in the current version that it only marks a handful of phrases as identical copies, including a couple of direct quotes. By contrast, the in the deleted version, there was a large chunk of red highlights: almost all of the second paragraph was highlighted, as well as a smaller portion in the beginning of the third para.
In general, removal of copyrighted content usually means outright deletion of the offending text, but in this case I performed a rewrite, and I did make an effort to preserve the same key points you'd originally included. I drew on the cointelegraph source as well to reduce the reliance on NYT, and expanded a bit for clarity. Please feel free to check and make adjustments.
Also, thanks for catching the missing word "to" — I'd swear I had already fixed that, so I must have accidentally pasted an older draft when submitting.

Oh what an interesting tool.
Got it, Thanks for the help and for rewriting rather than deleting! I thought with citations it was ok. I'll keep that in mind about the copyright issues and citations! FrostFlower984 (talk) 08:38, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
