Welcome[edit]

Hello, Finch2017 and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students. Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, if your class doesn't already have one.

Go through our online training for students.

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Helpme}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and should be treated accordingly.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! Chris Troutman (talk) 03:53, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GA nominations[edit]

Hi Finch,

Thanks for your submission to GAN; I really appreciate the time you've taken to improve this one.

I notice we've gotten several psychology submissions lately that seem to be part of the same course, but it's not clear what course these are originating from. Is this course working with the Wikipedia:Education program, or has it come here independently?

Per WP:ASSIGN, classes are strongly discouraged from submitting articles to GA as a group, since we have limited resources for review and since these are generally of lower quality than those by experienced editors. (You don't have to be a genius to write a GA or anything--far from it!--but it helps to have experience with Wikipedia's various policies.) This policy was designed with undergraduates in mind, though, and I think editors at the GA project might be more agreeable to graduate-level work as long as your professor and/or a Wikipedia online ambassador are also taking a look. Would you be willing to forward on a request for your professor to comment at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations#Psychology class nominations about the plan for these submissions?

Your professor is presumably already aware of this, but also keep in mind that GA submissions take an average of 1-3 months to receive a review, so it's unlikely many of these will receive review before the winter break of most US colleges. Hopefully that won't be an issue. (We wish it were faster; we're just limited in our number of active volunteers.)

Thanks again for submitting, and for passing on the above to your instructor. Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving, Khazar2 (talk) 23:51, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Khazar2: Yes, these recent psychology nominations are for Graduate ProSem in Social Psychology, for which I am campus ambassador. Professor Karney specified in the syllabus for the students to submit their articles to DYK and GAN for extra points. (It is not a mandatory step, per se.) I know this sort of thing creates confusion amongst Wikipedians although I had hoped it wouldn't come to this. I'll reach out to the professor to address this issue. Your GA nomination of Food choice[edit]

The article Food choice you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Food choice for things which need to be addressed.
