Encyc. Brit, update of Afghanistan article

• They did not include it [ethnic data from the Encyclopedia Britannica 2006 World Data sheet] in the 2008 version so they must have thought there was something wrong it. Farsiwan22 (talk) 01:46, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Not necessarily. There are plenty of reasons for not updating one piece of data in the est. 2002-2003 version of the Afghanistan article that currently (Jan. 2008) appears in the Encyclopedia Britannica. They probably want to do the whole thing as a single update and not piecemeal. --Bejnar (talk) 15:03, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

On 20 January 2008, Anoshirawan said: "I have provided a reliable source for sarban's ethnicity." Anoshirawan's edit indicated that Sarban was an ethnic Tajik based upon "Professor Enayatullah Shahrani (Dean of the Fine Arts Faculty of Kabul University) (1999). Bazmeh Ghazal. Unfortunately, that is not an adequate citation for verifiability. Wikipedia policy says: "Editors should provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is challenged or is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed." Here, ethnicity has been challenged. Wikipedia:Verifiability - Non-English sources goes on to say, "Because this is the English Wikipedia, for the convenience of our readers, English-language sources should be used in preference to foreign-language sources, assuming the availability of an English-language source of equal quality, so that readers can easily verify that the source material has been used correctly." and provides detailed instructions about foriegn language material. In addition, Wikipedia provides a guide as to what information will help readers and other editors find the information. See Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners.
