Ask

Hi. I am Jivesh. My friend told me you have access to Billboard. Could you please check if "Party (song)" bubbled under the Hot 100 at number 25 for the week ending October 15, 2011? Please. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 10:10, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

No, I do not see it at all. #25 on that chart this week is "Tonight" by Seether. - eo (talk) 12:10, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Is it at number 11 or number 4? ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 06:45, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah yes, it is #4 this week: (11 last week, 25 two weeks ago) — Party, Beyonce Featuring Andre 3000 - eo (talk) 15:48, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, thank you, thank you infinitely. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 18:24, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Hip-hop soul

I remember going round and round with some editor that used to mark everything under the sun as "hip-hop soul". I've encountered User:MariaJaydHicky, who has the same tendency. Can you remember the name of the other editor so I can cross-reference things?—Kww(talk) 17:26, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Ouch, no sorry, I don't recall anyone who was doing that. - eo (talk) 17:45, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

I've let myself become involved. Take a look at The Neptunes discography and User talk:MikaSan and see what you can do.—Kww(talk) 11:18, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Doesn't seem to be getting the point.—Kww(talk) 19:56, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Heya, could you take a look at the above article? There's a difference of opinion that needs an independant view. Thanks. Mister sparky (talk) 19:52, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

thanks for the reply. i'm a bit confused actually, as the user seems to be quite an experienced editor but seems obsessed with filling the tables with gaps and line breaks then reverting my edits saying its against policy... so i'm boggled. Mister sparky (talk) 16:31, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Hello

Hello Ericorbit, My friend Jivesh boodhun said you are a very friendly and nice. You could do a favor for me? I know you have been Login in Billboard.biz. I wanted to know the position of the DVD "The Ultimate Performance" by Beyoncé in the U.S. Top Music Videos chart, look at the link to me HERE. What position? Thanks. Silencio faz bem (talk) 04:13, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

This week it is #38, last week it was #24, with 3 weeks on the chart. Unfortunately this chart does not have a "peak position" column, so I don't know where it was two weeks ago. - eo (talk) 15:53, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

One Day (LMFAO song)

Firstly, have you seen WP:SONGCOVER? At long last we have a policy! Secondly the above article was deleted per AfD, I added a g4, which was removed by a single edit IP. Now how should it proceed? Is it a seond AfD nomination or something quicker? Great if you could deal with it? Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 22:25, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

But the song did peak on the UK Singles Chart. So why shouldn't it be notable? Ian Streeter (talk) 12:06, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Howdy, sorry I didn't get to this in time. I'd have suggested merging or deleting this. How about an article for every human being who has ever sung "Happy Birthday"? - eo (talk) 10:59, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Ericorbit. This user is making unconstructive edits to Sugababes discography by removing well-sourced information. They have a long history of doing this, even on other Wikipedia articles. You posted an "only warning" message to their talk page because of the issue, although they have vandalized the article numerous times after this. Is it time for a block? Till I Go Home (talk) 02:07, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

well, the last warning was way back in April. I've semi-protected Sugababes and will leave another warning. - eo (talk) 13:16, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
The last warning may have been back in April but that doesn't mean the last time they vandalized was in April. Thank you for the semi-protection. Till I Go Home (talk) 09:50, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello

I created List of number-one Billboard Alternative Albums of 2011 yesterday and it is a bit of an orphan; do you have any suggestions of where to put more links to it? NYSMtalk page 23:07, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Hmm I would suggest putting it as a "see also" on the Alternative Songs #1 lists, and definitely on the Billboard charts template. Are you going to continue with prior years? - eo (talk) 12:12, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm going to try and work on prior years after the holidays, but I'm definitely going to make 2012 next week. Do you know how far this chart goes back? "Alternative Albums" is just a redirect. NYSMtalk page 13:59, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
I have no friggin clue. Just do Billboard lookups on Jan 1 of each year til it gives an error then narrow it down? - eo (talk) 14:11, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Looks like the first chart was July 28, 2007: http://www.billboard.com/column/chartbeat#/charts/alternative-albums?chartDate=2007-07-28 - eo (talk) 15:58, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for looking that up! I'm kinda glad it's a relatively new chart, if it dated back to like 1990 that would be a pain in the rear to make all those lists. NYSMtalk page 20:56, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello

Hi Ericorbit. It's Tomica here. User:JohnfromPickney pointed you as a potential help for me. I work on "Unfaithful" and I will probably nominate it for GA. However, there is a problem with the Canadian chart. The song is released in 2006, prior the existence of Canadian Hot 100, meaning it has charted on the Canadian Singles Chart, I can't find reliable source. I found this, but there is no Canadian Singles Chart for "Unfaithful". You think you can find a source for this? Thanks — Tomica1111Question Existing? 10:28, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

He's not grasping how to edit properly and he makes no effort to communicate. He's now using forums as sources Example 1, example 2. WP:COMPETENCE is an issue as of now and a block should have happened long ago. Please look into it. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 00:09, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. Just like to inform you that Madonna's new album "M.D.N.A." does have a period after the 'A' as indicated by all sources including Madonna's official website http://www.madonna.com/news/title/madonna-reveals-new-album-title. So I will change the title accordingly. Thanks :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Everything Is Beautiful (talkcontribs) 00:22, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

No worries... I had originally set up the red links with the final period, but then when the article was created it did not have it, so I figured someone knew something I didn't. Glad it's worked out. - eo (talk) 12:27, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

You tagged this as WP:CSD#A9, but that does not apply because the artist has an article. It does not meet the notability requirements for a stand-alone song article, so in a case like that you can try PROD or AfD, but probably the best thing to do, as prescribed by WP:NSONGS is to redirect it to the album or artist article. You can also point the author to WP:NSONGS. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:13, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Quicksand

I've declined your speedy request as there is an article on the band - and has been since 2003, which makes it one of the oldest I've seen. As to the notability of the song in question, I make no comment except to suggest prod followed by AfD.... Peridon (talk) 15:37, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Indef block needed

User talk:Harry-potter-mania you have blocked before for bad editing. He has no concept of how to edit, they make no form of communication, every few edits they add massive WP:OR and unreliable sourcing to articles. There is WP:COMPETENCE lacking and his edits, when I see them, always get reverted for a violation of one rule or another. I think it's time for a permanent block per COMPETENCE and WP:ICANTHEARYOU for the no communication. He's been warned more times than I care to count and has had enough chances. MSU Interview

Dear Ericorbit,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 18:22, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Dear Ericorbit, I just wanted to let you know that an AfD, in which you participated in recently has been reopened. Please express your opinion again in the current AfD. Thank you. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 00:52, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

The article 11.30 (Dirtiest Trick in Town) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable song, fails WP:NSONG

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Billboard 200 Changes

Hello Ericorbit - As you may have noticed, a couple of editors are trying to make changes to the "Additional milestones" section of Billboard 200 unilaterally and without discussion. Now, much of that section is problematic because it is unsourced to start with - but we have generally excluded compilation albums and soundtracks from the various lists. I do not have any vested interest in this, but I do not like the non-collaborative nature of the edits. I will start a section on the 200 Talk page and would appreciate any input that you might have. regards, Sensei48 (talk) 15:44, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

That's fine with me and I'll contribute. I've been removing Eminem from that list for years now; people keep including him because of the 8 Mile soundtrack. - eo (talk) 15:49, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on My Kind of Love (Emeli Sandé song), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi, can you explain me why you keep saying Christina Aguilera was the last artist that did it? · Mcdonalds (talk · cont), at 17:51, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Because Beyonce charted with songs before "Crazy In Love" that did not reach #1. Aguilera's first two chart entries hit #1, as did Gaga's, which is what the item states. - eo (talk) 17:54, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Ban

User talk:Bachmannlover, which you have warned previously, is continually adding unreliable sourcing, synth, and original research to articles (particularly Kesha's second album and it's time for a block. He makes no effort to communicate and despite multiple final warnings to stop adding unreliable sources he continues to do so. I'm tired of reverting him. Time for a block, please. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 17:43, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Billboard is crediting the song "Diamonds" to both Alpert and Jackson on their top hits page dated the week of June 20, 1987 here. Should it be added? — Gabe 19 (talk contribs) 07:53, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Hmmm, okay. It's irritating when they do this retroactive re-labeling of songs. I know for sure it charted on the Hot 100 as Alpert-only. I looked thru Google Books but unfortunately there is a huge gap of missing issues in the mid-80s. Will try to locate an alternative to double-check what they did on the R&B chart when it was current. - eo (talk) 18:47, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Long Train Runnin 1993.jpg

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

WikiProject Transhumanism

Hi, I see you define yourself as a transhumanist. I've been working a bit on Wikipedia:WikiProject Transhumanism although it still needs a lot of work. Could you have a look at it and maybe give me some pointers? I created a little userbox to promote the wikiproject, in case you're interested. You're very welcome to subscribe as a participant, expand the project and of course improve it's articles. --Pereant antiburchius (talk) 11:50, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Sinead Lion Cobra Original.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Sinead Lion Cobra Original.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 17:24, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

He's adding unreliable sources and whatever he wants to an article (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kesha%27s_second_album&diff=prev&oldid=496290146). You issued your final warning previously, can you block now? Thanks. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 19:14, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Nomination For Deletion

Please note that user space (including sandboxes) should not be used as a webhost for personal infomation, per WP:UP#NOT. Your page User:Querido0328/sandbox contains information that is obviously not being used to improve any already-existing articles. The content of a deleted article (Billboard 2012) should not be copied to your sandbox just so that you can keep it. Any non-encyclopedia content will need to be removed or it will be nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. Thanks. - eo (talk) 14:14, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I read this and what the hell? Okay, this webpage does not contain any personal information. I am making my own charts. And this is where I gather and post the data on my Billboard 2012. Yes, it contains information that is not being used to improve any articles whatsoever. The deleted (Billboard 2012) article is the same with my sandbox. Because I believed that I can make any article I want. Any article that is clean and understandable. I made the article myself. But when you deleted it, I spent hours trying to make it to my sandbox again. Don't you see? I want to make my own article. But you guys will just keep deleting it. So I made it to my sandbox. Please don't delete my sandbox. It means a whole lot to me. If an article means that a lot of people should know about it, I already shared this to my friends and family. I had rough times with this. And also good times. So again, please don't delete this. That's why it's a sandbox, I can do anything with it. Isn't it a free page for the user? I even read that it's like a testing ground. So again, don't delete it. Even if it doesn't contain encyclopedia content. Don't. Thank you for reading and have a nice day. :) Querido0328 (talk) 11:26, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Please click the link I left on your Talk Page which will take you to the policy on what should not be in your User space. "Making your own charts" and hosting them in Wikipedia does not help the project in any way. You'll need to move this to your own personal site on the internet. - eo (talk) 14:51, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
