Yes, someone does read these pages. See you around :) --IByte 5 July 2005 23:12 (UTC)

Eric,

I started editing on Wikipedia earlier this week. I am eager to get some feedback, but haven't gotten any yet. One piece of advice though. I recommend against using the term "nazi," even lowercase and modified as you have it. I think that you will find maven to be more appropriate and far less likely to result in flames. I would invite you to look at my contributions, but I am not sure how to link to that listing. My biggest effort so far has been on copy-editing and neutralizing the POV of McDonald's Coffee Case. --Mddake 04:06, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

(See Special:Contributions/Mddake.) --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:48, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

My pleasure. You've taken on a big job there (a job for life?)... --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:48, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

less intrusive

your work on such a list of #1 artists is admireable but do you really have to add it back to all artist pages in such an, in my opinion , intrusive way? some of the artists have little info and now they get a whole new see also section and two links that are the same for every artist. doing it via a category would be better, the current way is taking it too far. Boneyard 10:07, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

  • The reason I did it as a list and not as category is because lists give the option to be updated and modified... as the list contains total count of number ones, I (or anyone else) would not be able to change the counts if it was in category form. Also, the nature of the artists (particularly the dance artists) leads to a bunch of redirects because of pseudonyms and aliases, so in these cases a list works better. As far as it being "intrusive," that is not how I perceived it. If anything, I felt it was good to add as much info as I could to the artists' pages, even if it was a "see also" header (and before doing so I did look to see that there are other "lists" that show up in "see also" sections on multiple pages, such as "list of best-selling artists"). Not at whole lot is known about a bunch of the artists, but as this is a continuing project I'm working on, I do plan to expand many of the articles as I do more research into their subjects. Hope that kinda helps to explain where I was coming from. eo 12:20, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

Dance Music Artists

I want to say thanks for some of the corrections to Da Mob. I'm already going through Discogs for more corrections on other acts I added to the list. User:Robert Moore 17:03 August 16, 2005

Just to say thanks for all the dance music work - it's very helpful ! WMMartin 12:38, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

Discography tables

It's a common mistake (on Wikipedia) to wikify every word. You don't need to wikify every entry within a table or list if it has already been wikified in an earlier section. For example, the table for James Bond films doesn't wikify each and every time Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan appears. Just wikify the first entry, and it's already sufficient. --Madchester 18:05, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I saw your edit summary comment after making an edit on the Coldplay page, and I was just sharing some information, cuz you seemed to be asking a question there. :) Cheers. --Madchester 18:27, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

Tables

I agree, the wikifying of albums on the Singles Tables is unnecessary and should be removed alltogether. As for the centering, I plan on formatting all tables to look like The White Stripes' table. I like that look. As for the # symbol, it doesn't look sloppy. The bare numbers look sloppy. Xinger 18:56, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

  • Hi. What do you mean update the template to look like the Siouxsie one? Xinger 14:41, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
    • OK, I understand now. Yes, I sure will. Xinger 14:56, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

re: kudos.

Thanks. I don't begrudge anyone's participation in anything, but there has to be consistency and professionalism involved when contributing to an encyclopedia. I know things like pop music and hip-hop attract lots of young people who sometimes don't really want to have to follow rules like the ones we have here, or write about music in a professional tone, but it is what needs to be done. It's funny; most of these editors are accusing me of not liking pop music (if I didn't care about trying ot make sure musicians are covered with some standard of quality, I'd have left the whole thing alone) or of being jealous of the "amount of pop music coverage" (poorly written articles are nothing to be jealous of). But, again, thanks; it's good to hear that I actually am doing the right thing. --FuriousFreddy 00:51, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

You can help by providing comments at Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Pop music issues. And I agree with your rationale, although such users should be informed that WikiCities is also free and easy-to-use (several people have suggested porting these articles to a Mariah Carey/pop music fan Wiki over there, and cleaning up the entries in Wikipedia--there hasn't been a receptive response from the editors in question, although such a move would allow them more freedom). --FuriousFreddy 02:12, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

eo, you wrote: I won't even touch those articles with a ten foot pole. If there's anything I can do to help make things better, let me know. Yes! Get pole-dancing already. Sorry, I mean get out your pole (preferably somewhat shorter than ten feet), and touch, touch, touch. You can revise, or you can argue for revision. Some of the arguments are on refreshingly clear-cut issues: here's an example. -- Hoary 07:52, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi. On a more serious note, I'd like to ask you to take it easy with User:Winnermario. That user is both very young and has recently been making some small steps towards working well with other editors. I suspect that you're not going to get any good results from the current line of conversation, and I'd suggest that it probably isn't worth getting that user further riled up. Thanks for thinking about it. Jkelly 20:36, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Will do - I'll keep it in mind, however I can't promise I'll just let her off the hook if she exclaims something completely unfounded or insults me personally. I'm trying to counter her exclamations with questions that would (hopefully) just make her step back and think for a moment... I don't think she would accept other people's comments as gospel if we were to issue them to her in the manner she gives them to us. I'll cool it for a bit and see how the conversation goes. -- eo 20:48, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
Good luck countering. I'll be ready for anything.
And User:Jkelly, age has nothing to do with this. I know someone who is forty-years-old and is a complete asshole. Sort of like yourself, just note that I'm unsure of your age.
Why is it that the homosexuals complain the most? --Winnermario 00:41, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Your comments are offensive, although I am not surpised that it comes from you. Don't worry, I'll keep it proudly displayed on my talk page for all to see how very, very cool you are. In the short amount of time I've had interaction with you, you've certainly shown how mature you are. Great job. Keep yelling, stamping your feet and holding your breath, little girl. Good luck with that English degree, isn't that just a half-step above "undeclared" anyway? -- eo 00:50, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
My comments are offensive? That was the point. I'm glad to see you caught them. I will continue to yell and stamp my feet. Whatever attitude I have to use to get my point across will be the attitude I exhibit. You will lose. And thanks for wishing me luck with my degree. Seeing as how I'm going to achieve much more than you're even worth, I'll take that as a compliment from you. Adios. --Winnermario 00:58, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
My dear, you have no idea what I am worth, nor what I have achieved. Your attitude is that of a spoit adolescent girl. If that's what you feel you need to do to get your way in life, then good luck with that. You're really just quite pathetic and sad. -- eo 01:03, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
I'm about as adolescent as you are mature. And you're really just quite foolish and gay. --Winnermario 01:09, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Definitely gay, but not foolish. -- eo 01:12, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Definitely gay. Definitely foolish. Now provide me a reason for not reasoning with my statement on the discussion page. --Winnermario 01:14, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Don't come to my Talk page and insult me and then demand I address your childish ramblings. I've made very clear suggestions on that discussion page and I've also asked you several questions there about your comments - all of which you ignored. I am not going to address any of those issues here, but nice try on the deflection. You can continue the conversation on the proper page where all readers can view your asinine behavior. If you're just going to come here and attempt to argue with me I'll just consider any further edits you make to this page to be vandalism. -- eo 01:23, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
I will display the vandalism comment on my talk page, because it makes you look as stupid and gay as you are. --Winnermario 01:26, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Winn - honey - ya know I'd love to hang out and chitchat and play Barbies with you for longer, but - no offense, it's Friday night and I have much better things to be doing than going back and forth with a rude, vile, homophobic, immature, ugly cunt like yourself. I've got lots of friends and an great social life and I'm going to head out to the clubs to have some cocktails, mingle with lots of pretty people and then get laid. Don't worry, in about ten years you'll be old enough to drink legally so you'll know what it's like someday... but I wouldn't hold your breath on the getting laid part. Have a nice life. -- eo 01:33, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Oh, and P.S.: Anyone who looks at your talk page history can see that I did not add all of this conversation - you did it in a cut & paste job from here. Don't forget to copy this sentence over too. -- eo 01:37, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi. It looks like things have gotten quite out of hand. I'm sorry that it's descended into name-calling, and I am glad to hear that you're taking a break for an evening out. Jkelly 01:53, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

I am of legal drinking age. Again, think before you speak. I hope you used protection. --Winnermario 13:54, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Don't have any info other than what's on the main page right now. It's cool to add the 2001 - 2005 information. Thanks. --FuriousFreddy 19:31, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Don't worry about the extra column. It should probably go anyways. --FuriousFreddy 20:46, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

The Bucketheads

You redirected The Bucketheads to Masters at Work, but didn't provide any explanation, and there isn't any other reference to them on the page. Can you please stick something about this on the Masters at Work page? Thanks.

Fourohfour 13:50, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

My God, man.

I told myself I'd never edit again...but your work on the R&B lists inspired me to give in and give the old Wikipedia another shot. Here is a much deserved barnstar.

For adding the lists of number one dance & R&B hits to the Wikipedia, I, FuriousFreddy, hereby award you, e.o., with this Working Man's Barnstar. Wonderful work.

Hello

Hello, Ericorbit (should I call you "eo"?). I would like to take the time to apologize for the verbal abuse User:Winnermario inflicted upon you last Friday evening. She had broken down to the point of exhaustion and subsequently exited Wikipedia permanently. Although I do not completely agree with the insults you fired at her, Winnermario's behaviour was just as harsh, if not more unfavourable. So as her successor—I find it awkward to say that—I would like to apologize on her behalf. Thank you and I hope we can establish a more pleasant relationship. --Hollow Wilerding 23:00, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Hold off on the R&B chart pages for a second.

I sent an email to Billboard months ago, asking about the legality of Wikipeida using their charts, and apparently we can't do it without a licsense. I don't know what this is gonna mean for the music projects, but we'll see what happens. --FuriousFreddy 02:50, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, they contacted me directly, albeit some time after I originally wrote them. The email wasn't written in a threatening way; it was a very cordial message. I'm posting (or at least trying to post) the email to the Wikipedia mail list to discuss it there before turning the issue into a big deal on the Wikipedia itself. --FuriousFreddy 13:57, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

re: Hot 100

I'd suggest keeping it in your user space until it's about 60% or so complete, and then going for the Hot 100/temp subpage. --FuriousFreddy 15:00, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Apology

I need to apologize for editing your profile page when I did not realize that the wikilink was already correct — it was a matter of misjudgement. Sorry. —Hollow Wilerding 20:43, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

No problem. -- eo 20:48, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Hot 100

I received your message, and I appreciate your idea, but I do think the current edition of the Billboard Hot 100 page, along with its listing of notable records, is adequate. If you truly insist on changing the format of the page so drastically, I strongly suggest you make another page called "Hot 100 trivia" or "Notable Hot 100 records" to include the information you would like to eliminate. Sebastian Prospero 02:11, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Well, then, if you've included a link to it in the main Hot 100 page, I guess it would be all right, as long as the current Hot 100 single is listed in the main page and updated each Wednesday. Sebastian Prospero 02:34, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

One user thought it would be funny to call you a "hateful homophobe". See the wikilink in the above header. They need to have their editing powers suspended for a certain amount of time, as it appears as thought they're crossing a boundary. —Hollow Wilerding

  • Thanks for pointing it out, but the user is actually referring to Winnermario, and lamenting the fact that a "hateful homophobe" has an article she worked on promoted to FA status. That said, the article itself and WM are none of my concern and I haven't given them a moment's thought since we had our argument a few weeks ago. Not even a blip on my radar. In fact I didn't even realize she left Wikipedia until a week later. But I appreciate the heads-up. -- eo 17:58, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

re: chart figures on Throwing Muses article

Do you know the source is for the figures listed in the table in the Throwing Muses article I've been helping edit the past year? I noticed last night (prior to your addition) that someone had a while ago put up two other songs in the table and had listed several figures before they decided on one eventually, without showing any source for the info in the reference citations. Where may I check the figures shown in the table? Emerman 14:44, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Never mind, I found the answer online! Sorry for the confusion. Emerman 15:00, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply at my page. I put the full Billboard citation into the article references; both of you have your info correct. Thanks again for having added it.Emerman 15:20, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi. What's your source for the real name of Lil Louis? There are bios floating around that say his name is Louis Jordan.[1] We're wondering about it over on Discogs.[2] Thanks for any info you can provide. — mjb 23:35, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I suppose we will see by Thursday. It will definitely be number-one on the Canadian dance chart, which it ascended even quicker on than the Billboard dance chart (imagine a forty-five to nineteen jump!). —Eternal Equinox | talk 20:20, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Prince

EO, I agree with you about the idiot adding the Prince "trivia".

As far as numerology and repeating themes in Prince's music, there is some significance to it, and perhaps it can be a separate section of this article or even a new article. I don't know if it would stop this bonehead, but who knows. {MistaTee 13:53, 5 April 2006 (UTC)}

Hello Ericorbit. I would like to add the following information to the Official sites subsection of the External links section in the Prince article:

I think it is ok if I do this. What do you think? Waiting for your response. Thanks!

TFD Userbox message

You stated in the vote over at WP:TFD that "There actually was an antireligious one that I liked much better, but it was deleted so I switched to this one." I have a subst'd copy of the one you are referring to (I think). If you want to grab the code, it's on my userpage, but you'll have to go to edit, because I have it currently hidden with noinclude tags at the very bottom of the page.--Fuhghettaboutit 04:51, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Nope:-) I'm referring to the same one--the one that says "This user believes the world would be a better, safer and more peaceful place without religion." You can't see it on my userpage because I have it hidden. If you are in edit mode and you place <!---text you want hidden--></noinclude> it won't show up on your page but you can keep it on your page hidden waiting for future use. If you go my userpage and click on edit this page and scroll to the very bottom you'll see it. Actually, why am I futzing around, with explaining how to get it, here it is:
I think the parameters got messed up so it's not the same width as the original.--Fuhghettaboutit 12:35, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
As far as I know there is no prohibition on having a subst'd version of a deprecated userbox on your userpage. The reason I have it hidden right now is because I haven't fixed the markup so that it it the same size and formatted properly so that it will sit with my other userboxes correctly. I'll pass you a better version when (if) I can fix it. It really pissed me off when it just disappeared from my userpage one day (speedied). I found this one on a mirror site of someone's userpage after many google searches. --Fuhghettaboutit 13:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Okay, here it is exactly as it was before being speedied:
