Silav[edit]

Hi, I noticed you edit Kurdistan related articles. I have several scholarly and western articles on Kurdistan history in particular. I was wondering if you are interested in reading them and it might help your edits. Feel free to activate your e-mail(see the toolbox on the left) and then e-mail me. I think these articles can help in writing better articles. Thank you.--Nepaheshgar (talk) 22:57, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ellipi, sorry for my edit on Hazza (Kurdistan). You're completely right, I misunderstood the wording of the article. I'm happy you fixed it in way which can't no longer been misunderstood. --Ilyacadiz (talk) 17:51, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

iraqi turkmen[edit]

the sources are not only Turkish, so I have undone your "western/turkish" thing. peace --Bunifa88 (talk) 20:39, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

please be objective, you don't have the opposite proof either. One of the sources is the official site of UNPO, so they're quite reliable, and it is NOT for encylopedic to "nationalize" sources. Besides, do not undo my contribution, as you also removing other changes than the number of population, like spelling errors etc.--Bunifa88 (talk) 21:28, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Still, it is not for us to decide the nationality. My sources are quite realiable I think. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bunifa88 (talkcontribs) 21:32, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My only concern is that you label the sources Western if the number is low, and Turkish if the number is high. This is obviously NOT impartial. Go ahead and ask the admins. --Bunifa88 (talk) 01:23, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are a lot of sources which explicitly say that Turkish estimates that put population of Iraqi Turkoman at millions are exaggeration and they are no more than 2% percent of the Iraqi population. Ellipi (talk) 09:00, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I don’t think there is any need for you to delete my contributions... especially since your reference is still there. We are a community here at wikipedia. Lets help each other and reach compromises rather than getting into childish edit wars. I think its very unfair to say that a 'western' source is reliable and that anything which is non-western must be incorrect. Don’t you think? Turco85 (Talk) 16:49, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The western sources are the view of mainstream scholars and have much more weight than nationalist claims which often have no base. Ellipi (talk) 17:13, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Have to disagree with you. I will give you an example for this. The Greeks article states 15,000 Greeks in Turkey- they are using a Turkish source even though western sources all state 5,000 Greeks live in Turkey. So it seems as though people only use Turkish sources when it suits them. I am for you keeping your sources... but it does not mean we should delete my references. I say leave all figures so that this conflict can finally end :D Turco85 (Talk) 17:48, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea what is going on regarding Greeks' figures. But It is a proven fact that the number claimed by Turkish nationalists for Turkmens in Iraq is wrong and according to wikipedia policy should not be given undue weight. Moreover, I have not deleted the Turkish nationalist claims that there are billions of Turkomans in Iraq, but just removed it from infobox where only mainstream facts should be reflected. Yet, if you still insist to add it to the infobox, no matter, just make it clear that it is only a Turkish nationalistic nonsense and mainstream scholars see it simply as a desperate lie. Ellipi (talk) 17:56, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Turkish ethnicity[edit]

Hello Ellipi. For now I will consider your edits in good faith as you are a relatively new user to Wikipedia. I advice you to discuss all matters in the discussion page in order for us to come to a solution as a wiki community. I hope that your edits are not based on nationalism and for now will be acting in good faith, however if you continue to act in this way (especially whilst contradicting facts with references) then I may have to report you. Thetruthonly (talk) 21:44, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will be very glad if you report this dispute to admins. Please be kind and do it now. Ellipi (talk) 22:15, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for finally adding references. Ellipi you have to understand that we can not state something without citations- I don’t want to be harsh towards you but we can not just state figures out of fine air. I hope you understand this. However, I am pretty sure that your reference is about Turkmen people rather than Iraqi Turkmen- I hope your familiar with the difference as many wiki users often confuse the two. For now I will leave your figures as well but please use the correct citation format when adding references. If you are not sure which one is appropriate, please see WP:CITE.
I am sure you can now see my objection towards the template being deleted. As it needs much attention, and therefore the rest of the Turkish people article would be neglected due to this subject. If you still find the need for mediation then let me know. Thetruthonly (talk) 23:02, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is clear that Turkmens of Iraq are actually neither Turks nor Turkmens, but Azerbaijanis. But They've been historically called Turkmens, and that's why they have been mentioned in that certain source. Moreover, this dispute about tiny minorities of Tukmens in Syria and Iraq needs more attention by admins, for the exaggerated numbers should be removed from the templates, and must only be discussed in the article under Demographics/population section and just as oponion of some Iraqi Turkmens. Ellipi (talk) 13:20, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for your recent contribution! However I have just removed your references and added [citation needed] because the references you gave are clearly are about the Turkmen people as your references state that there is 500,000 Turkmen in Afghanistan... this obviously means all the other countries listed in your reference is about the Turkmen rather than Syrian Turks or Iraqi Turks who descend from the Seljuk’s and the Ottomans. Please make sure that your references on this topic specifically says Iraqi Turks or Syrian Turks because they differ from the Turkmen immensly. Happy wiki editing :D Turco85 (talk) 15:30, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I would have to disagree that they are Azeri's (see also Azerbaijani people)... Maybe your confusing yourself because of their large population in Iran? Anyway loool, leaving that aside we still have to remember that it is about the Turkish peoples population (not that Azeris or Turkmen's) and therefore it is best (in my opinion) to use Iraqi Turks or Syrian Turks sources in order to avoid confusion. I myself have grandparents from Iraq and they have always considered themselves Turkish. Hence the reason why the Iraqi Turkmen flag is the same as the Republic of Turkey but with a blue background. Have a look at these references as well if you wish: [1], [2], [3]
Also I am actually going to remove Syria from the template completely until we can find a solid figure... Feel free to message me if you have any concerns or if you think you can help! Happy editing! :D FYI I am going to add a heading to your message on my user page :D. Turco85 (talk) 18:57, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

term[edit]

Let's agree upon Iraqi Turkmen term. Like Britannica. --Bunifa88 (talk) 19:29, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know!! That's why the article is named Iraqi Turkmen. But they are Iraqi Turks, so that should be mentioned. Enough, already.

Okay, finally. But in the text all of it is explained, that it is biased. So it shouldn't be a problem?--Bunifa88 (talk) 19:49, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have found third party sources. Hopefully you wont mind!--Bunifa88 (talk) 20:23, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

iraqi turks and turkmen are the same thing. argh. what is this stubborness? --Bunifa88 (talk) 20:25, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Their name for themselves as well as the way they have been historically called is Turkman not Turk. at least in nearly all cases this is the reality. Ellipi (talk) 20:28, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of course I know that, but the order was wrong, as the (also spelled bla bla) should come AFTER Iraqi Turkmen not after Iraqi Turks.--Bunifa88 (talk) 20:33, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I want to add Avestan script to Avestan/Zoroastrian-related articles. I use this code. Is it allowed according to wiki policy? If it is not, then what is the solution? Thank you. Ellipi (talk) 15:50, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good question :-) I'll look into it, and get back to you. It might not be a quick answer in 5 minutes though! --  Chzz  ►  16:02, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Ellipi (talk) 16:15, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(unindenting)

OK, I did some investigating.

  • There are two documents that give guidance on the subject; WP:ENGLISH mainly says that you shouldn't use too many foreign words, as we don't want entire articles in other languages. WP:MOS#Foreign_terms says a little about the formatting style.
  • My first thought was to borrow the style of Japanese articles, for example;

Japan (日本 Nihon or Nippon?) is very pretty.

(The Japan page uses a template to achieve this, but for your purposes it's probably not worth constructing all the templates, but rather just to copy the code for each instance)

Unfortunately...

  • Your 'code' will not work, for most people. It uses a non-standard font, so unless the user has installed that font, they will just see letters. Hence, I saw 'awEad' in place of 'awEad' (which YOU will see, because you have the font).
  • There are no unicode characters for this language (there is a proposal for the future), so there is no way to have lettering within text. The only remaining option is a picture. So I installed a font (I used 'Avestran 1.0' which I found on the web; I tried jamaspa, but found the former to be clearer). I then typed big leters in word, did a screenprint, pasted into photoshop, cropped the pic and uploaded it. That gives this image;
  • I experimented with putting this image into the 'Japanese' style format;

Daeva (? daēuua, daāua, daēva) is is the Avestan term for...

  • The problem with that is, it won't scale. It has to be fixed pixel height, so it will mess up for people using different font size in their browser, etc. Also, it's a bit 'clumsy'.
  • Given all of the above, the best answer I can give would be, to use the 'Japanese style' for the romanization of the term, and use an image in association. Like this;
The word "Daeva" written in Avestan script

Daeva (daēuua, daāua, daēva?) is is the Avestan term for the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

  • Please note that that is a 'quick and dirty' picture; it's not in the best format, and could be bigger/clearer. I expect the folk at WP:Image requests could make a much better job of it.

I hope that this is helpful; if you'd like more input from me, it would be best to reply below, but please let me know on my own talk page.

Best of luck with it all, --  Chzz  ►  04:12, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mofak Salman Kerkuklu / Muhammad Shamsaddin Megalommatis[edit]

Hello there. Thank you for your comment. From what I could see from this particular web page entry put online by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shamsaddin Megalommatis, he was referring to a book written by Mofak Salman Kerkuklu, and I felt that the majority of this web page was the writings of Mofak Salman Kerkuklu. I do not know how you feel about Kerkuklu. In this case I was using this particular web page to verify that Turkmeneli had a capital city named Kerkuk as the article had zero references in regards to any facts to date, and should really be tagged as an article needing references. If you can replace the reference with another reliable source that is OK. As it currently stands, I do not think that the source, if it is extremist, is introducing extremist views to the article. As it stands now the citation is verifying that the capital is Kerkuk of Turkmeneli. It is important to me not to add any information or sentences into wikipedia without saying where I got it, as that would be original research, and I haven't been to Turkmeneli nor Kerkuk, so I have to use sources. In this way I abide by What wikipedia is and avoid What wikipedia is not. Please comment further or add references and sources to the article to support the sentences and facts thereon. A tag has been placed on Mikhail Barshchevsky requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. The article Teispids has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Original research. The author has concluded from a discussion among historians (see for example page 24-on of the Cambridge ancient history) that "Achaemenians may have been in two lines one related to Teispid and one related to Darius" (this is an ongoing discussion among historians) and the wiki author concludes that "Teispid was a dynasty in ancient Anshan, with Teispes as...". This pure Original Research.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Teispids[edit]

Dear Ellipi, I am a bit busy and can not take care of the article Teipids to be deleted. But I guess (as you see from my comments in the talk page of Cyrus the Great and the deletion reaseon) that you misunderstood some of the articles of Iranica. The discussion by one writer does seem to me enough for creation of an article on Teipids. what do you think? If my proposal is a mistake please excuse me. In any case, I was concerned about wp:OR otherwise the article you use (Iranica article on Fars) is fine with me if used within appropriate section of other articles. Thank you. Xashaiar (talk) 05:29, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is not just Waters. The article, (though currently just a short stup) is significant and is about another pre-achaemenid Iranian dynasty.
PS. I'm busy now and will be back later. Ellipi (talk) 09:54, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Ellipi (talk) 09:54, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Teispids has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Pure OR and WP:Undue. The view that there was a Teispid dynasty is a minority view and according to the Wikipedia:deletion that "Articles whose subjects fail to meet the relevant notability guideline" this article does not belong to Wikipedia. Moreover, the article falsifies the source: that Cyrus I, Cambyses I, and Cyrus II are called by some Teispid. This article does OR to include all their sons and grandsons as well. The information in this article is too short and can be put somewhere else if the viewpoint deserve mention (though in wikipedia non consensus view should not be given any weight).

A tag has been placed on Korek TV requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. ܥܝܪܐܩ (talk) 07:09, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Shahmaran for deletion[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Shahmaran, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shahmaran until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. StAnselm (talk) 03:55, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
