Do it properly[edit]

It is utterly pointless to create fifteen/sixteen unreferenced stub articles all containing the same text. I have restored all your edits to User:Elhorrih/sandbox. What you should now do is: write one article in your sandbox. This article should list the metres and, something which your stubs did not do, explain the differences between the metres. It must also be properly referenced. When it is ready, it can be moved (or I would allow, copy&pasted) to Arabic metres. If it is accepted then, at your leisure you may create redirects to it from the fifteen/sixteen names. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:48, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • My advice to new editors is that it is best to start by making small improvements to existing articles, rather than creating new articles. That way any mistakes you make (which you will, because we all do) will be small ones, and you won't have the discouraging experience of repeatedly seeing hours of work deleted. Gradually, you will get to learn how Wikipedia works, and after a while you will know enough about what is acceptable to be able to write whole new articles without fear that they will be deleted. Over the years I have found that editors who start by making small changes to existing articles and work up from there have a far better chance of having a successful time here than those who jump right into creating new articles from the start. However, in case you do wish to work on the articles yo have created, I have separated out the separate articles which RHaworth had merged together, to make it easier for you. Unfortunately, I was not able to recover the original titles of all of them with certainty, so some may be wrong, but if so they can be renamed. They are now at User:Elhorrih/Ṭawīl, User:Elhorrih/Sarīˁ, User:Elhorrih/Khafīf, User:Elhorrih/Wāfir, User:Elhorrih/Basīṭ, User:Elhorrih/Mutaqārib, User:Elhorrih/Mujṯaṯṯ, User:Elhorrih/Kāmil, and User:Elhorrih/sandbox. I do hope that having your work treated in such a way has not put you off editing Wikipedia. I am posting a "welcome" message above, with links to various poli8cies, guidelines, and so on, which may help you. Also, please feel welcome to contact me on my talk page if you have any questions. • By the way, I see that you have received a message above from someone who thinks the articles were about Arabic, not Persian. It is best to start an article introducing the topic for someone who knows nothing about it, for example, instead of beginning "A poetic meter name from Arabic word..." begin "Wāfir is a Persian poetic meter name from Arabic word..." Have you read the advice above? Please reply. Do you think it would be a good idea if, instead of creating an host of virtually identically stubs, you created one article which compared and contrasted the different metres? Please reply. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:48, 21 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
