Review comments on Pond page updates[edit]

This revision has expanded the content with many well-supported and referenced details. Detailed below are a few suggestions for issues to address that would improve the contributions.

  • It appears that the formatting for section headers was removed as well as the content navigation panel and final 2 sections in the existing article (Examples and See also). Section titles should be styled to allow for easier navigation and maintain the structured format of the page.
  • A few of the terms used are somewhat discipline specific and may benefit from additional definition or linking to other pages with details on these topic: elastic rebound, orogenies, adaptive radiation, long chained biotic interactions (possible to rephrase more concisely?)
  • Suggestions about grammatical/style issues/typos:
  1. 3rd paragraph 2nd sentence ("among their many uses..") is somewhat lengthy. Consider revising this down given there is a separate section detailing uses.
  2. Words that shouldn't be capitalized in the middle of sentences: beaver, bison, alligators, environmental science, chemistry, aquatic biology, limnology, vernal
  3. Introduces should be introduced in 2nd paragraph of conservation and management section.
  4. Remove "even" before rituals to maintain neutral point of view
  • The details added about ponds as sinks for mitigating greenhouse gases could be somewhat misleading without some discussion about ponds as substantial sources of methane. Some open source articles to potentially reference or draw from: Grinham et al 2018 HESS – The importance of small artificial water bodies as sources of methane emissions in Queensland, Australia https://doi.org/10.5194/hess-22-5281-2018; Peacock et al 2019 Ecosphere – Greenhouse gas emissions from urban ponds are driven by nutrient status and hydrology https://doi.org/10.1002/ecs2.2643; Negandhi et al 2013 Plos One – Small thaw ponds: an unaccounted source of methane in the Canadian high arctic https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0078204
  • Some issues with references
  1. Date formatting issues identified (red text) for references 5, 8, 16, 17, 28, 31, 37
  2. link in reference 35 seems to be mistyped or the wrong link
  3. reference 38 and 39 appear to be duplicates of each other
  • Some of the information added about stratification may be more appropriate on the page about lake stratification of lakes because it is not specific to ponds. Consider which aspects are most relevant to ponds vs updating other pages.
