Disambiguation link notification for May 31[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Jack Monroe, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Mirror. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Strawberries are lovely! And they're so fresh! I wish I had some real ones. Eating Nicely (talk) 12:53, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've got some in the garden. And they are indeed fresher than Wickedly Welsh Chocolate. Anyway, thought the project would be of interest to you, lots of ideas of articles to work on. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:57, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ian Lavery[edit]

Just to say thank you for your very useful contribution to the Ian Lavery article. Although I'm a school governor, and we do have some free school meals pupils, I hadn't considered the effect of school holidays on child nutrition. Michael Portillo's 1913 articles on the BBC are worth listening to if you haven't already, he says malnutrition is the reason Britain's army did so badly in the Boer war & hence the welfare state. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b030l0kg/episodes/downloads

Hi EN, I note your interest in nutrition & poverty and wondered whether this medical source and its references may be of interest to you.

Thanks, I added a quote to an article. Eating Nicely (talk) 18:33, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fairly satisfied with the way it is now. I also put it here. Eating Nicely (talk) 01:20, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I found this [1] at effects of Uk Austertity programme. Let's hope giving it publicity will help discourage this type of thing. Eating Nicely (talk) 07:10, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate accounts[edit]

The templates at Category:Alternative Wikipedia account templates, may be of interest. 220 of Borg 14:06, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eating Nicely. Just posting here in response to the comments you made at User talk:Cryptic#User:Fighting Poverty and User:Eating Nicely. I'm still not sure why you need to edit with multiple accounts. Although there are valid reasons for doing so, I'm not sure if yours is one per WP:VALIDALT. The template you've added to your accounts makes it easier for others to see that you and "Fighting Poverty" are one and the same if they are looking at your user page, but this is not evident from looking at article histories, talk page posts, etc. For example, you used both accounts to post replies to Cryptic's talk page. Doing stuff like this can be confusing as pointed out by 220 of Borg, even more so when the discussion is not specifically about your use of multiple accounts. If your areas of interest on Wikipedia are articles poverty and food, then you can more than sufficiently express that on a single user page and edit relevant articles using a single account. Most Wikipedia editors has varied interests and edit different types of articles, but they do not create separate accounts for each type. I think you need to be really careful doing this kind of thing because if you accidentally edit the same article/talk page using both accounts, it could give other editors the wrong impression and lead to serious problems. - Marchjuly (talk) 23:13, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just the name Eating Nicely doesn't fit poverty related articles except where hunger is part of the problem. Therefore I decided on the second account. If I use both accounts for the same article I'll mention that in the edit summary. Eating Nicely (talk) 07:17, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
While your choice of a username may reflect the topics you are interested in, it does not give your edits any more weight or credibility. Editors are essentially free to edit any article regardless of their username and whe it cmes to usernames the only thing that matters is whether they comply with Wikipedia's username policy. Editors do not even have to register to edit articles and can simply do so as an IP address. The fact that an editor has chosen "Sports Fan" as their username does not mean that their edits to poverty articles are any more or less appropriate than the edits you may make using your "Fighting Poverty" account. The same would apply if you decided to use one of your accounts to edit a sports article because it's the quality of the edit, not the username of the editor, which matters the most. There are examples given at WP:VALIDALT where using multiple accounts is considered acceptable, but I do not see how the reasons you've given above or at Cryptic's user talk page fit any of them. I realize that you're being open and not trying to deceive anyone, but I still think this kind of thing is contrary to the spirit of "one editor, one account" which seems to be the common practice on Wikipedia, except in certain recognized cases. - Marchjuly (talk) 13:46, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to make a point that I'm interested in health, food and nutrition, also that I'm interested in problems connected to poverty generally not only poverty leading to malnutrition. I'm making serious statements, it's not just Humor accounts though. Eating Nicely (talk) 16:42, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I kind of understand why you wish to use multiple accounts, I'm just not sure if the reason your giving is something permitted by Wikipedia. Anyone can pretty much freely edit any Wikipedia article which means effective editing often depends upon our ability to collaboratively edit with others and avoid disputes. Editors are expected to edit as neutrally as possible and not push some kind of agenda. I don't really think that's what your intentionally trying to do here, but content disputes tend to arise when a lack of neutrality is percieved. The fact that you use "Fighting Poverty" to edit only poverty articles might be seen by others as a sort of bias on your part and make them less willing to accept your edits and work with you. Total editing contributions are what other editors will look at when they try to assess whether a particular editor is here to build an encyclopedia. If your contribution history is split up among different accounts, others will essentially be reading only a part of the story and may incorrectly come to the conclusion that you are only here for a single purpose. Of course, there's nothing wrong with only editing a certain kind of article as long as the edits comply with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, but once again it could make some a little suspicious of your motivation for editing.
Anyway, I've started a discussion about this at WT:SOCK#Alternative accounts. I don't believe you are engaged in sock puppetry, etc., but WP:SOCK#Legitimate uses is where the relative policy is specificed and typically the talk page of such articles is where these policies are discussed. So far, two other editors have replied. Both of them are quite experienced Wikipedia editors and are also administrators well versed it is various policies and guidelines, especially regarding this kind of thing. My reading of their comments is that they also do not believe your use of multiple accounts is acceptable. I've tried to accurately reflect the situation as much as possible and hope I haven't misreprented you in any way, but obviously you can better explain why you need another account than I can. You should feel free to comment there and correct any errors I might have made and provide any clarification you deem necessary. - Marchjuly (talk) 22:19, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
