Google Fansite[edit]

Regarding googlefansite.com , here is the rule for listing fansite : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:External_links . Fan sites: On articles about topics with many fansites, including a link to one major fansite is appropriate, marking the link as such. Thanks. Asafa Powell and Quixtar[edit]

Didn't you just do the opposite of what you intended here? [1] David D. (Talk) 18:12, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, i see you have already reverted. David D. (Talk) 18:14, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. I watch Quixtar too. Why are you also interested in it? I noticed your edits on my watchlist. Did someone try to get you into the business? What did you think? --Shultz IV 19:29, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fixing my talk page![edit]

ESkog, thank you very much for reverting the vandal edits on my talk page! I hope I may be able to return the favor some day. :-) echelon talk 23:45, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FF pic[edit]

What is up with the revert of the image without an explaination? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dstorres (talkcontribs) 02:46, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

  • I didn't notice that until Digitalme pointed it out to me. I appologize for that. I don't know how it happened when I only changed the image & caption bellow it.Dstorres
  • Thank you for understanding. I love this site and do not intentionally try to annoy admins or other users (there is one exception but I won't go into that). I have had that happen to me 4 times tonite (FF, X-23, Gen 13 & Juggernaut). The others I caught right away (or in Jugs case a bit later) when I was working on other updates. Again, sorry for the trouble. Dstorres

Impostorproofing & determining when/how its being overdone[edit]

An admin wrote: Sometimes too much of a good thing can be bad, so don't overdo it. regarding impostorproofing.

In an IRC chat the other week, you told me (to paraphrase) that it was a good thing to do. Somebody's starting to think I'm overdoing my impostorproofing lately. I don't know where/how I should set my limits in my impostorproofing activities. I never thought anyone would think I'm overdoing this. Besides, the system won't let me create more than 6 new usernames every 24 hours so there didn't seem to be a reason to think I was overdoing it in the first place.

What's your advice regarding this matter? I don't want to give up on a wiki-hobby I've come to like. --Shultz IV 06:08, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This admin is ruining my day again[edit]

If you can see the last three edits here, I changed the image so it displays something more familiar and accurate-looking. I didn't know the previous photo inserted was fofn's. (Note to anyone: Fofn may have a bot that looks for mentions of his full username and even the occurence fofn (without the second f) so don't say either occurrence or else he'll come here and possibly do something harmful to me.)

What I did was insert a more accurate image (and became apologetic in a second edit summary due to not knowing he inserted the last image) and he reverts it calling it "blatant trolling." I don't see how apologies and inserting more accurate images could possibly be construed as blatant trolling. I've never seen the guy accept an apology, so maybe apologies don't work for him.

I don't want to feel like I'm barred from editing any article he's touched on recently, but it's starting to feel that way.

By the way, I consider being called a troll the same as being called a profane word.

Can you do something about the whole situation? These issues can't seem to settle down. --Shultz IV 01:25, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Another admin in a private IRC chat session said the edits I made on the DNA vandal page weren't troll edits. --Shultz IV 01:35, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS2: Another admin told me that the edit summary comment Oh, that was yours? Oh gosh, I should've checked. If I did, I would've been more polite. Really, I didn't know it was your edit! (The last thing I -ever- want to do is provoke his ire!) might have been construed as being "sarcastically apologetic" but I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. Not in the least. Anyone who AGFs wouldn't think I was. --Shultz IV 01:40, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

/* Operating Thetan levels and the Xenu incident */[edit]

I suggested an alternative entry replacing a commercial pitch and got moaned at[edit]

So what do I do next? It seems the Wiki socialware is not 'all that' user friendly but I am happy to accept that fact as work-in-progress and use it as it is. How do I proceed otherwise?

User warnings[edit]

I updated your admin script since you complained of essentialy newline errors, which where fixed. My own script has dropdown warnings for talk pages that make a menu over the "warning" tab when your cursor goes over it. Unfortunetely, my standard admin script does not include this due to a "position:relative" css bug in FF/NN that causes some extra user tabs (depending on the p-cation horiz. length) to disappear (of course making dropdown menus out of one tab reduces this). Also note that when you click "revert as vandalism" and click a warning tab, the article's name will now show.Voice-of-AllTalk 03:36, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to be constructive[edit]

Thanks for the warning, but I was simply reverting somebody else's vandalism like it says to do in the article I read on vandalism...as I recall it says "this is a wiki, fix it yourself". Sorry if I stepped on any toes.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tapdance[edit]

Sorry, I just stumbled onto this AFD right after you had closed it (I was delighted by the good-faith and help you showed in a revert edit summary and looked at your contribs). Anyway, I was wondering if you might re-open it for clearer consensus, as only 4 users took part. I'd be inclined to comment, as it is a very prominent device in all or almost all of Clancy's novels. It is the encryption technology used by diplomats and military commanders in the Jack Ryan universe. With the techno thriller genre tendencies as they are, I'm sure a well developed article could emerge. If you're not wanting to reopen the debate, would you mind moving the deleted info to Tapdance (Clancy) or similar? Thanks! -Mask 07:40, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block[edit]

The block that you have placed on 207.200.116.199. is far too long and you are causing many well intentioned contributors a lot of frustration including myself. Lift the block so that I may continue to work. Tony the Marine 17:13, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi ESkog, thanks for your response. I can't fully understand what happened either. I believe that there must have been a "gliche" in the system because even though I was able to write to you I was still unable to "rollback" a couple of vandals, however everything seems to be in order now. Many thanks for the intervention[edit]

Many thanks to you and the other mods for stepping in when a couple of people decided to take pot shots at my User page, and then my talk page. They seem to have exposed the weakness of sprotection as one of them simply established a new username and picked up where he (most likely) left off. Again, many thanks for your diligence and persistence in this. B.Wind 03:45, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template question[edit]

Good evening. You just used a template when you blocked user:Pustule of Death. Certain elements of that template seem to be slightly out of line with the standards of similar templates at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. I'd like to standardize the template a bit but can't find that exact version. Could you please shoot me the template name when you get a minute? Thanks. AOl/blocks[edit]

Thanks for your help -- I just posted another block message on my talk page -- not an autoblock this time. I'd appreciate your eye on that one, although it's letting me type here. Best wishes. WBardwin 05:48, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Undeletion[edit]

I am challenging your deletion at deletion review. I am afraid the templete is screwy, so I'll provide a link[2].

Templete for good measure: An editor has nominated the closure or deletion of the article Dr. BB Sinha for deletion review. Since you closed the deletion discussion for, or speedy-deleted this article, your opinions on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Yanksox 05:55, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.[edit]

Regarding GameFAQs[edit]

GameFAQs is a message board, and the recent vandalism is probably a result of someone posted "Let's go vandalise Wikipedia" or something. This probably isn't the place to suggest this, but semi-protecting the page for a bit would solve the problem. Just trying to help, Steel 16:09, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quote "Move-Warring" I moved it once, then moved it back, I don't know who I was warring with other then myself...

NOW I see the warning, hiding at the bottom, and dated today, june 8, but I havent moved any pages today

This blocked user has requested to be unblocked. The reason given is: {{{1}}} Administrators: If there is a legitimate reason to remove the block, please do so (unblock link); otherwise, please leave a note to that effect on the user's talk page. In either case, please remove this template once you're done. Blocked editor: If the block message says that your IP address is blocked or that your IP address was recently used by a blocked user, please paste the block message or post your IP address below as we have no way of unblocking you if your username itself was not blocked. The only warning iv'e ever recieved was by accident, is it an IP block because I am on a network computer in a public place right now? Or is it my username... and if it is, theres no reason that my account should be blocked right?

Unblock request denied; clear pattern of move-warring without consensus and continuing after being warned. (ESkog)(Talk) 16:51, 8 June 2006 (UTC) Luke Smith64 17:05, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dogs On Acid[edit]

Ok, I went to Notability section, "Criteria for web content" subsection and dogsonacid.com applies to all paragraphs there. From newspapers, online magazines, etc. That site has a wide-spread reputation world-wide. Something like mtv.com for pop music. Thanks Attreyu 17:16, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Admin?[edit]

I notice you're a pretty active vandal-fighter with some other good contributions over the span of a year. Do you have any interest in running for adminship? If so, drop me a line and I can craft you a nomination... (ESkog)(Talk) 02:44, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the message, and for the offer. I have been doing alot of vandal-fighting and could use the tools. If it is not too much trouble to write the nomination, I would certainly accept. DVD+ R/W 17:51, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

what the heck?[edit]

Hey, I didn't edit any page. So don't you warn me. I never even heard of that guy, and my IP address isn't in its history, so what the heck are you talking about on my usertalk page? --207.75.178.75 21:14, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Woah. Holy crap. I just looked in my talk pages history, and it said that you left that message in December, when I had never seen that message before, left that edit to the page, or even heard of the guy who the page is about. Now thats freaky. --207.75.178.75 21:22, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Destructive edit?[edit]

Hello, this is 72.197.2.40, and you just gave me a warning for destructive edits. Not sure what edit you are referring to / what i did wrong or if this was mistaken. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.197.2.40 (talkcontribs) 07:40, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Please refrain from adding nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to Oregon. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox.
