Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew[edit]

Hi Donelson,

Thanks for your contributions on the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew article. However, I'm going to have to scale them back a bit. In general, Wikipedia doesn't encourage external links — we would much rather have the information inside the encyclopedia. Your basic link to www.explore-kew-gardens.net is fine, in that 360° panoramas aren't something we can handle well internally. However, we don't need quite so much emphasis and the promotional images are a big step too far and will have to be deleted.

For general advice on external linking, see Wikipedia:External links and Wikipedia:Spam. -- Solipsist 08:27, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, the 360 [panorama] on the Kew Gardens page looks really nice, but it is a shame that there is no higer resolution version available, any chance of a higher resolution file? --Tomhannen 12:38, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

The images you've added to the Taj Mahal look really great. I notice though that when you've uploaded them you cite a website and say "courtesy of xyz" - this implies 1. You don't hold the copyright yourself. 2. You've received permission to use the images from the website.
It's a good idea to add any correspondence from the website to the talk page of the images and you'll have to change the licence from GNU to "copyright released with attribution" (I'm no copyright expert but I'm sure you have the wrong tag here).
If, on the other hand, you don't have permission from the website to use the images, we'll have to have them deleted. You see the thing is, wikipedia doesn't really earn much money and is terrified of being sued - violation of copyright is one way we can be hauled over the coals so it's really important that we don't use copyrighted material on wikipedia (wikipedians call this 'copyvio' for short.) Could you then clarify what the situation is with these images? Many thanks. --Joopercoopers 14:19, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:P75-wikipedia.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:P75-wikipedia.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ed g2stalk 19:28, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Taj Picture[edit]

I don't want to get into an argument about that picture. I do want to stress, however, that everything in Wikipedia is subject to change. I know this from hard experience. There is no such thing as 'agreement'.

Take a look at the Taj Myths discussion to see what is required even to claim consensus. Your picture has not been vetted in this thorough way, and I sincerely doubt it would survive the process. Don't be alarmed or angry or defesnive if someone moves your little picture or even deletes it. Just put it back if you're so inclined -- that's your prerogative. --Nemonoman 12:16, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TO: Nemonoman RE: My suggestion on the correct course of action --

Yes, I understand. But if you are going to remove something that someone else has added, then it's best to discuss it with them first.

If you want to change your own additions, go ahead.

If there is clear vandalism, go ahead.

If there is an academic difference of opinion, discuss first.

Cheers, William

Discussing edits is NOT a requirement of any kind. I think you may have a very odd idea of how this process works.
I'd also like to point out that I moved your picture...I did NOT delete it. Also that you added it, and moved it yourself without discussing those edits with me or anybody.--Nemonoman 11:25, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is NOT a requirement, but it IS a COURTESY. W Donelson

Taj pics[edit]

Hi Donelson, I come cap in hand for a favour. Do you have any more pictures of the Taj complex? Whilst there's an abundance of images of the mausoleum, there's a paucity of images of the rest of the complex. I need to illustrate Origins and architecture of the Taj Mahal which is a content fork of the main article - I'm leaving that to rot at the moment, but I'll eventually incorporate a summary of the new article in the main one. I have a shopping list:-

  1. interior of the jawab
  2. interior of the mosque.
  3. interior of the takhana or/and exterior of the riverfront terrace towers
  4. half decent pre 1906 early photograph of the garden showing it's overgrown and picturesque nature.
  5. better pic of the great gate
  6. pic of the inner subsidiary tombs
  7. Jilaukhana preferably with the bazaar street
  8. Preserved gate in Taj Ganj
  9. Eastern waterworks
  10. detail pic of the fountains in the Moonlight garden.

I'd be enormously grateful for any help.--Joopercoopers 11:53, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joopers- I can provide some of the pictures you want, but would prefer to discuss this via email. Did you get my recent emails to you? William Donelson
