Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, DonInUtah. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Incyte, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GeneralNotability (talk) 00:43, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reply - Thank you very much for this information! I am not employed by Incyte corporation, and am not working for them in any way. I live in Utah and work at a company that distributes contact lenses which is in no way affiliated with Incyte or anyone in that industry. My side job is working as a realtor selling residential homes. I simply saw a page for a publicly traded company which was very outdated and updated the page to reflect more current information and cleaned up the headings. I did notice the edit request from the incyte employee on the talk page from a few months ago, and I did incorporate some of the changes requested for accuracy as they did contain more up to date information and could be easily independently verified as incyte is a publicly traded company. I did not include some of her changes which sounded "advertisey" and did not "rubber stamp" anything suggested by the incyte employee without researching it first. I looked at some other more complete wiki pages from pharmaceutical companies including Bristol Myers Squibb and tried to match better to the formats and headings used on them to ensure that I was cleaning up the page in a way that matched what other wikipedia editors already decided were appropriate for that industry. I used to be more active on wikipedia several years ago, but I could not find/access my old account because I have not used it in several years, and no longer have access to the email address that was associated with it, which is why I have a new account. DonInUtah, all right - I just can get a little suspicious when a brand-new editor shows up to an out-of-the-way page about a company and starts making those kinds of edits :). Your explanation covers all of my concerns. Sorry about the unfounded suspicion, and welcome back! GeneralNotability (talk) 01:57, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
