Dear Professor Williams,

Thank you for contacting me to discuss the series of article on the history of Guatemala. Unfortunately, these articles are not acceptable for entries on Wikipedia. While the works may not meet the guidelines of Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought, I would advise you that we do not like duplicates of already existing content on Wikipedia. If your student would like to add information to Wikipedia - and we fully encourage her to do so - she should begin by adding to the existing History of Guatemala article to allow for centralized editing.

Lastly, I would hope you encourage you student to recognise that Wikipedia is maintained by a global community of volunteers, and we don't like our hard work being ignored. We use discussion pages such as this one to build consensus, and inform others of what we are doing. Surely you understand how invaluable these principles are to any successful open-source project. I will unblock Joanne, but under the condition that she first post a message at the existing discussion area, replies to and listens to any warnings on her personal talk page - she failed to listen to Wikipedia administrators previously, and does not post any new articles until she has begun to editing constructively on existing pages.

Thank you,

University of Toronto wiki project[edit]

On my talk page, you mentioned a studnt wiki project in one of your classes. Have to read Wikipedia:Schools' FAQ and added an outline of the project to Wikipedia:School and university projects. This allows you to get a feel for how Wikipedia can be used effectively, and also allows the community to know there is a project going on, and new users may be posting large new article (as in Joanne's case) so that we may be better understanding. I hope you will add a short section to this page, perhaps noting target articles to improve or a list of username account where your students are editing from (eg. 1. User:Joanne Amaral, 2. User:Derek.williams. Thank you, and good luck with the project. Harro5 22:21, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
