Shared IP[edit]

Hi there, noticed you'd left a message about an edit made under the IP 103.9.40.132. This appears to be a shared IP. Edits have been made by multiple users who apparently do not know each other, using this IP. Attempting to contact someone by shared IP can be a bit like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Shared IP's are comparable to the shared use of pre-internet era telephone party-lines, shared with sincerity of intention. (Please note: some internet service providers charge extra fees for assigning fixed IP's. Shared IP's are used by genuine ISP customers in good faith.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.9.40.132 (talk) 09:17, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ampleforth College[edit]

Hi David!

I don't quite fully understand why you have reverted my last edits to the schools' article. Everything that I have removed wasn't sourced or wasn't encyclopedic in any way. Remember this is a wikipedia article, not the school's brochure, we need to keep it as neutral as possible. There cannot be any advertisement, specially when it is not even referenced.

Warm regards

Reversions, Saint Ann's School[edit]

Hello, I'm writing to you regarding various changes I made to the wikipedia page for Saint Ann's School (New York City), on the basis that my edits "did not appear constructive." However, I can't help but disagree -- many of the changes I made added numerous notable graduates of Saint Ann's School, who have Wikipedia pages themselves, and I don't understand why those edits are not constructive. I respect your decision to revert changes that were unsourced; however, many edits I made that WERE sourced were reverted, which frankly, I find to be unreasonable. Second, I'd like to point out that if you're going to hold this particular Wikipedia page to a certain level of standards in terms of sourcing, I'd suggest you apply similar guidelines to other pages, which is not, at the moment, the case. Consider the Ethical Culture Fieldston School's page, another New York City private school, in which a vast majority of those listed as "notable alumni" are unsourced. Thank you -- I appreciate it! Tmnh07 (talk) 05:31, 18 July 2016 (UTC)Tmnh07[reply]

First, the school wikilink you provided was incorrect, and so misdirected readers; I have corrected this. Second, I concur with M moreno's edits (reversions): You provide no sources for your edits. (Wikilinks are not sources, see WP:VERIFY.) If you enter names with published articles indicating that an individual is an alum of this school, then experienced editors here will not revert you. Add content without, editors should, and will. The fact that many articles are worse is immaterial; it is no one editors to maintain quality at all articles, and not doing so cannot be a criticism of an effort to maintain compliance with WP:VERIFY at this one. 73.211.138.148 (talk) 05:42, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Tmnh07. Thanks for your comments. I do hundreds of edits per day, and I do admit that I make errors. I have double checked the reversions, and it appears I might have thrown the baby out with the bathwater. Yes there are people which should be added, but there are also people who are either unsourced or do not have a Wikipedia article. To be notable, they need at least a Wikipedia article. I apologise for any inconvenience. I would recommend that you make small edits, a bit at a time, which gives other editors time to verify and then if a revert is required, only a small amount is reverted. Keep up the good work. Cheers. David.moreno72 (talk) 05:54, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Am I reverted just because IP[edit]

Why was I reverted at the Eckler major edit—all edits had clear edit summaries, and all the citations were improved to template and complete status. Was it just that I was editing from IP address? Note, in reverting these clear, good edits, you returned the word "infancy" to the lede, which was clearly a misspelling. What was the point? 73.211.138.148 (talk) 05:32, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi IP. Thanks for your comments. I have reviewed the reversion and I can't see why I reverted. I use a tool called Huggle and I might have simply pressed the wrong button. It certainly wasn't because you are an IP. My reversion was reverted shortly afterwards so it's rather moot anyway. Sorry for the inconvenience. Keep up the good work. Cheers. reliable resources a first time wiki editing[edit]

Need help I just started editing wiki first time. And I've received a message about "reliable resources." I hope I've added reliable resources as it explained, and deleted notification. Please let me know, if I did it right. If I didn't, please help me how to do it right. Thank you. Muso1student (talk) 08:34, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Muso1student. I've removed all the unreferenced info. If you want to add a date of birth for example, you will need to provide a reliable source that actually gives his birthdate. If he has published a book, it will have an ISBN, etc, etc. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask. Cheers. David.moreno72 (talk) 09:13, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for fast response. Do you consider as "reliable source" as Japanese Wikipedia? If so, please refer it. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%96%B0%E5%9E%A3%E6%B8%85 Thank you. Muso1student (talk) 10:27, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Muso1student. Per WP:WINARS, the answer is no. Cheers. David.moreno72 (talk) 10:34, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So, does wiki need reference/resource in every detail? Does books prove his existence and other information? Thank you for your help. Muso1student (talk) 10:48, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just provide reliable sources. If he has a book published it will have an ISBN. If there is no ISBN then it shouldn't be added. David.moreno72 (talk) 10:54, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How about his direct words? Does wiki accept them? Thank you for your help. Muso1student (talk) 11:50, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Muso1student. Sure, if they have been published in a reliable source. If you can link to them that would be great. Cheers David.moreno72 (talk) 11:52, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your quick response. So, if I edit his profile in wiki and attach a reference, that is OK then? When I edited first time, I put his profile from his book. At that point, I didn't understand wiki system of editing. Sorry about that. So, I can put back his profile in wiki and put that recourse info, right? Thank you. Muso1student (talk) 12:04, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Muso1student. That should be OK. Cheers David.moreno72 (talk) 12:32, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help[edit]

Thank you for your help. Appreciated. Muso1student (talk) 12:48, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disha Patani DOB[edit]

Hi David,

Disha Patani participated in Miss Indore 2013 contest where every contestant has to reveal their age. She turned 20 in 2012. Her official facebook page has a video of HERSELF on her Birthday thanking fans (13 June, 2016). https://www.facebook.com/DishaToabh/videos/604453726391043/

This is her video where she won Pantaloon Fresh Face in 2012 and she HERSELF confirms she is from Bareilly and a student of BTech in Lucknow University - 2012. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1iQ2o1ilk8

What more can be reliable than the actor herself confirming details in videos? She made a special video to thank fans on her birthday and her fans know 13 June is her birthday. Her d.ob is 100% confirmed as 13 June, 1992.

As for birth year, I dont why her fans on wikipedia are ashamed of revealing it but here is the video from 2012 where she was the first runner up confirming her as 19 and she turned 20 the same year. All her interviews given since 2012, confirm her birth year as 1992.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXNi7RDe8ys

http://www.mazale.in/disha-patani-height-age-career-personal-life-biography/ http://www.bollywoodpapa.com/bollywood-actors/tiger-shroff/8-amazing-facts-about-tiger-shroffs-secret-girlfriend-disha-patani https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1588976084755945&id=1584276958559191 http://celebsbikini.pictures/disha-patani-latest-bikini-pics-hot-images-hd-bikini-wallpapers/

If there is still hesitation, she can be contacted on her official facebook page to confirm 1992 as her birth year. It was visible for a long time till Dec 2015 when her birth year started going missing. I don't understand the references used are also from internet pages then why are these not considered valid? References calling her "Tiger Shroff's girlfriend" are not reliable as Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani have NEVER confirmed their relationship. These need to be removed if internet pages are unreliable! "MS Dhoni - The Untold Story: Tiger Shroff's girlfriend Disha Patani bags a role in the biopic". indiatoday.com. 6 January 2016. Retrieved 26 February 2016. "MS Dhoni - The Untold Story: Tiger Shroff's girlfriend Disha Patani bags a role in the biopic : Bollywood, News - India Today". indiatoday.intoday.in. Thank-you for your comments. What I saw was a note 'Must be attributed to a reliable published source with an established reputation for fact-checking. No blogs. No IMDb. No public records. See WP:BLPPRIVACY' being replaced with an unsourced DOB, in direct contradiction with the note. Those notes are there for a reason, but it's rather moot now as the page has been protected because of the numerous unsourced changes. Thank-you David.moreno72 (talk) 13:58, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion Kebumen City[edit]

Hi. I edited the page Kebumen_City page. I removed several texts that was not relevant to the page, because the scope should be different to Kebumen_Regency. In addition, I found similar texts between those two pages, e.g. Kebumen leader, and mass media, which were also removed from Kebumen City page. Finally, I updated the population number based on the newest result in 2014. So, could you explain why the article was reverted? Thanks. --Rupert.kidright (talk) 02:45, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rupert.kidright. Thanks for your comments. I'm sorry but I have to disagree with your changes and my revert will remain in place. Since you are close to being involved in an edit war I would not recommend making any changes to the page but instead seek a consensus on the talk page. Thank-you David.moreno72 (talk) 04:01, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank David.moreno72 for your response and suggestion. Yes, I am aware about edit war and I have tried to avoid it by trying to seeking a consensus on the talk page and talking on the previous editor's talk page. However, the previous editor (not you) just reverted the page without any explanation. That's why I tried to edit the page again. Anyway, I think I will leave this page as it is, following your suggestion. I'm sorry for this trouble. Thank you again. --Rupert.kidright (talk) 05:15, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

about "Notice about sources"[edit]

Hi, David.moreno72 Thank you for helping me earlier. However, I have received "Notice about sources" that saying the resource I provided is not enough. I thought it was OK from your approval. This Kiyoshi Arakaki's profile was quoted from his book that published and showed in the overview at this site; http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-secrets-of-okinawan-karate-kiyoshi-arakaki/1112447331#productInfoTabs I had cited this URL earlier, however, it is gone now. Please help me. Thank you. Muso1student (talk) 05:26, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Muso1student. When you said 'I put his profile from his book' I was under the impression that the profile was an extract of the book, but after viewing the Barnes & Noble link, I can see that was not the case, and yes the highly experienced administrator who removed the link was correct. The profile was part of an unreferenced promotional blurb and so cannot be used. Sorry about any confusion. Cheers David.moreno72 (talk) 07:13, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your help. Well I don't know what to do anymore. I just hope the site will not be deleted. Thank you. Sincerely Muso1student (talk) 07:49, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Question about attaching hyperlink[edit]

Hi, David.moreno72. I have a question about attaching a hyperlink. There is a Japanese wiki site about this Kiyoshi Arakaki. Is is OK to attach the URL to his name in Japanese? Like this one below in Japanese Kiyoshi Arakaki (Japanese: 新垣清); born Oct. 17, 1954, attaching this below to his name https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%96%B0%E5%9E%A3%E6%B8%85 Thank you. Need help for editing[edit]

Hi, David.moreno72. You have been helping me so much.

Now I've got a notice of deletion. I am so confused and I feel like I am attacked by "Mdtemp" because Mdtemp is saying "I'm an MMA fan" which I assume that Mdtemp is saying every martial artists has to be a member of MMA.

I am not just putting his books in Wikipedia. I am trying to establish his recognition in English. Is it not good things to do?

Please help me. Thank you. Muso1student (talk) 02:41, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Muso1student. Wikipedia has strict policies on biographies of living people, and the first of those is that they need to be notable per WP:GNG and WP:MANOTE. If these rules were not in place Wikipedia would quickly lose it's unique appeal as it would soon be overflowing with puffed up and unverifiable biographies that no one would ever be interested in anyway. The other key aspect of Wikipedia is consensus, and with that in mind you have the opportunity to vote and make your case on whether an article should be deleted. I would recommend adding a vote to the AFD discussion with a detailed explanation on why, and then to respect whatever the result is. Thank-you David.moreno72 04:47, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 69.196.163.46. I don't see any mention of his alleged Spanish citizenship in the article, nor did you provide a reliable source to verify. May I suggest that you provide a reliable source regarding his Spanish citizenship. Thank-you. David.moreno72 06:10, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

0.999... = 1 page.[edit]

Hi David,

I'm quite bemused by your negative assessment (of the citation I provided) that the person cited "does not understand limits". My reading of this proof is that Limits are not part of it, they are simply part of a OP discussion leading up to the proof.

Did he misspell the word "Limit" or something? What petty part of his post matters so much to you that you refuse to honour the proof? Its absolutely brilliant. People are human, you know, and its just a amateur blog. Its not pretending to be an academic journal. But how much more impressive is that!

And where exactly does it say in Wikipedia rules that a blog URL is not sufficient as a citation source? Funny, I see them everywhere else, but not on this page. Why not?

If you start applying rules of your own then THAT breaches the Wikipedia guidelines, my friend, because your interfering with the free expression of information that is in the public interest to know. That means your wasting my time by not carrying out the spirit and intent of Wikipedia. God help you sunshine if this guy gets published in the academic journals, but you knocked it back over some petty excuse that amounts only to the fact that it hasn't been peer reviewed (yet).

Therefore kindly be more specific and substantiate your position. What, in particular, makes you think this blog poster "does not understand limits" so egregiously that it renders his proof of the question "0.999... < 1" unfit for citation in Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abunyip (talkcontribs) 11:07, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Abunyip. You have the wrong person. David.moreno72 11:10, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David, you seem to dislike my edits. They are good faith attempts at improvements. It is very disheartening. They are mostly copy edits and tightening of wooly language. Hi Sakib Hasan Tusher. Although the reference does support one of the claims that you made, it may simply be the wrong place to add the information, especially since it's present on another page. The page which you added the information is more of a top level, broad based view of a healthy human skeleton. There are probably thousands of different conditions and maladies that involve bones, and to list and detail them all on a single page would become to unwieldy. Don't get too disheartened. There is always work to be done on Wikipedia. Thanks David.moreno72 12:10, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The nominated person is a youth activist in Pakistan KPK province and have done a lot of social works and doing the same in the area, vision of him is to use the youth in right way and help to make the world peaceful, help as we can. The vision is good and appriciatable please review and help to improve the article. Hi Muhammadalijan92. I'm sure that Syed Saqib Imad is a nice guy and that he has made some worthy contributions to his community, it's just that Wikipedia has a number of policies that need to be followed before a biography can be created. First and foremost is that the person must meet notability criteria. To see these criteria I highly recommend reading WP:BIO. Second, and probably equally important, is that the information is verifiable with reliable third party sources. Sorry about that, but those are the rules of Wikipedia. David.moreno72 11:44, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dear David please give me chance to improve the article. Thanks--Muhammadalijan92 (talk) 13:08, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Muhammadalijan92. I would suggest that you provide information from third party news sources, or information that denotes the subject's notability as per WP:BIO if you want the page to remain. If you do not, no amount of 'improvement' will help. Thanks David.moreno72 13:12, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This article does not cite any sources[edit]

Hello David.moreno72 , on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tafila_Technical_University , why I still have this ->(" This article does not cite any sources. ") , even I added many sources ?

Hi Thelaststory99. The note that you speak of was added to the page shortly after it was created, back in June 2008. Even when references are added, the notice will stay in place as I don't think there is a bot that removes them. They have to be removed manually. Now that the article has references feel free to remove the notice, making sure that you leave an explanation in the edit summary. Thank-you David.moreno72 11:52, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why was I reverted[edit]

Hi I was reverted on the news page and I don't see what I did wrong? thanks!

Hi CodeKeem. There are a number of problems. Firstly, given your username it may appear as promotion. Secondly, the page is more of a top level view. If one was to include all the YouTubers that do some sort of news, the entire page would be inundated. Quite simply, it just wasn't appropriate. Thank-you. Hi Seanzhang1015. Sorry but can't do. The material you have been copying and pasting has a number of issues. First, since it has been copied and pasted, it is a breach of copyright. I also notice that this is not the first time that you have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia. Repeated additions of copyrighted material may lead to you being blocked from editing. Hi Attainer. In it's present state the article that you have created does not met Wikipedia'a requirements. A single short sentence does not make an article. Also, it would seem that it does not meet WP:GNG and the requirement that biographies of living people have references. Hi 210.6.254.106. Please read WP:CAT-R David.moreno72 07:57, 8 August 2016 (UTC).[reply]
Can you please be more specific, and also explain why you pointed it back to Lee Tae-min whose name is not Taeman? 210.6.254.106 (talk) 07:58, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi 210.6.254.106. The redirect does not need any edits. 1. The link I supplied gives an explanation to why categories are NOT added to redirects. And in the article that is being redirected to, it says 'Lee Tae-min (born July 18, 1993[1]), better known by the mononym Taemin', contradicting what you claimed. Thank-you David.moreno72 08:04, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
We are discussing the redirect Taeman]with an "a". Taemin and Taeman are not the same thing. Additionally, WP:RCAT states that "There are some situations where placing a redirect in an article category is acceptable and can be helpful to users browsing through categories". Taeman is a Korean given name and I placed it in the appropriate category. 210.6.254.106 (talk) 08:08, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi: ./;l I tried to add Jerry Harmon, who is a well-respected Escondido political figure, to the Notable People section, but the change was reverted. I don't understand what you meant "not constructive". Do I need to cite references or what? He is more deserving to be mentioned in that section than most people who are included there.

Hello fellow AFC reviewer! From time to time I take a break from reviewing articles and instead submit articles to the AFC queue, to see how the process is working. I must say, your decline reason on Draft:4Moms was not founded in policy. Specifically you wrote: "With all the links it looks like spam. Article is also way to short. A very short article denotes that the subject is not notable enough to be included in Wikipedia." That is a shock to see so many false premises in one sentence! A very short article is called a STUB, and is not only allowed, it is sometimes encouraged. The links are all to independent, reliable sources that significantly discuss the subject. Calling a stub spam because it has good references is hitting at the core of the wikipedia ethos, and something I do encourage you to think about. In the mean time, I will accept the article as-is and move it to mainspace. You are free to send it to AFD, if you would like to hear from others on the topic of stubs and notability. Anamorphic widescreen[edit]

Hello, the wiseGEEK article in the original reference talks about "vertically stretching the image", but in practice the master is usually (if not always) being horizontally compressed, since the master is higher definition than the final standard definition output. The visual effect you have at the end is the same, but if you really used vertical stretching then you would be upscaling instead of downscaling the master, and so the final video would be of quite bad quality. Do you have any other issue against my version, including the other improvements I did? If not, I will revert your reversion. Thank you. --2001:470:7C50:48FF:0:0:DEAD:BEEF (talk) 02:31, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 2001:470:7C50:48FF:0:0:DEAD:BEEF . Thanks for your comments. Just as aside, did you notice that your IP ends with DEAD BEEF. Quite amazing!! Anyway, It's an interesting puzzle. Is it stretching on the vertical, or squeezing on the horizontal? After I reverted your change, I did a bit of researching and it seems that both terms are used. Also, are the two terms equivalent? Could it possibly say in the article, as a compromise, that the 'image is vertically expanded (horizontally compressed)'? Who is right and who is wrong? What is the 'correct' answer? Well, in this case I think the best way to move forward is to pose the question on the talk page to see if a consensus can be reached. I will pose the question and see how it goes. Any further reversions until a consensus is reached may appear disruptive. Thank-you David.moreno72 03:02, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I just spotted the section below and saw that it hadn't actually been declined. I have updated the sources some more. Let me know what you think, and if there are any other changes I may need to add for this article to be accepted.

Thank you so much,

Lhaddad1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lhaddad1 (talkcontribs) 15:34, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lhaddad1. The last thing is to fix up the 'Further reading' section. Instead of adding 'references', use the book/journal cite tool. You will see that in the editing tool, under the bold B, where it says Templates. Select the cite book or cite journal, depending on the source, and then type in the ISBN(if it's a book) or the DOI(if it's a journal). You will notice a little magnifying glass next to them. Click it, and it will fill in the rest of the fields for you!!! (From a central online database). Also, remove the first semicolon in each of the categories. It is not needed. Once that it is all done, let me know, and if there are no other problems, I will happily accept it for you. Cheers. David.moreno72 16:15, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

06:56:09, 25 August 2016 review of submission by Jeanneleez[edit]

I'm really sorry, but I do not understand what I am doing wrong. I actually looked at the content of a competitor (Akraya) and modeled it after their page. I removed the external links from the introductory paragraph. I was wondering whether it made better sense to switch the History section with the intro paragraph. My citations are all live, and I was wondering what other content you are looking for in the way of citations. I have written the content with no promotional wording, sharing only the facts of the company.

Any advice on how I can make this go live would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeanneleez

Hi. @Jeanneleez: I had a look at the Akraya page and it has 5 inline references just in the first paragraph. Your entire article has none. You need inline references. Thank-you David.moreno72 07:09, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. @Jeanneleez: I saw that you have added inlines. Great stuff, unfortunately it was not enough, so I have removed the unsourced sections, which will hopefully give the article a better chance of being approved. Hope you don't mind. Cheers David.moreno72 15:24, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

13:11:07, 25 August 2016 review of submission by Iphigenia Wang[edit]

Hi, I am a new editor in here, and as one of Uk Museum's placement student from China, I am not very familiar with Wikipedia UK, and may I ask some confused questions in here? I am a bit confused why the Wikipedia UK doesn't allow an independent article of " snuff box" exist? In my sense it's a notable cultural stuff in European cultural art. Here are many different styles of snuff boxes in my placement museum, they include both aesthetic and practical value, and I also found an independent article “Snuff bottle” which refers Chinese snuff decorative box in Qing Dynasty. Qing Dynasty is a similar historic period with Victorian period,it seems both snuff bottle and snuff box could represent both different special cultural sense and similar cultural link together. Also in my placement museum, here are some touched snuff boxes'stories with soldiers. For example, here is an interesting Highlanders’ Regimental tradition adopted by General Wemyss about recruiting the new soldiers. The General with a “snuff mull” in his hand and followed by an attendant with a bottle of Whisky, went down the ranks, and to every young man that he wished to enlist he offered snuff. This signal was perfectly understood, and the young man would step out of the ranks and take the snuff and his dram while the clerk recorded his name.Another example is a rectangular tontine silver snuff box which has four hinged compartments for snuff. On the lid is an inscription explaining ownership, which was the last remaining Officer on the list who was serving with the Regiment. It's normally considered this box is belonged to four different regimental officers who purchased it together, and when an officer died in the battle, the others kept it until the last keeper. It stands for a precious friendship of these officers. So why do you highlight the art value of snuff bottle, but ignore the same value of snuff box? Thanks indeed for read my long questions, looking forward your reply, and have a nice day! Iphigenia

Hi @Iphigenia Wang:. I've had a go at rearranging the images so that it better complies with the MOS. It's a bit rough, but hopefully you can get some ideas. Also, there needs to be a bit of copyediting (it's rather long) and more inline references. Let me know after some improvements. If it is worthy of a separate article, I'm sure that it will be approved. Cheers. David.moreno72 15:13, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Image for my article you reviewed[edit]

Thanks for taking a look at the article I submitted. I believe the photo I used is in the public domain, and I have uploaded it to Wikimedia Commons, but you marked it a copyright violation. Could you let me know where I went wrong on this one so I can try to fix it? I may just remove the image for now, until I learn what I need to do.

Lordfarquaad (talk) 13:20, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lordfarquaad. My concern was that the image was used elsewhere, and so it was difficult to establish ownership. To be sure, what I would recommend is to use a photo that has not been used before. Thanks David.moreno72 15:16, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks David.moreno72! I actually did remove the image myself and then resubmitted, and then I had posted this question in the AfC helpdesk. Shortly after I posted it there, a fellow reverted my article because he thought the image was fine, so now it is on the article again. I'm not sure what to do. Should I just let it ride and see what happens in the review?

Non-free images in drafts[edit]

Hi David,

I've come across two AfC drafts in the last hour or so that you declined because they included a non-free image. I'm not sure that's the best way to deal with such case. The image itself is the copyright violation, not the draft containing it, and it remains a copyright violation if the draft is declined. Conversely, the text of the draft may be perfectly good, and the canned copyvio decline reason makes explicit reference to copyrighted text that is rather confusing when used for copyrighted images. I would have thought it would make more sense to leave a note on the draft and/or the editors talk page explaining the situation (but not "instant declining" it), and nominate the file for deletion from Commons (to tackle the actual copyvio problem). Joe Roe (talk) 21:29, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 2604:2000:E016:A700:4CA4:767F:2D92:41A6. The page you are referring to is a disambiguation page. Disambiguation pages don't have references, but links to other Wikipedia articles. The rule is quite simple. No link, No entry. Hope that helps. David.moreno72 04:00, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think thats true. Can you point me to the rule that says that? Thanks. This is a notable person, as you can see from the references, and he is already in other wikipedia articles. Please show me the rule that says that where we have those facts, the result is what you say it is. -- (talk) 04:03, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227. Sure, It's here and here. David.moreno72 04:19, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What you pointed me to says "A link to a non-existent article (a "red link") should only be included on a disambiguation page when an article (not just disambiguation pages) also includes that red link."

It says that in the very first sentence. Of the section "Red Links." At MOS:DABRED

That is exactly what we had.

Which you deleted. --2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227 (talk) 04:26, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227. No you didn't. Please do not misrepresent. This is what you had.

Richard Temtchine, a film writer and director

a is not an article, film is not an article, writer is not an article, and is not an article, and director is not an article. Thank-you David.moreno72 04:32, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I do not understand you. Articles pointing to the target also include that red link. That is exactly what the rule you pointed me to calls for. And it says that the red link in the disambiguation page "should only be included" when that is the case. And that is exactly the case. There are two articles that "also include that red link." Read Dummy (film). Read Villalobos Brothers.

I didn't make this rule up. It is right there in the rule you pointed me to. The first sentence.

What don't you understand? That leads you to say I am making a misrepresentation?

It looks as though you don't understand the rule. You seem to think it says something it does not say. It does not say that the description in the disambiguation page must have an article - it says there must be an article with the same red link ... that some article (not just the disambiguation page) must also have the fellow as a red link. Which we did have. There was no reason to delete it. I think you have not understood the rule. --2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227 (talk) 04:46, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227. The article/s that include the link MUST be in the entry. So what would be allowed is this

Richard Temtchine, a film writer and director of Dummy (film)

not what you had previously. Do you see the difference now? A dab entry always has a blue link in it. Always. No exceptions. Thank-you David.moreno72 04:57, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the sentence. It is the rule. You sent it to me yourself.

It says "A ... "red link" ... should only be included on a disambiguation page when an article (not just disambiguation pages) also includes that red link."

That means that when an article also include the red link, the red link can certainly absolutely positively no doubt be included on the disambiguation page.

That is and was the case.

The Dummy article "also includes that red link."

The rule was met.

What are you reading into that sentence that is not there?

You are completely confused. The rule that you think applies does not. Just read the rule. It only applies -- read it -- where there is NOT a non-disambiguation-page article with a red link to the same name. You're not understanding AT ALL the rule that you yourself sent me.

It met the requirements of the rule. But you deleted it. That's not nice. And not right.--2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227 (talk) 05:11, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227. In the link that I gave you it says Red links should not be the only link in a given entry, which is what you had, which is why I deleted it. Dab entries MUST link to an existing article. Period. Thank you. David.moreno72 05:20, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

READ THE SENTENCE -- the very first sentence. It explains CLEARLY that in these circumstances red links are fine. That they are ONLY not fine (if you read the second paragraph) and require your changes when there is no other article that red links the same person. READ IT. Sheesh. It says "A ... "red link" ... should only be included on a disambiguation page when an article (not just disambiguation pages) also includes that red link." And then says that when there is not such an article you have to do what you want to do (but didn't do .. you just deleted ... which is not all about building an encyclopedia ... ")--2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227 (talk) 05:48, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227. I would suggest that you take your objection to the Manual of Style/Disambiguation Page talk page. If you want, you could add to the discussion which has already taken place here. Thank-you. David.moreno72 05:57, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

David, I repeatedly quoted to you the language of the rule. The rule you sent me. It is clear. It says "A ... "red link" ... should only be included on a disambiguation page when an article (not just disambiguation pages) also includes that red link."

In other words -- a red link is fine on an disambiguation page when an article also includes the red link.

Agreed? (How could you disagree).

But you deleted the entry. Saying as your edit summary "Red link."

But in this case a red link is totally fine.

How can you read that first paragraph any other way??--2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227 (talk) 06:12, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What you just did was not helpful. Perhaps it was mean-spirited. It was very aggressive, and very unfriendly. It was not in the spirit of how editors should be. It does not do much to build an encylopedia when, after I point this out to you, and you have read the rule, you think you are uninvolved enough to do this .. and take this step, refusing the disambiguation page. Seriously? You did this rather than let an uinvolved editor make that call? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Temtchine

And you did it after I quoted the rule! On that talk page! Here -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft_talk:Temtchine

I'm sorry, but I don't think that is how a wikipedia editor should act. I think the act is bad judgment. You should have understood the rule. If you cannot understand it, and you are in a disagreement, you should let an uninvolved editor (no - not a friend who posts on your page) decide. This was not nice, and this will make me quit editing. Maybe you want to do that. --2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227 (talk) 06:23, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
