Rollback granted

Hi Darranc. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

• Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
• Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
• Rollback should never be used to edit war.
• If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
• Use common sense.

County Londonderry

Hi there. Can I ask why you are going around deleting all reference to County Londonderry from Wikipedia articles? The county is still very useful and while not a government body still very much in use as a geographic indicator. Canterbury Tail talk 12:24, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Canterbury Tail:, I don't think having the county in articles serves any purpose. I don't see Belfast, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, or similar for other articles. Usually the city and country is enough. I don't deny that it can be used as a geographic indicator (especially when the city isn't already mentioned), but with the city already mentioned, does it add anything to the article that the city doesn't already tell the reader? ~ Ablaze (talk) 12:39, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Unfortunately counties are sensitive things for Northern Ireland and in general Ireland related articles. I need to ask that if you're going to continue that you get consensus from the projects Wikiproject Northern Ireland or the Ireland MOS pages otherwise you may just find your edits being reverted by multiple editors. Additionally since to date you've only deleted County Londonderry it makes it look motivated by a dislike of the name in particular, which I'm assuming isn't actually the case, but some could read it that way. Additionally the reason you don't see it in the Belfast article opening sentence (it is clearly in the infobox though) is because Belfast is in two counties and would make for an awkward construction. Canterbury Tail talk 12:51, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

@Canterbury Tail:, in the edit I saw originally removing County Londonderry I reverted it in good faith and in turn my edit was reverted by the Admin stating it is not standard to name county, just town/city, unless disambiguation is needed. This led me down the path to fix this mistake when I saw a user making a lot of edits (about 200 in the past month) to articles adding County Londonderry to Derry, Northern Ireland.

I'm not motivated by a dislike of the name, I'm aware of WP:LDERRY and following the agreed guidelines. I was aware of the joint county for Belfast, but couldn't think of a better example in Northern Ireland as it seems like all the other cities except Derry border two counties (Lisburn and Newry) and Armagh, County Armagh wouldn't be the best example. Like Cork, County Cork or Dublin, County Dublin.

I also see now you are discussing this in Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Ireland-related articles#Northern Ireland and infoboxes where I will pick up this discussion. ~ Ablaze (talk) 13:22, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

I have no assumptions of bad faith in this interaction whatsoever, I personally think the counties should stay as they do in other UK articles. However whatever the consensus shows I'm comfortable with. I would also argue, despite Giant Snowman's comments, that it is fairly standard to mention the county in town/city articles. Summer time in Europe: Poland

I suspect you already know this, but just in case. By definition Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) = UTC+00 = Western European Time. Summer time in the UK is British Summer Time = UTC+01 = Western European Summer Time. At present, 'winter time' in Poland is Central European Time = UTC+01 and summer time is Central European Summer Time = UTC+02 (which is what Poland wants all year round, so your revert was correct in any case). --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 13:14, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

@John Maynard Friedman: I think I was too quick on the revert, and didn't fully remember the change when the popup window asked for reason for edit. I also think I forgot "not" and should have probably read: Poland is not +1 utc, but +2 utc. Anyhow, thanks for the note. My edit of List of Irish Poets

Darranc, I included my name in the List of Irish Poets because someone else has already put an article on me and my work up on Wikipedia. Therefore I think it is an oversight not to include me on the List of Irish Poets. THere is no conflict of interest here. @CiaranODriscoll: As per WP:BESTCOI under the Don't edit articles section, it would be better to request an edit to add your name to the list rather than do it yourself. The list you added yourself to is one for notable Irish poets, and while you may be one that deserves inclusion, you shouldn't be making that decision and edit. You are already included in the Category:Irish poets. I suggest you make a request on the talk page and someone can review and add you name to the list. ~ Ablaze (talk) 06:33, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
