Thanks for uploading File:VCU Fight Song.ogg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. November 2010[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried (03:36, 25 March 2010 ) to give Medical College of Virginia a different title (VCU Medical Center) by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. VCU edits[edit]

Hello. I recently made a lot of changes to VCU in order to conform it with Wikipedia policies. I have cited some of these policies in the edit summaries and will try to elaborate briefly below since I know you are a newer editor to Wikipedia, but it is important that you seek out understanding before reverting edits, as this could result in being blocked.

  • The History list was changed to prose (it wasn't deleted, just changed in format) per WP:EMBED and in conformance with the History sections of University Featured Articles (U-FAs) -- check out these FAs to get an idea of what Wikipedia shoots for in format and quality
  • "Ph.D." (etc.) removed per WP:CREDENTIAL
  • Extant coverage of VCU Expansion removed per WP:NOT. As I said in the edit summary, a brief remark about an expansion with a link to more information may be suitable, but that is all.
  • The individual rankings were removed since (1) they were outdated and (2) they had no reliable source to support them. They could be reintegrated (but as prose, not a list) if supporting information can be found. (By the way, why did you attempt to remove the standard rankings table? That constitutes vandalism.)

I hope this helps. Like I said, please seek out clarification if needed and read up on WP:POLICY, but sweeping reverts do not help. Here's hoping to work together to improve the article. Cheers —Eustress talk 01:06, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your insight on helping me make this more within the guidelines of wikipedia. I have been working on the VCU wiki page for a long time and was curious with the extent of the edits but understand now. I didn't mean to delete the University rankings and actually like that it was put in there. Thanks for finding that information. I will add a small section of the expansion for VCU and a VCU 2020 individual page. I do want to ask though why the history timeline had to be removed? I understand that it is best to go to prose when you can but the timeline makes it a lot easier to read than the paragraphs of history. I also want to ask you about the individual rankings? The individual rankings can be found at http://www.vcu.edu/ranking/ I'm glad you wrote me and gave me an explanation of what was going on. There hasn't been a lot of edits on this page for a long time and to have a large amount of edits in one day took me back. I look forward to working on this page with you. I think you may benefit from reading WP:UNIGUIDE, a set of MOS addenda created by WP:UNI. Prose is preferred to a list in the case of a History timeline since timeline bullets lack context. My reformatting didn't help with context much -- a lot of work still needed on VCU History -- but now it's primed for contextualization. Regarding the individual rankings, we need a reliable source; i.e., from an independent, third party -- not from VCU. They also need to be in prose and not list. Since no verifiable and valid sources were listed, best to leave out for now.
