{{helpme}} I am the original author of the Pete Worden page. He is my colleague and I was putting a page about him together in my user subpage. It is my first page construction, and I _thought_ this was the way to do it: Build it in my user subpage, and when I'm happy with it, move it into the real wikipedia. I took the Mike Griffin page as a starting point (Mike runs NASA, Pete runs NASA Ames) and started replacing the information about Mike with information about Pete. Halfway through this process, Styrofoam1994 "took" the partially completed page from my user area and put it into the public area - possibly to get credit for creating an article in some kind of a race? Unfortunately, they did not fact check the information. I was only half done with the initial creation, and the page they "took" from my user area and posted publicly was half filled with information copied from the Mike Griffin page, but which was patently nonsensical to have on the Pete Worden page. When I found my half-completed embarassingly erroneus page posted in the public area, I attempted to boldy edit it into shape. But my edits are being reverted, I am being accused of vandalism and being threatened with being blocked. How dissapointing. Can someone who is familiar with the ways of wikipedia help me out?

I'm sorry to see how your edits were misunderstood and you got unfair warnings. I have posted to Styrofoam1994 [1] that your work should not be copied without credit. Copying it from your userspace with credit is allowed, but it was premature in this case. It appears the editors who reverted you have now understood the situation. Tomorrow I will suggest they retract their warnings if they haven't done it by themselves. The GFDL also applies in user space. Your own copying [2] from Michael D. Griffin was not ideal. It said "testing based on Mike Griffin", but Mike Griffin is a redirect to Michael Griffin (which lists Michael D. Griffin and many others). When you copy content from other pages, please give a link to the source in order to satisfy the GFDL. Working on a new article on a user subpage is a correct approach, but note that Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons also applies in user space. I haven't examined User:Creonlevit/Pete Worden to see whether it has contained violations (for example by implying that things about Michael Griffin are about Pete Worden or vice versa). In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. At PrimeHunter's suggestion, I have placed the text of the deleted article for your use at User:Creonlevit/Pete Worden 2‎. Work on the article though at User:Creonlevit/Pete Worden. If you made all the content and don't want to keep the page history (which may be confusing in this case) then you can also copy the source to a new article without mentioning the original page. But for GFDL reasons it should not be copied this way if others have made substantial contributions to the copied content. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:00, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
