Student groups added to {{Cornell}}

I'm concerned that, with an increasing number of student organizations being added to the {{Cornell}} template, at some point in the future they could end up swamping the template, especially as I could totally see this thing snowballing ("Banghra has a Wikipedia page?! Well, I can think of a few reasons why the Dairy Club/The Quad/the Big Red Band is notable for a Wikipedia entry too!"). While those organizations should have articles if they're notable enough -- a lot of these groups have long, long histories -- at a certain point, we should probably consider a method of breaking student groups out into smaller groups.

One such method might be to create sub-templates that serve as hubs. For instance, instead of listing all of the newspapers at Cornell, there could simply be a link that says "Student publications" which leads to {{Cornell-pubs}}. At that template page, there could be a brief <noinclude>d intro, something along the lines of "Cornell University students produce numerous periodic publications, including 6 newspapers, 4 literary magazines, and 1 satire magazine. Use the template below to navigate the individual articles for those publications." There might be better solutions to the ballooning of student organizations in the template, but pretty soon we're going to need one solution or another. I understood this when I started expanding the Cornell template, and figure that this is what we should do. Create a new page for Cornell Student Activities which goes into more detail about what students do at Cornell, and link from it on the main page as we have with mainarticle. I think this page ought to be the hub for everything students do, and include a second template, similar to the main Cornell one, with links to each of the Cornell Student Activities pages. These pages can be clubs, newspapers, a capella groups (we ought to get rid of the Cornell a capella template, we're broadening in scope here), etc. I also want to expand upon fraternity and sorority life at Cornell. There are two issues that may need addressing. First, pages like Cornell a cappella groups might get tagged pretty quickly as almamatercruft because, while individual groups might have claims to notability, there's not much to say about the a cappella "scene" at Cornell as a whole (that wouldn't be original research). I still think it's a good idea; I'm simply worried about hurdles to its implementation. That's why I was suggesting the workaround of putting a brief explanatory blurb on the template pages.

The second problem is one of layout: the templates are simply too big to include both on the articles about student activities. For instance, at Cayuga's Waiters, both the {{Cornell}} and {{Cornell-aca}} templates are on the page, and they take up most of the article. I propose the following solution: we generate templates by category for each sub-grouping (one for pubs, keep the one for a cappella groups), and then generate a sort of {{Cornell-lite}} template. This template would be a streamlined template specifically built for student org pages, and would have three lines: the first, Cornell's seal and name, linking to Cornell University, the second listing the other broad activity categories (either linking to the articles created for each sub-section, via your method, or if yours cannot be implemented, the blurbed templates, via mine), and the third listing the broader navigation sections that are currently in {{Cornell}}, but not its sub-parts. So, for instance, The Waiters would have Cornell-aca, and then below that would be:

... thus giving more than enough content to navigate amongst the various sections without filling up 80% of the article with Big Red Rectangles. Cornell University peer review

I saw a comment of yours asking whether the article is ready for FAC. At the moment, I am not sure about that (given the nature of university articles and the tendency of people, especially current students and alumni, to add only positive characteristics or pure insults to such articles). There have to be no significant "actionable objections." That means if somebody objects, it has to be really minor, or fixed, or unfixable. Raul654 is the admin director of the FA system and he has the final say in everything. Hi. I got caught by something like this myself not too long ago. We can see at the NAIC mission page that they are actually a cooperation between the NSF and Cornell University, meaning that their images are not automatically public domain as if they had come directly from the NSF. Yes, many, including myself during the school year. The problem is that Arecibo is located in Puerto Rico, and inaccessible to the public. Know anybody with a camera who lives near Puerto Rico? Check out the attribution -- credit goes to NAIC, Cornell and the NSF. I think we should believe NAIC when they say that they can license their images for non-commercial use only; shared credit with a gov't department isn't enough to make it work by a gov't agent in the performance of their duties. SA Resolution

Hello- I am extemely offended by the insinuation that my edits to the Cornell wikipedia page were in any way biased. If anything, I was extremely purturbed to come accross the entry that I have been trying to edit as it originally was. If you are going to talk about that Resolution by the Student Assembly (which I don't find necessary as it has nothing to do with Cornell's history, or the Student Assembly's current or future initatives), then at least qualify it as what it was-- a very unique piece of legislation that PASSED with FLYING COLORS and set a tremendous precedent for other student governments across the country. I don't see what it has to do with the SA's money management, and don't recall that coming up at all during the last few months. Thanks for the detailed notes! About the nbsp problem, it seems like the last several times it has falsely been triggered it always due to the usage of "in" after a number, so I simply removed it. (RegExp.$1 alternatively will catch the thing that triggered the comment, by returning the first actual value in parentheses) About the headingthe problem, it seems like I'm the only one who hasn't been receiving the problem - see User talk:AndyZ#Javascript: "Headingthe". For some odd reason, some users seem to be receiving that comment incorrectly, while I never seem to get it when I use the script (my reviewing of the article doesn't show any headingthe comment). I saw that you deleted what I added regarding NRC ranking of Cornell. NRC ranking is the mosr regarded ranking in academia and is more respected than USNEWS or TIMES magazine. The last ranking was done in 1995 and is still the most recent one. As you could see, Cornell rank in NRC is better than its rank in USNEWS, so I thought to add it to the ranking section. Of course, you could edit that section, but please keep it there as it shows academic ranking of us as well as ranking of most Enginnering Departments (surprisingly, many of our departments rank better than the whole college of Engineering).
