Use of commas in dates[edit]

I don't see anywhere else in Wikipedia where this system is being implimented. And in case you didn't read this website's Manual of Style, it isn't necessary to put commas after dates. I know you're a copy editor, but this book doesn't define Wikipedia style and some of it's "rules" that are in it, but not on wikipedia, shouldn't be followed. Even the wikipedia article you showed me said that the book had only a limited number of followers. --NcSchu 15:15, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trinity Pic[edit]

Hello,

Thank you for redirecting the Guilford Rail System and Guilford Transportation Industries pages to new pages for Pan Am Railways and Pan Am Systems, respectively. I've been wanting to do that, but I'm still a newbie and wasn't sure how.

Is there a "Wikipedia For Dummies" book available?  ;-) That's what I need!

A few comments[edit]

Hi Clipper471. We may or may not have interacted in the past, but whenever I see your name on an NBA or San Antonio Spurs related edit, I never have to check it, because I know you are very knowledgable in those subjects, and always have great edits to improve the encyclopedia. However, your recent edit wars with Downwards (Talk|contribs) have been very disconcerting. I understand that you feel he has violated a few Wikipedia guidelines, including NPA and 3RR, but I remind you that it takes at least two to edit war. In the future, I hope the two of you can work out your differences on the article talk pages, or at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association. Edit wars are unproductive for many reasons, including that they cloud page histories, create bad feelings between editors, and take up huge amounts of time from otherwise very productive editors. Thanks for your understanding, and I hope you and Downwards can get along better in the future; having you blocked is a major detriment to the quality of the encyclopedia. Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Cheers, EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 22:28, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking at your edits to Alamo Bowl, and I was very impressed. However, what concerns me is that all other bowl game articles are listed by Winning Team/Losing Team, and without ranks. I was wondering if you were planning to do this for other bowls. If so, great, but if not, I'll have to revert your for consistency's sake. Edit summary[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. --Geniac 16:36, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lord & Taylor[edit]

Hello. I'm very sorry that your edits to Lord & Taylor became collateral damage in the huge revert I had to do the other day. I was aware that some likely legitimate edits would be undone; but unfortunately another well intentioned editor, in an attempt to get the article to a version before the vandalism started, reverted all the citations and manual of style changes I had put into the Current stores section. Since there are no citations for the Former stores section, I really have no way to tell what's fact and what's fiction anyway so I have no real basis to pick and choose which edits to keep or delete down there. If you have a reference for the former stores section, could you please cite it, or -if it's online- share it with me and I'll cite it myself? Thanks so much for helping out on the article, and again please accept my apologies for deleting your edits along with the rest the other day. --Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 15:55, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Whole Foods Market References[edit]

Thanks so much for cleaning up the references in the Whole Foods Market entry. Not sure if you've seen my introduction on the Whole Foods talk page, but I work for Whole Foods and am trying to very carefully provide information to ensure that our Wiki entry is accurate. I'm working mostly through the Talk page because I don't want to go in and make edits myself without hearing from the Wiki community first. Since you were doing so much clean up on the references, I wanted to see if you knew any references for the section titled "Distribution." I can't find any references listed for this section. It started out as a fairly innocuous statement but has evolved over the past few months to be 1) untrue and 2) biased. If there are no references for this, shouldn't it simply be removed? I really appreciate your help in guiding me through the Wiki procedures. Thanks, BradyWFM 14:20, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response to Link removal[edit]

Hi Clipper471, The TWA spirit (PaulRichterTWAlegend) site is pure history from TWA records, publications, sound recordings... all referenced by TWA historians and those that were present at the time. The purpose is purely historical. I would really appreciate your review of the site. The new domain TWAspirit.com will have more depth of facts on TWA people and planes of the 20s, 30s, and 40s. It is not like other links that are promotional, selling products or personal opinion and referenced to writers of recent years and flawed press reports. Originally it was removed because of a petty dispute by 'Sedonalegend' when his multi-links were removed. He is promoting a book of fiction and fantasy, mixing semi-facts, gross inaccuracies with 'peacock terms and 'weasel words'. He said he had started my websites which is true. It had to be completely rewritten. And it was necessary to disassociate with him due to his skewing of information and refusal to use facts. Thanks for you editing expertise. I'm a novice and hope to become a better Wiki-ite. Av8er 02:40, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trader Joe's Reference[edit]

Why did you recently deleted the "Retrieved on" date in my Supermarket News reference? The "2006 Top 75 North American Food Retailers" article was first written on about April 2006. I wanted to distinguish that date with when I referenced it, December 22. Other references in Trader Joe's article has Retrieved on date. War17 22:36, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You added references to Consumer Report, neither of which say much about why Trader Joe's is the better store or why it was selected second. What criteria was measured? Here is a better link http://www.thedenenbergreport.org/article.php?index=905. I suggest using this latter, more informative link than the other two links. War17 19:14, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alamo Bowl[edit]

Hello Clipper, I put the {{inuse}} template on the 2006 Alamo Bowl because I was going to do some updates, but then I noticed you updated the score. Do you have more to add right now? If so, then I will hold off to avoid edit conflicts. Best, Johntex\talk 02:21, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Clipper - I'll add a bit more for tonight as I watch Georgia vs Virginia Tech. Johntex\talk 02:28, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Clipper - thanks for your note. According to ESPN, it is a city-wide record for a sporting event. In other words, this was the most people ever to gather in San Anotonio for a sporting event. Does that match with your sources? It seems like the Pope's appearance would not be a conflict with the sporting-event record. Johntex\talk 04:13, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Clipper - thank you. The mistake was mine, not ESPN's. They had it right but I overly simplified the record when I put it in. I'll make sure in the 2006 Alamo Bowl to say it was a record attendance for a sporting event in San Antonio. Best, Johntex\talk 04:26, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trader Joe's Locations[edit]

Why did you reduce the number of stores that I listed opened from 12 to 6 stores? Those 12 stores are accurate and range from late August through Decmeber. 2006. War17 (talkcontribs) 18:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge question[edit]

Would it not be better to merge and redirect Pan American Airways (1998-2004) and Pan American Airways (1996-1998) into the main article about Pan American World Airways? Ordinarily, I'd just go ahead and do it, but I am always hesitant to make major changes to articles that have FA status. Thanks. Jeffpw 11:45, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sale of Pan Am logo to GTI[edit]

I don't understand why you removed my single paragraph in the history section about the sale of the Pan Am brand to Guilford Transportation Industries. Don't you think the fate of the Pan Am's world famous colors and logo are a relevant historical note in the companies history? You are doing the Wikipedia community a diservice by editing out historical facts relevant to this company just because you don't think they are important. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 63.66.112.5 (talk) 15:21, 23 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

While I was not aware of the interim company, Pan American Airways (1996-1998), i think your claim that these companies are "unrelated" is debatable. The insignia and colors of Pan American World Airways brand are a hugely famous - arguably as famous as the company itself. The Pan American World Airways article should explain the fate of such famous logo as it was a coveted asset. The Pan American World Airways article gives zero explaination as to why there are trains running around in 2007 with the Pam Am World Airways logo emblazoned on them, and it is that lack of explaination that I was attempting to gap. This logo sale deserves some kind of mention, as I suspect many people will google Pam Am to find out about the blue Pan Am trains that are appearing. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.192.47.145 (talk) 13:37, 24 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Spurs[edit]

Actually you're dead wrong, the rule was changed more than fifteen years ago and hasn't changed since. It states that .3 seconds is the minimum time needed to get off a catch and shoot (they had .4). It's called the Trent Tucker Rule look it up and he got the shot off in time according to replays, it was just pure luck. Find one source that says the shot wasn't released in time. It was and there was no controversy I ever heard of. Quadzilla99 01:11, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted it because you only added it to my talk page after I added this warning to yours. Every single replay shows the shot was good there is no controversy. Originally the Spurs didn't believe it but they didn't have the benefit of replay. I've provided sources from nba.com and washingtonpost.com which say in plain language the shot was released in time. No one reliable source disputes this, hence no controversy. Quadzilla99 02:02, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

North Texas, also IMAX claim in San Antonio article[edit]

What's wrong with further disambiguating by providing a link to both the region and state articles?

Also, ..

and a 19-screen movie theater with an IMAX screen, the city's second IMAX and the country's only community theater with an IMAX screen.

Is in the San Antonio article, under the "Northwest" heading under "Districts - Zones - Communities". What exactly is a community theater? There are several "multiplexes" like Cinemark and AMC and such that have an IMAX theater attached. Fair use rationale for Image:Lubys.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Lubys.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of Gerland's[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Gerland's, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Gerland's is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Gerland's, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Strawbridge's[edit]

Hello, Clipper! About a year ago, you helped me with a vandal who was vandalizing the Lord & Taylor page on Wikipedia. Eventually, I found citations for ALL of the content on the page that was being vandalized, and we were able to warn, and eventually block, the user for vandalism. Another similar vandal (possibly the same) one is now vandalizing the Strawbridge's page. I have cited sources today for the content in which the vandal keeps changing. If you don't mind, please add Strawbridge's to your watch list, and the next time you see an edit by 72.82.198.160 and it appears to be vandalism, please report it so the vandal can be warned again and eventually blocked. I have warned the vandal twice before but the material wasn't cited until today so technically it was my word against theirs. I am planning on finding citations for the entire article in the next week or so, but at least for now the material being vandalized is cited.

If you can think of any other tips or suggestions, please let me know. Thank you so much!

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Timeline of airline bankruptcies, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Logo BILO.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo BILO.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 01:40, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of List of shopping malls in the United States[edit]

An editor has nominated List of shopping malls in the United States, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of shopping malls in the United States (3rd nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 22:02, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Randalls.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Randalls.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

File source problem with File:Joskes alamo street late 1800s.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Joskes alamo street late 1800s.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:25, 8 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Pan Am Flight 125, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ...William 16:56, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
