September 2022[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 13:36, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Greetings fellow Wikipedia user. I'm going to once again explain this misunderstanding, hopefully achieving to clarify your views on me. :I'm doing my work in Wikipedia as part of my free time, whenever I have a break from my naval engineering bachelor degree. I am interested in boating, maritime equipment and everything that has to do with naval engineering in general, so I decided to apply for a job in the naval industry while I study. :When making my researchs I have found extreme difficulty in obtaining decent quality images regarding many maritime related products, such as fenders, that were on free and public domain, such as licensed under the Creative Commons license, so I decided to make as an university project to provide to the internet as many high quality pictures regarding my futur profession (naval engineer) as I have access to a lot of material from the warehouse of my company. :I understand that it can be alarming and upsetting to wikipedia users who haven't tried to talk to me prior to the complete removal of my work, but the reason why my content appears to be "promotional" is that simple. I can't remove the logo badges in my work in order to take a photo and then buy a new one, but I don't think that showcasing a logo of a company that recycles maritime equipment on such equipment should be upsetting. If you told me instead that I'm putting a Microsoft logo or an Apple logo on some fenders, I would understand the inquiries, but this is certainly not the case. :If I find material without logos, or if I find a work on another company, I will very happily keep uploading content with either no logos or a wide variety of logos, but for now it is hard for me to get permission to take photographies inside other maritime equipment providers. :Regarding my username: I thougt that it would make sense that a Wikipedia user named Castle Hills uploads equipment recycled in a company with the same name in which he works. But I understand that it can lead to misunderstanding. :If you have any other doubt, inquiry, or suggestion, leave it in my user page. :Thank you for reading. Decline reason:

Declined from lack of response. I would also append to Michael's correct points, that you say that no-one attempted to talk to you before removing, but I also can't see any indication you attempted to communicate after receiving warnings to stop uploading - or any mention on why you didn't stop trying to upload until you'd resolved the issue. That lack of communciativeness is, itself, a concern Nosebagbear (talk) 22:33, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I have moved your unblock request, as new talk page postings should be placed at the bottom. This is so that discussions appear in their correct chronological order. An administrator will review your block request when time permits. Thank you. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:37, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Castle Hills AS, to avoid all concerns about promotional issues you should apply to change your username to something unassociated with the company for whom you work. Uploading of hard-to-acquire images of maritime-related products is fine, and very welcome, but before doing so you should use Photoshop or similar software to blur-out the company name and logo. As required by the COI guidelines, you must avoid writing about your company's business (which includes not mentioning them by name, either in text or in image captions). I'm not an admin here, so I can't directly deal with your unblock request, but if you agree and confirm that your intent is to add neutral information about maritime products, recycling or whatever, then you'll have a good chance of being unblocked. Specialist editors such as you are very welcome, and I'm sure there won't be any issues once you've reviewed the various guidelines mentioned. MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:12, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
