WikiProject Christianity Newsletter[edit]

Hello again. The Highly Active Users project has gone through a complete revamping per popular demand. We believe this new format will make it easier for new editors to find assistance. However, with the new format, I must again ask you to verify your information on this page. I attempted to translate the data from the old version to the new, but with the extensive changes, I may have made some errors. Thanks again. Useight (talk) 03:57, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HI, do you think that an article titled Possible consequences of Axis victory in World War II can be created? Is there sources available? Or is the topic has been researched among academia? Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 01:21, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The E=mc² Barnstar
For creating an absolutely unbelievable number of stubs about asteroids, I, J.delanoygabsadds, hereby award you the EMC² Barnstar for your contributions. J.delanoygabsadds 04:06, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You deserve it. Some may argue that your articles are un-expandable dead ends, but that is what they said when a bot created stubs about various towns in the United States in 2003, and most of those have been expanded. J.delanoygabsadds 04:11, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of 24104 Vinissac[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article 24104 Vinissac, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Stifle (talk) 22:45, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Prod tagging of 24104 Vinissac[edit]

Hello. I have removed the prod tag on 24104 Vinissac. Asteroid are inherently notable and articles about asteroid are within the inclusion criteria. The name of this asteroid appears in various Wikipedia articles such as Meanings of asteroid names (24001-25000), List of asteroids/24101–24200, and List of named asteroids (S-V). Articles on this same asteroid exist on the Polish, Portuguese, and Italian Wikipedias. 24104 Vinissac also appears in various external sources such as the Jet Propulsion Lab's asteroid database, Harvard's List of minor planet names, and Harvard's list of discovery locations. If you have any questions, please ask them to me whenever you wish. Captain panda 23:01, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would have to disagree that asteroids are inherently notable. I'll be nominating some for AFD in the near future. Stifle (talk) 23:09, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How?[edit]

How are you creating so many stubs that quickly? Cheers, Razorflame Report false positives 22:09, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replied on my talk page. Razorflame Report false positives 22:18, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Because of the sheer amount of pages that need to be classified, I've started classifying them using AWB. I have it find and replace the template with the same template, only with the |class=stub at the end...I've so far classified 113 articles this way (I'm avoiding the lower asteroid numbers as they have a higher chance of not being stubs. I am pretty sure that most of the articles that I am classifying in this fashion are stub-class articles, but if you notice that I put it on an article that isn't a stub, please feel free to revert my change. Cheers, Razorflame 23:07, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Invisible Barnstar
For expanding the Wikipedia universe by creating and updating a lot of comet related articles, I award you this well earned invisible barnstar! Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 21:14, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have seen you creating a lot of articles on asteroids, and for most i have been "Dully Noticing" them. However as i keep seeing them, and your edit history displays you put quite a lot of work in this, i think its no less then appropriate to award you a barnstar for this good work. Congratulations, and keep up the good work! Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 21:14, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you![edit]

Thank you for the barnstar! I enjoy it! :) Captain panda 21:16, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Asteroid articles[edit]

Hi - I don't understand the point of the asteroid stubs you're creating. Aren't these articles pretty much guaranteed to stay stubs, in pretty much their current form, effectively forever? Slightly above you claim asteroids are inherently notable. Is there some policy you could cite to back this up? Is there some wider forum in which you'd be willing to discuss this, perhaps Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astronomy? There's already some discussion there about this, suggesting listing most asteroids in tables would be a better approach. I'd tend to agree with this. -- Rick Block (talk) 00:52, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've started a thread at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astronomy#Asteroid articles. -- Rick Block (talk) 02:28, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The thread is now at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astronomical objects#Asteroid articles. -- Rick Block (talk) 03:35, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do look at the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astronomical objects#Asteroid articles. There is a plan afoot that will logically end with most of your articles getting deleted, I am afraid. I am for it, but you should have a chance to weigh in for sure. Maybe you can make suggestions that would improve the outcome, or point out issues we have not considered. Best, Wwheaton (talk) 19:25, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw your note on Rick's page, and apologize for causing problems. I don't see any necessity for deleting the articles you added, myself; and some will surely be expanded. I can see how some of admins worry about them becoming targets for vandalism, but we can wait and see how much of a problem that is. With any luck we will come out of this better off than when you started work, anyhow. Best, Bill Wwheaton (talk) 03:22, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lest there's any confusion here, the point is distinctly not to delete anything you've done, but simply to make the information available in a form that's easier to maintain. I know (from personal experience - see Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/Gappei) how much effort is involved in editing thousands of articles. If we can put the same information content in a few (perhaps a few dozen) list articles, preserving access through redirects, aren't we tremendously better off? -- Rick Block (talk) 04:28, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CP - for future reference, buildings and structures get {{struct-stub}} or one of its subtypes (in this case {{Massachusetts-struct-stub}}). Also, geography stubs are normally {{geo-stub}}, not {{place-stub}} (which is an old redirect that shouldn't really still be in use). Having said that, thanks for helping sort the stubs - keep up the good work :) Grutness...wha? 01:47, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 17:44, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding and removing blank lines[edit]

Please forgive my ignorance, but what's the point of your edits to Simeon López and George Gabb? In the former you added a blank line; in the latter, you deleted one. Neither has changed the appearance of the article as far as I can tell. DO56 (talk) 20:53, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to the above comment, could you read the rules of use before you make any more edits like this with AWB. Thanks EP 02:35, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Typo redirect BLP: Nasser Rashidi[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on BLP: Nasser Rashidi, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because BLP: Nasser Rashidi is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting BLP: Nasser Rashidi, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of 44479 Olaheszter, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: 44479 Oláheszter. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. WP:HAU, Status, and you![edit]

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible) system - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:45, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

Hello! I'm a tiny, innocent newbie come to you for help. Could you tell me how to change the name of an article? If you would rather show me than tell me, I have a sandbox just waiting to be edited. Thank you very much. Lordofmodesty (talk) 01:08, 15 July 2008 (UTC) Oh, haha, maybe it's that tab at the top that says "rename this page." I feel like I should be trout-slapped. Thanks anyway for the potential help. Lordofmodesty (talk) 01:18, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Odd hacker vandalism on Halo 2 article[edit]

the article for Halo 2 has odd vandalism that only shows up if you are'nt logged in, this appears to be the work of a hacker or script kiddie, rather than a normal vandal. it also isn't in the revision history.

forgot to sign my post SMakabwe (talk) 22:15, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way I came to you because I couldn't figure out what kind of admin to report something like this to, and any comments that tell me the proper channels for future reference would be helpful. SMakabwe (talk) 22:21, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry didn't log on to the internet for a while, it is fixed now. Someone else must have fixed before you checked, as you couldn't miss it. Huge Picture with the hackers presumed nickname with a large symbol that took almost the entire screen. The text from the article was almost completely gone, everything but the title and sidebar. I hope the fixed the server to be more secure, and they probably did make, as it obviously wasn't done with the editing tools built into wikipedia. Thanks for checking anyway. 144.96.23.26 (talk) 01:33, 21 July 2008 (UTC) Above post was mine, I guess I didn't log back in after checking if the vandalism was still there.
