August 2017[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Keith J. Krach, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:49, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Birth dates[edit]

Hi, CanoeUnlined, and welcome to Wikipedia! Ryan Reynolds' birth date actually is cited under "Early life," and I'll find out for David Fincher. Birth dates (and birthplace, middle/full names, parents, siblings, educational claims) are all personal-life details that per WP:BLP need to be reliably cited. (IMDb, like other wikia, is not allowed as a reference citation.) There are probably a couple hundred thousand biographical articles on Wikipedia, many with errors, violations and uncited claims of all sorts. It'll take us a while to get to them all, but in the meantime, especially with biographies of living people, we need to do everything we can to get personal details right. I find Biography.com, FilmReference.com and AllMusic.com to be good RS sources for birth dates and birthplaces (although AllMovie.com's bio details are user-generated and so not-RS). Thanks for understanding and for contributing! --Tenebrae (talk) 16:44, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

i appreciate your response to my note on your Talk page, Tenebrae. definitely appreciate the guidance on where to find good sources for birthdays. i'm going to do some digging for Tim Miller (director) and will provide adequate sourcing if i find it. Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, CanoeUnlined. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Keith J. Krach, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. I can't help but wonder whether you got paid for this article. If you didn't, you should have been. Drmies (talk) 21:33, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message[edit]

Hello, CanoeUnlined. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
