Feeling welcome on WP!

This morning I went to the page Swans_(magazine) to check whether I had a response from Egonon (talk) to the message I posted in the discussion page. There was one. When I logged on and click on the Edit tab, I discovered that an admin had blocked me until March 3, 2010. The cause for the block? "Vandalism." Imagine my bewilderment!

So, I went to the discussion page of the Admin who blocked me: Toddst1 (talk) and politely asked the following:

Open Quote May I ask the reason you have blocked me until early March for alleged cause of "vandalism"? To the best of my knowledge, I haven't edited any English page in more than 10 days. And the one to which I have contributed, I did it mostly through the discussion page. I would appreciate it if you could explain to me -- a newbie -- what I have possibly done wrong or incorrectly. Thank you. Regards. Bouziguepeuchere (talk) 18:47, 24 February 2010 (UTC) End quote [reply]

Did not get an answer yet, though the block has been removed!!! Talk about being bewildered. I wish I could get some kind of explanation. Bouziguepeuchere (talk) 20:20, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Never blocked[edit]

The user Bouziguepeuchere (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)has never been blocked. Perhaps the IP address you were using was previously used by a vandal and the IP address was blocked. Toddst1 (talk) 21:15, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Toddst1. Thank you for your short answer. Indeed it was the IP address that was (you) blocked. Problem is I connect to the Net through satellite (HughesNet) and I'm being assigned an IP address automatically, which must certainly be shared at random. It seems to me that it is incumbent upon the administrative blocker to verify that the user who is using an IP address that is not his own be checked on his own merits before blocking him for no fault of his. Anyway, at least this entire boo-boo has served me well: I created my user and talk pages, and dug further into the amazing world of WP. Live and learn! Still, I happen to have a full-time job (lucky me) and can't spend hours and days learning about WP. It'd be useful to try to investigate ways to avoid a user being castigated due to something (like an automatically assigned IP address) not of his or her own making. Thanks for your time.
