I am editing a Wikipedia page for a University assignment, my topic is Chronicles of Barsetshire

Missing cite in Chronicles of Barsetshire

The article cites "Ousby 1995" but no such source is listed in the bibliography. Can you please add? Also, suggest installing a script to highlight such errors in the future. All you need to do is copy and paste importScript('User:Svick/HarvErrors.js'); // Backlink: [[User:Svick/HarvErrors.js]] to your common.js page. Thanks, Renata (talk) 14:29, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Renata, thanks so much for your input. The 'Ousby 1995' reference was used by the previous editor of this page. I have tried to find the citations but couldn't seem to find it, so have replaced that reference with a source which provides the same information. Regarding your suggestions to upload the script to my common.js, I am fairly new on Wikipedia so am not exactly sure how to do this. I attempted to add the code to my User page, but it didn't seem right. Any advice would be much appreciated BjL1504 (talk) 02:58, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

I notice that you made this edit, followed by this edit, to your user page. Hi Oshwah, thanks so much for your offer. I was trying to respond to the comment above, which suggested I add the given script to my common.js page. I am not entirely sure what a common.js page is, and when I attempted to add the script onto it, nothing really seemed to happy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Sure, I'll be happy to help. Your common.js page is simply a subpage of your user page (User:BjL1504), which is located at User:BjL1504/common.js. I happen to be an interface administrator, which allows me to edit the .js pages of other users in order to help them. :-) I went ahead and added that script for you so that you can see exactly what you need to do in the future if you wish to add more. There are a number of .js pages; if you go to your preferences and click on the "appearance" tab, at the top, you'll see a number of different skins that you can choose from that change how Wikipedia looks to you (the default is "vector"). For each skin that's available, there's also a .js page with that same name that you can put scripts into (for example. User:BjL1504/vector.js). If you put a skin into your "vector.js" page, that script will only work while you're using that skin. The "common.js" page allows you to put scripts in that will work for any skin that you use. That's how they work in a nutshell. :-) If you have any more questions, or if you need help with anything, please don't hesitate to let me know.
