spam[edit]

It is not acceptable to spam links to your own web page into a bunch of articles. Because you have done it so often and have reverted to put the links back after they were removed, this may be the only warning you get before being blocked. Looie496 (talk) 05:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Looie: How do you suggest the sharing of new information and publications that are essential to the related topics? I am not aquainted with this process; but when you pose credible references as spam, you are functioning within a defeatist structure. I have followed every process that I am aware of in the sharing of new information -- how you manipulate this attempt at communication reflects on Wikipedia.

I was given the impression that Wikipedia was seeking information that would enhance the content and global knowledge base, perhaps I was wrong. If you took the time to "think" about the content that my references relate to, then you may realize that in your "technical" actions, you have degraded the potential of Wikipedia as a "professional" platform.

Perhaps I have missed something -- but if so, you should have educated me to the process rather than suggesting intentional wrongdoing. I would like to understand more, please feel free to email me directly at tom@bishopclinics.com.

For the benefit of Wikipedia, I ask that that you submit this response to the next two (2) levels of supervision over yourself. Thank You.

Thanks for the calm reply. Adding links to external websites is very strongly controlled, because there are tons of people who feel an irresistable urge to put in links to their own pages; see wp:el for more information. Also, personal web pages don't count as reliable sources for Wikipedia, because there is no systematic quality control for them. If you feel that the web site you linked adds something really essential to some article, I suggest that you explain why on the talk page of that article -- pick one article to start with, and get consensus before adding the link.
If you want to complain about me, the place to do it is wp:ani. But I encourage you to learn more about how Wikipedia works first, because if you go there, you will probably find that everybody you encounter will approve of the way I have handled this, and it will only frustrate you.
