Orphaned non-free media (Image:Oncewebimage.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Oncewebimage.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Good thing I caught you. First and foremost, you should read WP:COI and Wikipedia:SCOIC. Next, explore WP:GLAM and what is happening at WP:GLAM/BM and WP:GLAM/SI. Though you are not from within in the community reaching out to the museum, but rather a gallery reaching out to the community, it is best to understand what types of relationships the community likes with GLAM organizations. Next, figure out what exactly you plan to do on Wikipedia and write a Conflict of Interest statement which lays out your connection to the museum and puts forward your purpose for being here. For some examples see User:Sadads#Declaration_of_Conflict_of_Interest and Talk:Timex_Group_USA#New_Comprehensive_Page_Content_in_Development. Yours should be on your User Page. Image license[edit]

It is only personal and non commercial reproduction, some of the work on the openhouse site is still within copy write which we have paid to use, with regards to this i would welcome any advice Benjamw (talk) 14:51, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am not an expert on that, but it seems to me that if you want to load some of the Personal-non-comercial stuff to Wikipedia under Fair-Use for articles discussing them, you could. However, that would be about the only context in which the images could be used. Our most restrictive image use license is the combination of CC-BY-SA and the GFDL.

Otherwise links to collections of images, digital portals, and other online resources you have are appropriate. However, if you are going to make links to text resources, unless it is a scholarly publication, I would suggest doing so within the context of a Foot-note reference and a meaningful factual improvement to the page, that way you are adding meaningful content to the page, instead of Spamming, which is what the other users thought you were doing. If someone reverts an edit and you don't think they have adequately justified the revert either bring it up on their talk page or on the talk page of the article and make a comment at Wikipedia talk:GLAM to ask someone to review the edits, or you can contact me :) Sadads (talk) 15:14, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some of these links, particularly for artist's works, are one of the classic cases where an EL is appropriate (and mentioned very clearly in WP:EL): that of content that's impossible to add to WP simply because of the copyright issue. Adding material[edit]

The best thing is to add material to the article - rewritten, not copied and pasted - and reference it. See WP:REFB. Just adding external links is highly problematic. See talk above and WP:BFAQ#LINK. FYI, The Ormside bowl article was created by WP:GLAM/BM during User:Wittylama's residence at the British Museum and was on the Wikipedia mainpage on July 5, 2010. Sadads (talk) 16:41, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
