Afd

Hello. There's no need to go through an afd to delete a temporary page like Christ the Redeemer (statue)/Temp, as you were the only contributor. You can tag it for speedy deletion by simply add {{db|Reason for deletion here}} and an admin will delete it. Reason given could be owner request and/or housekeeping, as it has to be a valid criteria as per WP:CSD. Regards, MartinRe 22:40, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

No worries. Afd's are confusing to set up, but they are only needed when a discussion is required before deletion, for simple uncontested deletes (like removing a temporary page when it's finished), you can use the above process. Regards, MartinRe 22:57, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Roupa-Nova.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. The photo is from a press kit the band had made available to the media through their official website. No photographer was credited and I see that the site has been redesigned since the time I posted it. Hi, Antiuser. Please, notice that having permission to use the image on Wikipedia is not enough. Consider asking them for to release a picture under a free licensing, like "Creative Commons Attribution" or "Creative Commons Attribution/Sharealike". Or, if you have some picture of them you took yourself, you could release it yourseld under a free licensing. Why is authorised use of the picture not enough? By my understanding, a press kit photo qualifies under fair use, since it was released by the artist's record label with the intent of promoting their work and image on the media. Even though I work as a designer and intellectual property issues frequently come up in my line of work, I find Wikipedia's policy regarding images very confusing... - antiuser 00:00, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Fair use and permissions

You stated in my talk page that obtaining permission from the copyright holder is not enough to use the image on Wikipedia. I feel an explanation on this matter is required. Is Wikipedia moving towards a "free images only" policy? Also, Wikipedia states that material obtained from a press kit qualifies as fair use in the absence of a free alternative. Thus, tagging an image that is already tagged as press material / fair use for deletion doesn't seem very coherent. - antiuser 00:12, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Material from press kits is ok under the fair use policy. What's not ok is "Wikipedia can use this image on it's website, but can't share this right with others." This comes from a ruling by Jimbo. The apparent "confusing" nature of Wikipedia's images policies may come from that fact that Wikipedia is not only trying to be legally safe, it's trying to build a free colletion of information (and unfree images are usually unwellcome). Thanks, this clears the permission matter up. However, I still think you're being unfair and indiscriminate with your mass-tagging of fair use images. While I understand your position and support a free Wikipedia, I believe fair use images serve a purpose and thus have their place in Wikipedia. When free alternatives of decent quality cannot be found, fair use material is allowed - as far as I know, that is still the rule. - antiuser 00:48, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

The image is orphaned because you removed it from the article. I believe it was pertinent to the article in question and no free images were available at the time the article was posted. As far as I know, fair use is still allowed on wikipedia despite your efforts to eradicate it. While I agree that fair use should be avoided, it serves a purpose and should not be banned outright. You seem to indiscriminately tag all fair use images for deletion. Out of respect for the way Wikipedia works, I am keeping your deletion nominations and not placing the images back on the articles. - antiuser 00:26, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
