My RFA[edit]

Updated DYK query You supported my candidacy in my recently completed request for adminship. The debated ended 40/4/1 and I'm now an administrator. I'd just like to say thanks for taking the time to consider me, and thanks for the confidence in me. I hope your confidence in me proves to be justified.

Regards, WilyD

What's wrong with Wikipedia: Part 20,365[edit]

I write a nice detailed plot summary for the novel Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul. You come along and delete it, rather than edit it, adding a badly spelled and ungrammatical explanation: "Long plot summarys could be considered a copyvio, sorry, but I gotta take it out. using TW)". I understand you're one of the people who's in charge. I find that scary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.135.161.8 (talkcontribs) 18:25, July 4, 2007

Ack, leader is scary. I am just sometimes a loud worker ant. A Wikiproject for this is a fantastic idea, and I really hope we can get some momentum behind it! Thanks for collaborating with me, I am really enjoying this!--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 01:06, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The question[edit]

Hm, do you mean anatomically, identificationally, professionally?--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 01:59, 2 June 2007 (UTC) Actually, all three tend to be the same. I am female, but have some pretty fluid definitions of gender and gender identity. I have often lamented my lack of penis at work, considering I sadly do experience discrimination based on my gender. Now, had you suspected me of being male or female before you asked?--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 02:06, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't particularly concerned :) The internet provides a particularly interesting way to relate to others, and I find it really cool to see how people's gender/gender identity come into play when contributing online, and whether they leave clues or remain ambiguous. My old psychology habits die pretty hard (that was my degree).--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 02:11, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Currently being processed by...[edit]

Just curious, if I see your name at the top, would you prefer I leave it to you to complete or continue with it if you have changed it back to Open?--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 19:25, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem, thanks for getting back to me. Just curious, did I say something to offend you earlier?--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 00:42, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My answer about gender, I just felt that maybe I had overstepped something. Hopefully I am completely mistaken!--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 01:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear. On another note, I think the WikiProject is gaining momentum! It's pretty cool to see that the recent submissions have a really high rate of review over the past few days!--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 01:06, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Aww...[edit]

Yes, I saw the result. I am very disappointed, and I truly thank you for your positive encouragement. I'll just use this time to keep working, and become a better editor, possibly being nominated for an RfA at a later time. hmwithtalk 04:13, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BJAODN submission[edit]

Here's the last revision from the author... just an IP address.

By Tirinz Smyife (street poet)
Born Terrence Smith in the western suburbs of Melbourne Australia in 1946.
Terrence worked as a public servent with the department of urban planning from 1954 to 2001, retiring at the age of 55 to take up his true love or "URBAN POETRY"

Terrence has used a years in local government to help him on his dark journey to the very heart and soul of what it is to be a youth on bad streets of melbourne.

'''I found you my leper lover.'''

I found you laying in the cold.
You looked so lovely, now not so old

I thought I saw you gaze at me,
But no, it was just your leprose

I found your ears right on the floor
I found your lips stuck to the door

Your right hand thumb, just flew right off
As did your nose, when you coughed

I found you, laying safe and sound
Except for the bits that were on the ground

'''Spank the monkey'''

Naughty boy, keeping me up at night.

You’re so rude as you stand straight up looking at me.

Naughty Naughty monkey.

Spank you, Spank you, Spank you.

'''Hanky Punky'''

You think you're great, but you are not.

In my pocket all covered in snot

Hanky panky pinky punk

If you weren't in my pocket, you'd just be junk

Why do you think you better than me

Hanky Panky Punky Pee

Chunky Monkey Spanky Kerplunk

You hanky panky pinky punk.

'''Requiem for the Morbidly Obese'''

I like pies...it's no surprise...straight to my thighs

I let out sighs...it's no disguise...when i see them with my eyes

I really like pies...sometimes with fries...they're my golden prize

Deletion review of Human body shape[edit]

[ about article "Human figure": this article falls in category aesthetics which i think its difficult for common man(like you, i assume default) to understand. It was deleted as per afd. and i dint wish to mess up "Human figure"(the term i respect) with scientific facts and hence dont ask for its revoke of deletion. im currently developing it User:Racky pt/test2, but you can forget it. ]
As for Human body shape which is purely scientific is got deleted- Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Human_body_shape. Kindly consider to review against these facts:

  • irrelevant discussion in afd: who created does not come under wikipedia:deletion policy. If you are deleting because someone created it then its violation of WP:POINT.
  • Human_physical_appearance covers nothing which was in human body shape. It is like a disambiguation page or list page.
  • Secondary sex characteristics is just part of human body shape, and the term is not searched by none but medical students, while body shape is searched 1000 times more. and this article wont explain fully.
  • .edu references in the article were deleted before nominating for afd. kindly review earlier version of article before edits by user:andyjsmith.
  • Article is notable
  • no alternative source exists in wikipedia. (i will give further explanation here if you demand.)
  • hence it does not come under any points of wikipedia:deletion policy.

kindly consider it as discussion before wikipedia:deletion review Thanks Racky pt 04:46, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I beleive it was deleted under criteria Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#G4 Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#G5. as for this Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#G4: please notice this: "If an article was deleted for lacking content or for having inappropriate content (this applies to most speedy deletions) and you wish to create a better article about the same subject, you can simply go ahead and do so, with no need for review." in Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Deletion_review Racky pt 06:46, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jackie Bushman[edit]

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Jackie Bushman, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but yours may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. 172.150.205.106 05:51, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What defines "consensus", is it a majority?[edit]

You asked: "What defines "consensus", is it a majority? That may lead to problems down the road if it isn't defined."[1] By my understanding, consensus means "everyone agrees" or at least "nobody is prepared to stand out and oppose". In the case of a block on an editor, it would probably mean "blocked by one or two admins with no admins prepared to unblock". In the case you were looking at [2] a "Community Sanction Noticeboard" was raised against the accused (me) and there was no consensus. However, the acrimony of the "debate"[3] led to the matter being put to ArbCom.[4] I think there are lots of very significant issues here, see my listing.[5] I really want the ArbCom to look at them. Do not remove AFD notices[edit]

Please do not remove notices of ongoing AFDs from the tops of article pages, the way you did at Pants. The AFD notice is there merely to alert people to the fact that an AFD is going on. Removing the notice does not make the deletion discussion stop happening; in fact, it probably makes the article more likely to get deleted, since fewer people will arrive at the discussion page via the article itself.

If you don't want Wikipedia to be dePantsed, you can express that opinion by !voting on the Pants AFD page. Have a nice day! --Quuxplusone 07:24, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Launders Update[edit]

Hi, thanks for your comments on my updates to your well put together Launders page. In addition to adding data I changed some of your sentences because in conjunction with the data that I added they needed to be changed in order for the grammar to be consistent throughout and for the entire article to "flow" better from readers' perspectives and be more easily readable in general. If you don't like any of the changes that I made to your wording though then please feel free to modify or ask me to do so, I'd be glad to oblige.

Also, I had to put in some detailed content regarding U-864 that is probably better left in the U-864 page because it is really specific to that boat and that incident; I did it to add some "meat" to the article since his bio details are scant at the moment. I do have a request in to the UK Royal Navy's museum, via email, to send me more biographical information. Hopefully they will at least send public details of his service record, and since he died while still commissioned, that should cover much of his life all the way up through his death. As for his time before the RN, hopefully they will send something; if not, I will have to track it down some other way, perhaps if I can find a surviving relative by tracking some of the names in his service jacket. Regarding his private life (family, philosophies, etc...) I will have to try to get that some other way also in case that is also not part of the RN's response to my query. Again, surviving relatives/descendants might be helpful.

Anyway, whenever I get more Launders specific biographical details, I will flesh out his bio more with attention to his life and reduce some of the detail around the U-864 engagement, leaving that to the U-864 section and any other section that deals with the u-boat's last mission, if they're not one in the same. I'll make sure to review the U-864/HMS Venturer article (or the U-864 article, if that's the authoritative page on the subject) to be sure that it's not missing any of the details that I'm about to remove; if it does, I'll of course port them over before deleting them from his bio page.Srajan01 09:08, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re hovercraft[edit]

Well, it was apparently an actual vehicle manufactured by a real company. We have articles on the most obscure cars etc. There is a category hovercraft, so we do keep articles on hovercraft. It seems possible although far from certain that the design etc. may have been in the mainstream of American hovercraft development. It really should go to AfD but I didn't do that since my vote would have been Keep. However I would recommend that it go to AfD. Herostratus 15:17, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I removed the prod on Gheemoo because I believe it actually meets requirements for speedy deletion. I have replaced it with {{db-nonsense]]. {{db-nonsense}} seemed most appropriate there. Have you considered using TWINKLE, which gives you a lot of speedy options right on the article? You might think about checking it out. Philippe 19:12, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Launders editor[edit]

Hi, I noticed that someone else did some good work on the Launders article that I recently updated. Whoever it was formatted the sections, added the bio-box (that little box at the top with basic biographical details), added a References section below (which I did't know how to do, which is why I put the citations in the paragraphs themselves). Anyway, I saw his edits log in the History section of the page, but now when I look at it, I only see my last edits there. I know that Wikipedia had a problem recently, so I wonder if maybe they lost a little bit of data or something? Anyway, the reason that I want to know is because I want to thank that guy and also to apologize for not doing all of the formatting correctly from the get-go because I'm not really yet familiar with how to do Wiki pages properly, etc... In other words, I'm still learning :) So if you could let me know his user ID in order for me to get in touch with him, that would be very helpful.

Thanks!Srajan01 03:15, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If I had known that those types of blogs were not allowed on Wikipedia, then I probably would not have created it. I only made it because I saw a red link linking to the page, which had not been created. The bot told me what was going on, so I have no problem if it is deleted. 71.213.131.11 23:23, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD closure[edit]

Please reconsider your early closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (film. Please note that this article was created as the result of a typographical error - someone meant to type Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (film) in the Tom Felton article but left off the closing parenthesis by mistake. Someone likely saw the redlink and decided to create the article. Aside from the erroneous link in Tom Felton this article has no incoming links, is not a likely search term and thus is useless as a redirect. It would make more sense to let this run its course and have an admin delete it rather than speedily turning it in to a pointless redirect. If you're unwilling to reconsider the closure it will likely just be listed again at RfD but it would save the extra footwork to just allow it to be deleted here instead of taking it there. Arkyan • (talk) 17:38, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Someone searching for it is going to type "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in the search box - not "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (film)". That's why I say it's an unlikely search term, and as a "typo" redirect it's even less likely someone's going to type it in. But if you disagree that's ok, it can be brought up on RfA and decided on there. Arkyan • (talk) 17:47, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Oops, I meant RfD (I think I got distracted by all of the RfA headers on your talk page). DRV or RfD would work. I'd prefer RfD because I'm not contesting the closure, per se, it's just my opinion that there is a better solution than redirecting this. DRV is for procedural issues with closures, not disagreeing with the outcome. Arkyan • (talk) 18:01, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed this redirect and I've deleted it, as it may potentially confusingly clutter search results. Arkyan is correct, it's very unlikely that one would type "(film)" into the search box in the first place, let alone leave off the closing parentheses. Ƙɽɨɱρȶ 18:29, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Little context in Chris Duffy (footballer)[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Chris Duffy (footballer), by Slumgum (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Chris Duffy (footballer) is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Chris Duffy (footballer), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Chris Duffy (footballer) itself. Hey[edit]

Could you do a favor, and not bite the newbies? Kwsn(Ni!) 22:38, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The criticism was not directed at the individual who nominated the article; it was directed at the process that allows someone with no meaningful Wikipedia experience to create an AfD and to do so less than ten minutes after an article is created. No one should be creating an AfD where an article makes explicit claims of notability. A new editor shouldn't be able to do this under any circumstances. There is a desperate need for an intermediate level of authority between having an ID and being an admin. Let new users edit articles to their hearts content, but let's have some process whereby users can show that they know what it takes to make an article but having them create one article that meets Wikipedia standards before they can start with XfDs. I'm not actually the one who created the original Superbad (website) page... I simply created a new page and copied and pasted its contents from "Superbad" -- apparently before I learned to use Wikipedia's "move" function. (This was to create a disambiguation page after a film of the same name was announced). If you're going to notify someone of its delete nom, this is the user who created the old page: Dysprosia. Hey[edit]

Thanks for providing basis for that removal. I won't re-add it. Although... it should be stressed somewhere that it was a major Union victory in the article if hasn't been already. Kwsn(Ni!) 15:16, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome. I think that the first paragraph of the article and the aftermath section provide adequate indication that it was a major victory, but I would be amenable to suggestions for changes. Merely adding the word "major" doesn't really do much for me in the context of writing an encyclopedia article. The text of the article can be expanded pretty easily as long as secondary sources are available for citations of opinions; my major problem with people adding the word "decisive" is that the battle box is an inadequate place to include POV of this type. And frankly, if you read a lot of literature about the Battle of Gettysburg, you will find that there definitely are historians who do not believe it was a decisive victory in terms of ending the war. Also, the Confederates at the time did not consider it a major defeat. While you may disagree with this judgment today, these are some of the factors that have to be weighed in creating this as an article with a "neutral point of view." Hotdog magazine[edit]

There's a reason for not using speedy A7 except for People, groups, web content, and companies. The rationale for not putting other types of articles in A7 is that they are harder to tell and benefit from additional eyes. Repeated suggestions to add additional types have been consistently and decisively rejected on the Speedy talk page. Launders updated[edit]

Hi, I finally got some official details on Launders' from the Royal Navy's Library Department. I modified the text of the article and also included a "Service Jacket" section, credited it, and then included all of the details of his service record as they were provided to me. I unfortunately was not able to get any info about his personal life, and the RN said that they don't keep that kind of information (at least not in publicly accessible records, I imagine). Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks. Srajan01 17:48, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Checkuser clerking[edit]

Hey, there! I see you've recently added your name to the list of clerks. If you like, Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Procedures is the closest thing we have to an instruction manual, and of course the clerks' noticeboard is a good one to keep an eye on. Learning as you go is quite alright; aside from the maze of templates and a general caution that all final decisions are left for the checkusers themselves (except in some pretty specific circumstances), it should hopefully mostly be common sense. I guess that's about it, I'll let you get back to whatever you were up to. Also, this is awesome. Cheers! – Luna Santin (talk) 00:59, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a former clerk, I strongly second that due to this and this. Cheers. Miranda 04:00, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My recent RfB[edit]

Thank you so much for your participation in my recent RfB. Though it closed with 72% support (below the required 90%), I'm still quite pleased at the outpouring of support shown by a fair percentage of the community.

I'm currently tabulating and calculating all opposing and neutral arguments to help me better address the community's concerns about my abilities as a bureaucrat. If you'd like, you can follow my progress (and/or provide additional suggestions) at User:EVula/admin/RfB notes. Thanks again! EVula // talk // // 04:35, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable TT players[edit]

Notable_table_tennis_players I had moved this section from main article Table tennis. See Talk:Notable_table_tennis_players for version. Some red links are also there so category wont work here i think. This has a lead section also please go through reference there. You have added prod there, if its deleted then it has to be reinserted into main article, and main article becomes {toomany}. Lara bran 08:13, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not just red links. Many player names are unlinked. I think all of them dont have seperate page, so category wont work i think. Also there are very few pages related to TT players in wikipedia including this and List of World Table Tennis Champions I am removing prod. Thanks. Lara bran 08:35, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
