Carter Dickson novels

Great work!!!! The one little issue is the links to publisher's pages in infoboxes. They should be Heinemann instead of Heinemann, Morrow instead of Morrow, etc. I have corrected links for the first two books and plan to do so for the rest. I am also hoping to upload first ed dustjackets and add pub histories for all these books. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know what you think about nav template. Henry Merrivale 03:59, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

There is no need to add sorting key in the cat if {{DEFAULTSORT:}} is specified. For example: if there is {{DEFAULTSORT:Ten Teacups, The}} then there is no need for [[Category:Crime Novel|Ten Teacups, The]]; [[Category:Crime Novel]] will give correct listing. Speedy Deletion of Tyler Anderson

Hello again my friend! I've declined the speedy request for the above as notability is asserted (vaguely). It's borderline. You may well wish to {{prod}} it or take it to WP:AFD. Thanks for your hard work at WP:CSD - looks like I'm talking to a future admin here......! Pedro |  Chat  09:58, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Admin Coaching

It would be my pleasure to provide some coaching, although with 4.5k edits plus another 650 odd deleted edits you're pretty much there! I see you've done some WP:AFD stuff and I'd advise you to keep up on that. The only issue at the moment is your number of inputs to Wikipedia project space. Most of the "RfA crowd" like to see 300+. RfA is a funny beast really. I can really see you'd do well with the tools right now, but convincing the rest of the community is another thing. I think with a bit of push into the project space you'd tick all the boxes.

I note you're in Vancouver. I'm a brit, so you'd have to bear with me for reasons of timezone for replies sometimes! I'm normally here from 07:00 - 15:30 UTC and sometimes again 18:00-20:00.

If you want I'll create a subpage from my userpage and we can see how we go..... Pedro |  Chat  15:41, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Hiya, about to go offline so will reply fully later. Your edit count can be seen by using this tool [1]. Pedro |  Chat  15:57, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Knocking mops

Several times recently, I've made changes where you would expect an edit conflict and not gotten the warning. Earlier today I was working on an article with an inuse tag, and a bot came by to add a date to an earlier warning label. Wikipedia let me make the change right over it. No idea why. It warned me about the edit conflict on the help desk, but it gave me nothing on the University of Akron. I think the little fairies that keep this stuff running are slacking off. :) --Moonriddengirl 00:13, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Jason Clare

Thanks for your kind commentsre the AfD. I normally am in favour of deleting mere candidates, I think this one will stick and I think it is useful to have the article in place before the election. I find it fascinating that he has such a low profile still notwithstanding the election hasn't been declared and given that he won the preselection over two more prominent candidates. Googling Clare produces predominantly very local news items only in recent times - not useful article material. The point is of course in an election you are elected locally only - we don't vote for the PM, we vote for our local member and Clare apparently seems to be focussed on that at present. He has however been touted as a future leader of the party. [2] - need to add that reference too :-) Regards --Golden Wattle talk 23:40, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

You left an message on the entry for Ralph Buchsbaum. Thanks for inserting the "Hangon" tag in the right location. The Londom Times named Animals without Backbones (AWB) one of the 50 most influential books of the first half of the 20th century, but I am hard-pressed to find the list. Also, see visits.web.cern.ch/visits/pcst2001/proc/Lewenstein_plenary.ppt which is a talk from a Cornell professor listing AWB as one of the four most influential textbooks of the post-war era (along with Richard Feynman, Linus Pauling, James Watson, and Lubert Stryer. Erroneous A7 tag on Jan Olav Reither

The speedy criteria are hard and don't stretch - please take more care with these. (This is becoming a matter of public concern and PR problems, so a few people are looking at all CSDs and particularly A7s lately.) Thanks! —CComMack (tc) 20:25, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

I was still in the process of trying to find English-language references for this article after I noticed that the author was asserting further notability, so I have no problem with your decision, and accept that there was notability here that I apparently failed to see upon first glance. Thanks for the opportunity to learn from this experience; I've removed myself from new page patrol. Accounting4Taste 21:02, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
I can respect that; NP patrol tends to burn people out faster than any task other than perhaps ArbCom. It's why I don't do it myself.  :-) I hope I'll see you around on the article creation and editing fronts for a long time to come. —CComMack (tc) 00:19, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Burnt like a match, at least with respect to NP patrol for the time being... but I'll still be here on other fronts, thanks. I need to find a way to keep the contexts in mind of improving Wikipedia, improving the articles, and not biting the newbies while still getting the work done. Accounting4Taste 00:36, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

The problem with the page is that it doesn't exist, which screws up its transclusion. The article was nominated by an IP, which they can't do since Anons can't create pages, such as the AfD page. I have reverted the nomination of the page. You can remove the page form the log again. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 05:24, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

OMG, thanks very much. I checked that the page existed when I FIRST noticed the problem, but didn't check again. Much obliged, and I'll do just that. Accounting4Taste 05:25, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
No problem. I just noticed you spending a lot of time trying to "fix" the problem. I did a similar thing a few months back. Cheers! -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 05:27, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I was horrified at the thought that I'd screwed up someone else's AfD and couldn't fix it -- I figured I'd be deservedly slapped down for that one. Thanks again for the quick and accurate help, much obliged. Accounting4Taste 05:30, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Wait a second...

I suggested that you idiot, but that is not the same thing as accusing you of bad faith. Here, read this: Jimbo sparks deletion debate. Jimmy does accuse people of bad faith, but that's not what I did to you. Jimmy is paranoid about that kind of stuff (it must come from his childhood and from managing the Objectivism Usenet list he managed in the 1990's). I now admit that I was wrong to suggest that you might be an idiot and I apologize to you. Being an atheist, I do not normally quote the Bible, but Ecclesiastes 3:3 reminds that there is a a time to tear down and a time to build up. But common sense tells us that tearing down is easier. That's why I called you what I did, but I now recognize that my words were unfair. Again, sorry.--Mightyms 04:32, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Computer Builders Warehouse

Hi, Can you explain why you delete a page Computer Builders Warehouse. I was adding a page to Wikipedia that is from the list of michigan based companies. This comapany was not on the list. It is the largest supplier of computer parts in Michigan, you can find them on Intel, AMD, Microsoft, Airnet, Coolermaster, Thermaltake and many more websites. There are white papers on AMD and Microsoft websites about them. Would you delete Microsoft? Newegg.com? Tigerdirect? I would like an explination?

Carp alert!

Hello Accounting4Taste, I am sorry I mentioned once more that the language of the Malaysia Bombed Indonesia! article was in fact Indonesian. This was just to elucidate matters, but it might seem that I was carping at your comments — which was certainly not my intention. I am very sorry if I have made that impression. Kind regards, Bessel Dekker 01:55, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Oh, heavens, not in the least. I was just feeling foolish because of my high level of ignorance of Indonesian languages, but I also wanted to be VERY sure that everyone felt I hadn't been rude by not caring about the differences between the languages. I'm proud of my country and my language -- we Canadians hate being mis-identified as Americans <grin> -- and I figure I shouldn't take other people's countries and languages lightly, so because I had mis-identified someone else's language, I figured apologies were in order. I know how I'd feel!! But thanks for checking back... it is appreciated and I'm glad to know we're both only anxious to improve things and keep harmony. Accounting4Taste 02:28, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Malingsia

Can you point me to Indonesian sources for the material on the Malingisa page? jonathon 16:41, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure if I know precisely what you mean. The Malingsia page was originally like this in its original language, and that's all I have to offer. I don't speak or read the language of the original article so anything I had to offer would be pretty useless other than the standard Google searches. You would need someone who speaks/reads the language in which this was originally written, I suspect, or else just the standard Google searches in English. Sorry not to be able to help you more. Accounting4Taste 16:56, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I thought that you were referring to something other than the Indonesian on the original page. jonathon 06:31, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

non-profit literary publisher

This terms typically refers to publishers who have no hope of ever making a profit. They select books based purely on artistic merit. 1,000 copies published is a very large press run. If you are lucky, 20 years later you'll sell one of those books for more than the company grossed the year it was published. That said, neither Michael Horton (author) nor his publisher are worth keeping in mainspace on wikipedia.jonathon 06:31, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

RE: City Rats (film)

Hi there, I see what you're saying. There have been some articles in the British press that mention it, or that Danny Dyer is working on it (and he's pretty popular here). I'll get some references and add to this page. You're right, if it's still not noteworthy then I'll be easy to recreate when the film is released. For the record, I'm not attached to the film, I heard about it from a few other people - so thought it would actually be quite useful to have something up on wikipedia for people to see. I use wikipedia to look up things that might not have any information in other places, I realise Wiki may not be impartial all the time but it is a useful resource nonetheless...maybe I've misjudged what Wiki is? This is not just my opinion when I say that British film lovers will find another Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan film (like The Business (film)) quite impotant...specially one where Tamer is the star this time? This information can be gained from the script which is available online too. Maybe I could find some articles about their other films and films of this genre to support this too. Jameslenton 08:44, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

I think that you're right, that maybe it's not quite time for it. I'm really just trying to get better at editing and find out why certain pages get deleted...sadly most editors don't seem to want to offer advice on how to make things better. Thanks for your help though. I've added some extra stuff, so I guess I'll wait to see what other people think, and then add it again when the film is out. Jameslenton 15:49, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

  • ROFL... yeah, it wasn't so long ago that I was wondering what these mysterious godlike creatures called "admins" did when they weren't dispensing Zeus-like justice with thunderbolts... I also have to admit that I am fascinated by the process of my own RfA, like someone who can't take his eyes off a car accident as he's driving by -- checking two and three times a day to see the numbers mount up... hoping that, like Sally Field, everyone will continue to "like me -- really like me!". I know your RfA will go well -- we'll have to form a mutual "new administrator" support group, won't we? (I have to admit, I asked Pedro for coaching because I liked his style, and it surely did help a lot in getting the right mind-set in place.) Accounting4Taste 17:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Ha! You like my style - wait 'till I tell you what to do with those extra buttons! The big fat "delete" one next to the main page is always tempting! Seriously AFT, not counting chickens, but it looks good so far. I'm really pleased, you'll be a great adition to the team. As for GlassCobra - the same! I know what you mean about the RfA process though - it's almost horrible yet exhilirating watching it. Every time you log in expecting opposes or horrid questions.......! Still, looks good so far for you guys and seriously I'll be delighted to lend a hand in the early days if you need it - which I'm sure you both won't! Pedro :  Chat  19:06, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
You're only checking twice or three times a day? Geez, I just put mine in, and I can't stop checking it, haha. I'm really honored by the community's trust, but I'm glad that we have seasoned vets like Pedro and Jmlk and everyone else to help us out. :) GlassCobra 19:54, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
+1 in support for Glasscobra per this conversation as well. We need a strong admin team and it's going to be great collaborating with you guys. Pedro :  Chat  20:23, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Oppose at your RfA

The opposer has clearly not dug deeper into your contributions. I have responded as nominator - feel free to respond as well, but to be honest one out of 40, and at that a pretty poor oppose as well, is not really a concern. I think I have addressed the issue in case anyone else feels the need to oppose based on it. Pedro :  Chat  08:36, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

All ended up as a bit of fun that oppose - looks like an admin just making a WP:POINT which is pretty bad form IMHO. Still you're at 98% at WP:BN so we'll just rise above it ....... ! Pedro :  Chat  16:50, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
I definitely think rising above it, as far as I'm concerned, is the better course of action... especially since I'm not precisely sure what's going on, or that it all applies to me personally. I could step in and say, "Hey, I've edited a lot of articles, just not in the last 1000 or so" but there doesn't seem to be any point, since anyone can look and see what I've done. To be honest, I backed off editing articles after my run-in at Philo Vance in the earlier part of October, but I do intend to go back to both that article and editing mystery-related articles in general -- regardless of what that admin thinks. Accounting4Taste 17:27, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Looks like we both got somewhat dissatisfying opposes... GlassCobra 19:41, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, it's all good information... I think it's gutsy to stick in an "oppose" when faced with so many contrary opinions, and I have to value that opinion. My opposer is a very experienced editor and has had time to build up reasons for that opinion, so maybe I will spend more time in the future working on articles. I see that your opposer has been the subject of some discussion on the administrators' side of things so you might want to look that up. Accounting4Taste 21:13, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I've been doing a little researching. The guy's case actually just got taken to ArbCom, if you want to go take a look. GlassCobra 22:37, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
LOL yes, I did see that, but I confess I didn't read it too thoroughly when I realized that your "oppose" and mine were not the same person... yours may have less of a point than mine, that's for sure. Hell, I'd have nominated you myself if you had asked. Accounting4Taste 23:05, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Revolution Mother

I'm glad you've put REVOLUTION MOTHER on AfD, it gets it off my conscience - I was trying to decide whether (1) to get them all blocked for constantly deleting speedy-delete tags and reintroducing deleted articles or (2) to write them a really simple words-of-one-syllable guide to how to assert notability. I think their band does have a degree of notability, but their behaviour makes it hard to sympathise with them. JohnCD 20:48, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I agree, it's tough to sympathize when their article gets speedied EIGHT TIMES and they keep reintroducing the same stuff. I took it to AfD because I actually went to their MySpace page and worked out that they might just have some notability sufficient to justify the page -- I also unprotected Revolution Mother so that the contents can be moved there if they succeed AfD, and tried to leave the creator a helpful note. We'll see what happens. Accounting4Taste 20:54, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

i dont know how to communicate with you any other way but this is what i have got Revolution Mother is a punk/hardcore/metal band consisting of Mike Vallely vocals, Jason Hampton guitar, Colin Buis bass, Brendan Murphy drums, Mike vallely was previously from Mike V And The Rats. Jason Hampton was previously from The Third Degree. Colin Buis was previously from Mean season and Twilight Transmission. Bredan Murphy was previously from Twilight Transmission as well. Revolution Mother began late 2005 by original members Mike Vallely and Jason Hampton, Revolution Mother picked up where Mike v and The Rats had ended. Revolution Mother's debut album was brought out in 2006 enjoy the ride.

Revolution Mother added two new band members Colin Buis and Brendan Murphy and with their help and a reputable manager began to write and record tracks for Glory bound After recording nearly 20 tracks from which the band chose for its album, Glory Bound is a fine-tuned, carefully selected set, highlighting all facets of the incredibly diverse Revolution Mother songbook.

Revolution Mother also tightened its live set for the Vans Warped Tour, performing on its own stage and garnering a few main stage opportunities courtesy of the tour’s founder and longtime skateboarding advocate Kevin Lyman. The act supported the release of Glory Bound on the entire 2007 installment, performing two sets each day for 45 cities.

Mike vallely is a sponsored skater by Element skateboard and Revolution Mother’s recored label is cement shoes

You're welcome for that too. Funnily enough, I was the person user to get an admins' T-shirt. :) Acalamari 23:02, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm very delayed in responding to these this week. I wonder why? :p Congratulations! And good luck! LaraLove 14:36, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

GlassCobra's RfA

The count is in, and now I join the crew who wield the mops and pails.
Thanks for your support! I pledge to serve both you and Jimbo Wales.

If you have anything you need, then please don't think to hesitate.

For I am the very model of a grateful admin designate!

Hey buddy! Thanks a ton for all your support! My RfA went pretty well, I think; I did have a little trouble towards the end, but I think everything came out okay! Thanks also for the link to the new admin school, that's going to be really useful! Let's go whack some vandals, eh? We're going to make a hell of a team! :D GlassCobra 00:58, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Emma Mikhailoff

I don't really care one way or the other. I actually started making the same type of style improvements that the other editor made - wikilinks and such, and then I searched for "Emma Mikhailoff" on Google, found absolutely no hits, and upon further reading of the article, it looks to me like this is a gag by a certain "Emma Mikhailoff" or one of her friends. Isarig

Ha ha!

You beat me! Acalamari 02:57, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm preserving this delightful prose for the future.

Dear Mr. Canadian Accountant,

I think that by deleting my page about Zane Naylor it shows that you have no consideration for people of other races, sex, color, or natioinality. This is because you show disregard and disrespect for American Athletes that are in the Olympics. If you continue to do this, I will be forced to report you to your supervisers. I hope that you get a chance to read this before you delete this just as you did with my Zane Naylor article. I hope you don't delete my comments. Since you're such a jerk that doesn't have a real job so you spend all you're time editing wikipedia for free. Plus, the only reason you dont like Zane Naylor is because he beat all the Canadians in the Olympics.

Canada sucks!!!

The only goodthing that came from British Columbias was Pamela Anderson!

Thank you for your time,

you fat nazi!

sincerely

Znznzn

And also for posterity, something I've copied from Pedro's userpage: "Dear Pedro, I have a promblem, a wannabe admin deleted my account of Zane Naylor. He said that it had no signifigance, although, if he had taken the time to research about Zane Naylor, he would see that Mr. Naylor is the record holder for the 2007 IHSAA Track and Field Gold Medal. After he had deleted my page, he continued to send me rude messages. At first, I ignored these messages, but he later attacked my Canadian heritage and also made insulting comments about my mother including calling her a mother f*****. I am asking you to revoke and if possible, remove his account from wikipedia. I am sorry if I have somehow messed up your webpage, but I am not that computer literate. I just needed to tell someone about this cyber bullying.

The joys of Adminship

Man, you've been active to iritate so many people already! Wait until you get the "why did you decline the speedy deletion you Nazi" bit - it's allways good! Sorry it's taken me a while to reply, but here goes;

  • User:Znznzn - I've G10'd his user page and left a final warning. Odds on they never use the account again so ignore it.
  • E-mail re:Ferrard. Alas, again the joys of adminship. I'd leave a talk page comment (not email) explaining the speedy criteria you used, with links to any relevant policies (e.g. WP:N, WP:NOR etc etc.)
  • User:Abhih Hmmmmmmmm. Problematic. A poor grasp of English, and appears to be on some kind of crusade. WP:AGF tells us to politely ask the user to be more careful, several times. If it continues then I'd suggest warning (very very politely) them that incorrect CSD tagging could be viewed as disruption, and given the user page perhaps they out to spend more time on vandal reversion at RC patrol rather than New Pages. If it still goes on, or if met by a blank wall (so far this users talk page isn't too hot on taking hints) I'd get a damn good collection of diff's of wrong CSD tags, a good collection of diffs of warnings and go to WP:AN or WP:ANI to get community input.

Bet you're ruing the day I nominated you!!!! Pedro :  Chat  22:24, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry of the author of Unsigh

I have opened a sockpuppetry case against the author of Unsigh, which has been SD'd 5 times already today. If you have any more names to add to Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Arkelna, please add them to the list. Thank you. --Blanchardb 21:26, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Cruse Brother's Production

Dear Accounting4Taste,

Today you deleted my new page for Cruse Brother's Production. I want to let you know I am very hurt by your decision and very frustrated. I worked very hard at that page, being it my very first wikipedia page. I asked for more time to add information, including resources and more facts, I even gave you several websites. But you did not honor my request. I intended to go back and add alot of more information to the page which now I cannot not do. I even explained the reason for not deleting our site, that we were new and would like some more exposure. But you still deleted it. I now have no desire to retry and in fact will probably never visit again.

How would you like it if you worked all day on a page then somone you dont even know comes along, has no idea what the information is or that it might be useful for someone and just deletes it? You better respond with some good answers. it would be much appreciated

Thanks for the tip. I'm already hip to the New Admins school. I don't intend to use the button until I've gone through the course. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:41, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Wallowing in my RfA: This time it's personal...
My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Wikipedia, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Wikipedia to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:41, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Post Scriptum: I believe my collaged graphic at left, which incorporates the WP globe and mop image, falls under the rubric of parody for my purposes here. Or is it satire? Regardless, it's a legitimate and legally protected First Amendment usage under US law. Complaints and allegations that this is an improper "fair use" image will be entertained on my talk page, probably with fruit juice, finger food and exotic coffees.
