April 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. However, I noticed that your username (AbbottCorporatePublicAffairs) may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because gives the impression that this account is registered to a company. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. P. D. Cook Talk to me! 19:21, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello -

This is John Koval, and I work in Corporate Public Affairs at Abbott. We acknowledge that this is an account controlled by the company and submit all of our edits to the page in full transparency and in accordance with Wikipedia's best practices in mind. Today, on November 6, 2015, we made a number of factual updates reflecting (1) changes at the company, (2) our business structure; (3) location and employee count; (4) the deletion of erroneous information; (5) the reorganization of some information so that it appears more logically. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me: John Koval (john.koval@abbott.com) 224-667-8522. Thank you.

Greetings. Thank you for being forthright about your affiliation.
  • As noted above, this username does not meet our username policy, as it implies shared use, which is against Wikipedia's terms of service. I suggest changing your username to one that represents only you as an individual. Something like "JKoval at AbbottLabs", for instance would be acceptable. You can apply for the name change here, or just cease using this current username and start a new one if you're not concerned with preserving your edit history.
  • We strongly discourage people connected with a company from editing about that company for conflict of interest reasons. If you wish to correct factual errors, it is generally preferable to suggest the changes at the article's talk page and allow others to evaluate the proposed changes and either implement them or discuss them further (except in the case of gross misinformation of vandalism, for which it is perfectly fine to clean up first and ask questions later). Wikipedia is inherently a collaborative process, and doing things this way promotes that aspect.
  • All this being said, I didn't see anything particularly "wrong" with your edits, except that we really want the information in an article to come primarily from secondary sources rather than being sourced directly from the company.
It's likely that this account will be blocked as a username violation, but you would still be able to edit the talk page here. If you do wish to change your username but don't see this before the account is blocked, you can request a temporary unblock here so that you can apply at the appropriate page. In any case, feel free to ask further questions. Thank you for your time. --Finngall talk 22:31, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Block[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you.
