Request for Help[edit]

Hello there fello editor, I have spent much time editing the Brighton Bypass article. I recently moved the majority of the information to Southern Transport Investment Program as the information on Brighton Bypass was becoming fragmented and irrelevant to the article itself. I am still not satisfied with the results. Can you offer any suggestions on the matter? Wiki ian 13:01, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hola![edit]

A very happy new year and christmas! how have you been my friend? Well my dream of nominating Madonna's Confessions era for GT has finally come true and its time for us to collaborate on Ganguly! But before that could you shed some support for this? Its a painstakingly huge article. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:10, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He he. Thanks for your support, when can we move around with Ganguly? I can wait till you are free though :) --Legolas (talk2me) 03:53, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okie dokie. Well I love Ganguly the person more so the player, since knew him personally. But that doesnot mean I don't admire him as a player, he was the one of the best captains India ever got. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:03, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
NP. Where do you wanna start? Your sandbox? And would you prefer the format I used in Vijender Singh for formatting this aricle? Looks professional actually. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:34, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wunderful, I'll start adding my two cents soon. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:58, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Adam Gilchrist article is exactly what Im against. I really donot see the use of separate sections as they tend to get undue attention and is normally a target for gossip depending on which section receives the media mayhem. That's why I always believe in merging them together in a single flow as a biography should be written. Even the personal life sections always seem WP:UNDUE because of this reasons. Any personal life of the person receiving third party notability has come because of his work, and that should be a part of the biography only, not a separate entity in itself. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:43, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Its exactly like Vijender Singh bio structure. --Legolas (talk2me) 07:55, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are right my friend. Coupled with cricket passion and the recent hate crimes, its not a country and people that we Indians really like. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:23, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Outdent)Lol! That's quite diplomatic I see. Now regarding Ganguly, I gave a thorough read of the article and it seems that we're quite lucky. Most of the content is really there, its just that we need to improve and structure it properly, also we really need some new pics urgh! --Legolas (talk2me) 10:38, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Try in BollywoodHungama.com formerly known as IndiaFM. They had agreed to release their website pictures taken at parties to wikimedia commons as per {{Cc-by-3.0-IndiaFM}} template. Hence search for Ganguly in their parties and events category and then upload to commons with the above template. I did the same for Vijender Singh. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:43, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Haven't seen any T20's this year. There's 2 AUS PAK ODIs in a couple of weeks and will get to 1 of them. Am mainly following Shield fixtures. Have you seen much? There seems to be so much on this season. –Moondyne 14:23, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ganguly dev[edit]

Im adding the Ganguly article is User:Legolas2186/Sandbox2 as I keep forgetting where you have kept the article for development. Also, can you take a look at this. Comment on what are your thoughts about how I edit and the article "Paparazzi". Be frank, if you think what I do is crap, say it because I'm really hurt by the allegations that what I do in wikipedia is fancruft. You get the memo. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:58, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Aaron. I'm just formatting the article to split it into different sections as per the Vijender Singh article. By the way, the playing style section is out of references. Can you look if there is any book illustrating Ganguly's playing style that we can use? Also, I'm at office now, and those crickinfo links are not opening here :( :( --Legolas (talk2me) 04:21, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Lol at Ponting. Also, who's Monkey? I'll start my work now and will be very busy with Gaguly, how are those pics coming along? I uploaded a newer version of the main pic, where the subject's face is more clearly visible. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:36, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok. Never really corresponded with him. Let's see if I can get some recent pics of Gaguly from the hungama website. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:53, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ha ha. Well I do have to live up to my reputation of producing 3-4 GAs altogether don't I :) For Ganguly I uploaded a number of images in commons and even found a fantastic main profile image. --Legolas (talk2me) 09:07, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Told ya! I won't tolerate the biography in a statistical perspective. Come to think of it, I won't be much help on the statistical parts in the infobox. Would you re-check them with crickinfo or sumthin? I have found three fantastic biographies on Ganguly that support most of the text. My mission has began! :) --Legolas (talk2me) 09:50, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely agree. IMO they should be moved to a new article titled List of awards and nominations received by Sourav Ganguly. It really makes the article ugly and fancrufty. I have temporarily hidden the crickinfo links that you pasted, for aesthetic purposes :) The biographies I found on google books and others I already knew existed. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:02, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yup. I use the exact same thing. Although if its published news, I use the cite news and 4 magazine i use the cite journal template. And good that you removed those ugly tables. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:28, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Outdent)I actually edit the whole article, wherever, whenever I find info. So there is 110% of us overlapping. Best way is to let each other know when you edit. For me, I add around 5K of info at a single go. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:36, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okie dokie. I'll start my research then. good night and sweet cricket dreams:) --Legolas (talk2me) 10:43, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I finished the first section ie the early life one. Maybe you can give it a copyedit. Other section I'll start tomorrow. --Legolas (talk2me) 12:31, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ok, will keep that in mind. Are you working on the article? If not, lemme complete teh biography since i have time :) --Legolas (talk2me) 10:25, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Again, busy adding info. Well I do have to live up to my reputation of being GA king don't I? He he. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:16, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Almost finished with the bio. The last section is left. In the meanwhile can you copy-edit it thoroughly? I won't be able to add anything before Monday as weekends I don't log in. Another thing, can you start developing the lead? Its gonna be huge I think. Bye happy weekend. Signing off now. :-* --Legolas (talk2me) 14:30, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Outdent)Busy editing eh?? :) --Legolas (talk2me) 09:26, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh man, that article is the definition of WP:UNDUE. One look at it, I was resisting myself to jump on it and start developing. Well I think I should get back to Ganguly. How do you feel teh article is shaping up? --Legolas (talk2me) 09:37, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Haha. I remember that you posted on my talk page that Ganguly's gonna be a big problem to develop since he doesnot have a bio and look where the article is at present. Everything is possible when you develop with good intentions and earnestly. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:07, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ponting[edit]

I've only been home for 10min. Got home, turned TV and PC on, Ponting hit the six that got overriden, logged into wiki, he scored the 100 :D -- Sk8er5000 (talk) 05:00, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just of the game. Not Ponting. -- Sk8er5000 (talk) 05:03, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Just finished (sort of...) explanding the Hammond article to ridiculous lengths. I'm asking a few people to have a look as I don't know if to go for peer review or FAR, as the GA process seems to go on for ever. If you get a chance, I'd appreciate your opinion. I'm probably going to see what I can add to the Bodyline article now, and might have a stab at doing Jardine as well. Or Sutcliffe, but I'd like someone with a career that doesn't last forever, as I would like to expand one that doesn't end up going on and on and on and on... --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:15, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Put it up for peer review in the end. Still needs a good copy-edit though. Cheers! --Sarastro1 (talk) 23:18, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just looking through this article for a couple of formatting related interests I had, and I noticed that at the start of the second paragraph of 'Early Australian domestic career', it says:

Speculation ignited that Ponting was an outsider to join the Australian squad on their 1993 tour to England. Despite Ponting's reluctance to weigh into the debate Shipherd though he could handle the experience."[22]

Which doesn't seem to make any sense, I thought maybe something had disappeared somewhere along the line? I know you've been doing a lot of work on this article, and plenty of others to do with Ponting, so I thought you'd be the best initial point of call rather than the article talk. If this section isn't your doing, then I'll put it on the article talk.

Incidentally, my work is being done on Justin Langer, my interest being due to him playing for Somerset, but I'm working on rewriting the whole article in one of my sandboxes (here if you're interested), if you have any sources or know of any that you think I might find useful, they'd be appreciated.

Regards, Harrias (talk) 20:48, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The blockquote that I've included closes a quotation that I can't see starting, and on reading it, I suspect 'though' should be 'thought'? Oh, and who is Shipherd? Harrias (talk) 21:04, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It looked like it might have been something like that. As I said, I was just flicking down through the article, and it didn't seem to make much sense there! Harrias (talk) 21:13, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, Langer should be a fair bit shorter than Ponting, a lot of what I've currently got will probably be played with, and I'm trying to avoid too many boring and repetitive stats when I can, but at the moment I'm lacking sources for a lot of his early life, so all I really have is Cricinfo and CricketArchive stats. Hopefully I can bulk this out with some detail rather than numbers when I get it. Harrias (talk) 22:10, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've recently gotten hold of a couple of Langer's books, but haven't yet had a chance to read through them, I'm hoping they'll give me some stuff! Harrias (talk) 22:21, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Ganguly[edit]

Not yet, Legacy needs to be expanded more and the same for the lead which is extremely poor now. I have hidden those unruly day-to-day statistics as I believe that is more appropriate for the List of achievements page. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are you there? We got work to do cleaning-up he Gagnuly article from WP:OVERLINK and increase WP:LEAD while adding WP:ALT. Are you there? are you? You? You? You? You? --Legolas (talk2me) 08:53, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That will be wonderful!!! In the meantime, I'll just add the Alternate text and increase the lead. You can correct the prose after I'm done. And ofcourse you can add something significant if its received enough third party notability and doesnot violate WP:BASICHUMANDIGNITY. And yeah for the link to the sandbox that you pasted! So nice to see that the particular structure is being used. Let's hurry up with this. I have been thinking about the article of Wriddhiman Saha for a while. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:47, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually Cricinfo Magazine being a physically published source, should remain italicized. And wow, you play tennis also? I'll nominate the article only when I'm satisfied. Ganguly is the longest I have taken to develop an article. Over 1 week now, that's bad record for me :( --Legolas (talk2me) 10:59, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Had it, but was removed becuase I accidentally used the tool to revert an unsourced addition. Didn't apply for it then as was disgusted. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:09, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Of course!!! But tomorrow. In the meantime you pleaseeee add the alternate text. Hate doing that :P --Legolas (talk2me) 12:13, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful copy-editing! Superb. Well those things can surely be taken care off. I'll finish the article today and nominate it. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:44, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to have lots of bits missing, and is very pro-Gangu YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 08:28, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wherever you feel like I have made a mistake, please go ahead and correct it. My cricket knowledge is not as good as you guys. --Legolas (talk2me) 09:16, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have extended the lead. And tried to make the POV neutral. Other than that I can't help anymore, I did the best I could. I will add the alternate text and move the article. Correct in there from now on. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:59, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I mean, all the backlips with Chappell aren't explained as there were 5-6 of them. Lots of series and whole years just skipped over. Dubious tactics, fielding in WC final, always losing to Aus in ODI finals, politicisation of team etc. The style section is very pro-Gangu wrt to his belligerent style while not discussing the drawbacks of it etc. And not comprehensive YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 02:04, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for ce the article. Do you know how to add the alternate text for the main image? I couldnot find the jargon for it in the template. And thanks for adding the article in my user page. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:47, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What I meant was there is no option to add the alternate text for the main infobox image in the {{Infobox cricketer biography}}. ** Confused** --Legolas (talk2me) 04:05, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Umm, according to this link, the alternate image is still not added. Teh imagealt parameter that you added is not present in teh template, hence I think its not showing. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:31, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I guess we just wait for the reviewer, if he/she asks anything, we tell'em that the parameter itself is not present. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:49, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Launceston Airport[edit]

The List of the busiest airports in Australia doesn't mention Launceston airport which is why i asked for a reference (see Wikipedia:Citing sources).... Back to the point, The article of Launceston Airport has become fragmented and may not make sense to all readers (hence the clean up request). I could clean it up myself but i think someone from Launceston is more suitable to give it the attention it needs. As for the gallery I couldn't agree more, however if you saw the article the way it was before you'd have to agree it was looking more picture than article. There were pictures there that made reference to things not mentioned in the article (tassie's tight Quarantine rules - although the picture just looks like the security screening exit - no sniffer dogs) and i think there is like 3 or 4 pictures of planes parked, Taxi and take off/landing (a bit Excessive). I placed the pictures in the gallery until someone can sort the article out and make sense of it all. One part that needs immediate soting out is the Passenger Statistics section, the two tables need to be brought together like the hobart airport article rather than giving it a spaced out look. And there are issues with the future numbers part of the table. if you read Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_crystal_ball you would notice that speculation of that nature shouldn't be set out in this way, i would instead recommend stating under the table the operators are expecting X amount of people by this year (with a reference). This is constructive critism not a personal attack (i only mention this as our first encounter was far from pleasent), so if you have put major time into editing this article please dont get defensive. I'm simply trying to make the article as good as it can be. If you read Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Airports, i only just yesterday asked for constructive critism on Hobart Airport, as I've put a lot of time into that article and am committed to improving it. If i can be of any further assistance please feel free to write me. Kind regards Wiki ian 10:13, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I’m afraid not. I’ve only had extended dealings with SatuSuro and I do not believe he is from Launceston. As I said before I’m more than happy to put some time into the article (when time provides), but my knowledge on the airport is limited as is my ability to gain good references. So if you like I can have a fiddle around with the article to the best of my ability and rely on your feedback or I can leave it to you.... or somebody else. Get back to me on that. Cheers Wiki ian 10:40, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
life mate....there is never enough time. Will have a play with the article in the coming days (fingers crossed). Later Wiki ian 10:57, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just an update mate, I've started organising the article, but its a slow process, trying to sort out whats needed and whats not and where it should be. When people come to Perth (and certainly when I come back from the eastern states after a trip away) I do notice the general lack of true green around the place. I remember when I first went to Tasmania and it struck me how strikingly green everything was - it was like someone had done a rather strange Photoshop colour adjust on all the country scenes I could remember. Didn't see that again until New Zealand / Canada / Europe. Orderinchaos 00:03, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - yeah it was a good trip, I spent the first three days collecting reference and research materials, and the next two in a Wikimedia-AU in-person strategy meeting, so am quite drained now that I'm finally home. :) And yes - Perth's gone for 78 days now without a drop of rain. *Chuckles* What the hell was that? Tony1? The epitome of perfect and pristine language? About S&S tour, the GA reviewer gave me seven days to copyedit the article as he/she believes that many grammatical errors are present in it. Hence asking you to do a little ce and if you find any inconsistencies in it. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:26, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I did ask Brad. However, he only ce the lead and left, I guess I can't pressurize people. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:35, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Outdent)LOL. Don't say that. Already its so difficult at FAC with Tony1. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:42, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thinking of starting with the Confessions on a Dance Floor articles for FA. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:01, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I will have a GTC soon with the Madonna articles or The Fame articles. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:13, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chit Chat[edit]

Hey Aaroncrick, i do not at all mind general chit chat, but please keep it constructive. Cheers Wiki ian 09:14, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What curly quotes are you refering to? Wiki ian 09:45, 2 February 2010 (UTC) Would you mind pointing out the section of MOS where it says they are frowned upon as I'm having trouble finding it. Cheers Wiki ian 09:47, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is the section I was reading before and i cannot find where it says the "cant do's". However I'm more than happy to correct "Main space" quotations which you do not believe is suitable. All you have to do is tell me.....where, or maybe you could change these yourself? Cheers Wiki ian 10:07, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
you had me worried for a minute, i thought you were referring to Hobart Airport (the section on my talk page you commented on). and i stand corrected, you are correct on the mess hall. I dont know if you've ever listened to them but, i pretty much stopped editing(in detail) that article when their music went to Shit (that is my opinion and not that of wikipedia's....lol). But never the less that is the sorta critism I'm after. Just in future please try to be more specific on my talk page, and create new sections for new topics to prevent confusion. Thanks for the feedback Wiki ian 10:27, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have noticed differences in Talk page preferences, but i believe if they dont specify on the top of the talk page what they want then I'm not at fault. However I'm not too fussy on subheadings, just specify what you're talking about if you decide to write something different under an existing subheading. Once again thanks for your feedback and keep up the good work, you've come along way from when you first started Wiki ian 10:58, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Ganguly GAN[edit]

Wow, its being reviewed faster than I thought. And massive review, going out for lunch with friends now darling, will start on teh changes once I come back, but how to correct the redirects? Dab I can correct, but don't know about redirects. Is that the job of wikied? --Legolas (talk2me) 06:35, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added the persondata, now going to the other reviews. --Legolas (talk2me) 07:55, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Im not shadowing his credibility, just said I find it bad faith when he knew a point was missing and chose to yap about it at the review. Threats of failing the article doesnot go well with me either. --Legolas (talk2me) 09:26, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Another editor SpacemanSpiff has give n some really good points including this one "The section needs some expansion on the B-G Trophy, it's one of the most reviewed bilateral series for India and Ganguly's behavior on and by the field received wide coverage. Second Test, 2000–01 Border-Gavaskar Trophy also needs to be linked to discuss the manner of ending the 16-win run. Likewise the 2003 B-G Trophy needs some more attention as it was again one of India's most reviewed, and the only time India came back from Australia with the B-G Trophy. The Pakistan series can be skipped since Ganguly captained only one Test."
I'm kinda baffled as to where I can find source and content for them, so this one you have to help me out. --Legolas (talk2me) 09:53, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:07, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Need a favour![edit]

Hi again. I've a couple of favours to ask. First, do you know how to do ALTTEXT? I had a quick go with a spectacular lack of success. I need it for images on Rhodes, Hammond and Jardine. Second, still on images, do you know where to get hold of any photos of these players to add to the articles? Copyright would be a problem here, I wondered if you knew of any other decent Australian sources. By the way, I'm probably going for GA for Hammond after all, as the peer review has not really helped and it ain't FAC yet, by a long way. Might put up another GA too as I've tidied up an obscure Yorkshire player, Wilf Barber, who I came across by accident. Cheers. --Sarastro1 (talk) 22:35, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hobart Airport[edit]

Sorry Aaroncrick, I swept your message to one side while I was doing other things and forgot about you. I have already gone through google and cant find the specifics I need on the airport's past. If all goes to plan I'll be going to the state library later in the week to do some more digging. If you see the Hobart Airport talk page, the editor who reviewed the article for B-class brought the 3 dead article links to my attention (there was a lot more at the time), he asked me to replace all the dead links I could, and specify (not remove) the ones I couldn't. One of the links is not actually dead, I'm unsure as to why its saying it is. The article is currently under GA review, and I have conformed to most of the requests asked of me, it's really just the history now holding the article back. About the ALT text, I'm sorry to say I didn't join Wikipedia to describe pictures to the blind, however I may look at this in the future. Regards Wiki ian 09:53, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chappell[edit]

I am not clear how the truth impunes his dignity. The page does not exist for the sole purpose of attacking him so WP:DIGNITY does not apply. He is widely regarded as the worst coach in Indian cricket's history by the Indian public. Polls have shown this repeatedly. Not interested in any edit war here. If you like this buffoon enough to sit and watch his page like a hawk just for reversing any negative edits I don't care about the topic enough to fight over it. I was just passing by reading the article and added a relevant fact to it.... Kk5000 (talk) 07:50, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
