Hi. I've been editing an article that I believe satisfies the Wikipedia guidelines for notability in music after the edits that have been made since you tagged the article. I didn't want to remove the tag without consulting the person who put it there, but I'm just getting into contributing to the wiki, so I'm not sure of the etiquette. WikiProject India Newsletter Volume V, Issue no. 1 - (June 2010)

Project News

WP:IND Newsletter is back! It's been nearly a year since the last edition, but we hope to bring out issues on a more regular basis now. The India Wikiproject was set up to increasing coverage of India-related topics on Wikipedia, and over the past few months the focus has been on improving article quality. A number of the project's featured articles underwent featured article reviews over the past year. Of these, Darjeeling and Flag of India survived the review process, while the rest were demoted. During the same period, Gangtok, Harbhajan Singh, Darjeeling and Mysore were featured on the main page respectively on August 20, September 17, November 6 and December 29, 2009. Meanwhile, articles on topics as diverse as Political history of Mysore and Coorg (1565–1760), Marwari horse and Iravan were promoted as featured articles, and respectively appeared on the main page on March 25, May 17 and May 28, 2010. Consequently, the number of FA-class articles under the project's scope dropped from 67 in August 2009 to 63 in June 2010. The number of good articles, however, saw a more than 40% increase, from 91 to 130 during the same period, while the number of featured lists saw a 33% increase from 12 to 16.

Due to the recent policy changes regarding unreferenced Biographies of Living People (BLPs), an effort was started in January 2010 to source all unreferenced BLPs coming under Wikiproject India. 1200 such articles were identified initially and more were added to the list later. Due to the sourcing effort, the number of Indian unreferenced BLPs is down to 565 currently. During February-April 2010, There was a large scale disruption of Kerala related articles by a Thrissur based IP vandal. Editing from a dynamic IP BSNL connection, the vandal changed dates of birth, death and ages of a number of Malayalam and Tamil film actors. Later he added a few international biographies to his list. He also marked some living people like Arvind Swamy as dead. A month long range block was imposed on his IP range two times and each time he came back to vandalise dates once the block expired. Currently the range has been blocked for three months till September 11, 2010.

Hello Arun, hope your are well - There has been continuous sub-nationalistic vandalism going on in some pages which I wanted to bring to your notice. It would be great if you could take care of them. Kanyakumari District and Padmanabhapuram are two pages where User:CarTick and an IP have been indulging in parochial edits by removing Malayalam fonts again and again without reason and saying bizarre things like that less than 6% there speaks Malayalam (while in reality almost 50% does so).

An admin, User:Dougweller, had banned a vandal (who was using two different IPs and no user name) for removing Malayalam fonts from some of those pages. I think the same guy has appeared again in the form of the new IP (starting with 99). I had a look at your recent rollback contributions and I found that this edit you reverted was clearly not vandalism, and because of this, the IP has reinstated the edit. Dear friend, Looks that you completely missed the point. It is a general practice to include only the official language script in articles relating to geography, places where multiple ethnic people reside. In case of India, You can look for yourself that only Hindi language is shown in its wiki page (because it is the national language) even though constitution of India recognizes 22 other official languages. Take a look at Kanyakumari, Nagercoil or Padmanabhapuram pages, you can find that all these places are located in Tamil Nadu, where Tamil is the official language ( and all those pages have Tamil script added), even though there is a sizable Malayali population there. An act of including Malayalam script in those pages are dealt with much force. In this type of cases a mention is given about Malayalam as the major language in the region in the content of the article rather than scribbling Malayalam script in the article. Similar is the case with Palakkad, which even though in Kerala has a sizable Tamil speaking population.

Regarding the IP, Look at this edit by him. In Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, Majority of the population are Tulu speaking, but the district has a sizable population of Kannadiga, Konkani and Malayalis. Instead of highlighting the fact, the respected IP is trying to hide it. This act can be regarded as an act of language fundamentalism.

Ofcourse... When I was a toddler in Wikipedia, I too had a habit of scribbling language scripts over some geographical pages which had mixed ethnic population. Those days this resulted in edit wars which put me in some or other kind of trouble. After spending some tough early life in Wikipedia, I concentrated more towards content creation and fighting Vandals. I must admit in that case which you pointed, I must have used undo option rather than rollback option and sorry for that part.  arun  talk  13:54, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Justus Scheibert

Hi, we need all the help we can get to make sure that only good articles get created on Wikipedia. However, I was finding that the multiple tagging of the Justus Scheibert was going a bit over the top, after all it was only a three line stub, and especially where we are supposed to be careful not to bite the newbies. Another editor has removed your tags, and I am sure you do not mind. Before patrolling and passing or tagging many more articles, please take a moment to read up on WP:NPP and WP:WPNP, and if these policies are not clear, don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page. Sorry on that part...At first look the article had a scent of vandalism, but when I searched google on the same subject, I found the article to be fair. Excessive tagging

This edit was excessive. The article had some problems, but such excessive tagging seems very bitey. You tagged the article for:

  • RefimproveBLP: The article is not a biograpy of a living person, unless you think that this American Revolutionary War general might still be alive.
  • Copyedit: While the article contained very little text, what text existed was grammatically correct.
  • Confusing: There was nothing confusing about the article. It is about a Prussian general serving in the American Revolution. What's confusing?
  • Expand and lead too short: these are basically the same thing. Pick one or the other.
  • Tone: the tone of the article was fine, for what text existed.
  • Too few opinions: no opinions were expressed and there does not seem to be anything in the article that is a matter of opinion.

Such tagging is not really helpful to the project, and really only serves to slap the hand of the contributor, who may well be discouraged from future contributions. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:06, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Kasaragod Town.
