Youssef Jalwaj-Soubai UUNI 110: 0098 Wiki Review – Korean Wildlife November 19, 2019

The Wikipedia contribution focuses upon the wildlife that is present within the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that exists between North and South Korea. After the Korean Armistice Agreement was put into practice this area of land was allowed to return to a natural state due to the lack of a human presence. This has allowed for a plethora of wildlife to thrive within this revived ecosystem, many of which are under threat of extinction. However, with the ongoing peace it is feared that human encroachment will result in the undoing of this progress. The contribution of the user ALeverich portrays this knowledge in an effective manner. The material is concisely put and has a dominant neutral tone. Furthermore, the structure of the piece is rather short, but the headings that have been established accurately describe the sections they precede. Another notable characteristic is that each section has been equally developed, resulting in a balanced article. Lastly, the sources used are of credible nature and demonstrate to readers that the author is reliable. In the next revision I advise that the author dedicate a short blurb to each endangered species mentioned. Also, the discrepancies that exist between the wildlife in the DMZ versus the wildlife in human occupied sections should be listed. Moreover, spelling and grammar should be checked throughout the piece. In particular, the quote “These spices living in The DMZ include:” needs to be edited.

My peer review includes the following...The author provided reliable sources because I was able to enter them into the ualbany library data finder and double check them. I believe the author structered the information in an appropriate way by referring to both nations and explaining the ecosystems. South and North Korea was talked about and how the tension between the two nations could be at ease. Gave a solid lead by emphasizing the main idea which is wildlife in the demilitarized zones. The information provided is balanced because it's enough information on all leads and ideas. Mainly between South and North Korea and the history surrounding how the two became so hostile and the two ecosystems. The author kept things neutral by not taking sides and providing important facts for both sides in the article. I believe this is essential when creating a narrative. Peer Review

The lead discusses the importance of the DMZ and how a feud between nations unintentionally created a safe haven for wildlife. It’s a good balance between discussing national affairs and also talking about endangered species. This article is not very thorough yet, but the sections that are included are well organized. There are bullets and it’s easy to read through. There is a good balance between talk of political/national problems and the problems facing the wildlife. This balance includes the concern for wildlife as relations between North and South Korea become less tense. Although the article is not very long or in depth yet, I feel a bias towards the betterment and safety of the animals and plants. This is because of how thorough the author dives into endangered species and how the DMZ is assisting them. The sources used seem chock full of information and seem reliable to me. What the author could implement though, is that both Koreas intentionally chose not to disturb this area of land.
