Vandalism charges

Regarding your comments on my User IP page:

You skipped to a warning 4, not 3, because you weren't happy with the change in question. Read the discussion, read WINAD policy, look at other edits made by administrators (User :Stephen), and then think carefully about your claims of "vandalism". As I understand it, multiple consecutive reverts is also against policy. You look like you want to try to be a serious contributor to Wiki, and I respect that, so I have no intention of taking similar action against you. However, vandalism comes in many forms, and you need to take care that you are not guilty yourself.

As a newbie to this project, I would have thought I could look to more experienced community members (regardless of age) for guidance. Instead, you attack me as aggressively as you have when I have not in fact violated any rules. If you want to engage me in discussion about this, I would be more than willing. If you would rather use your understanding of the community to further threaten and harass me, you will probably be successful at chasing away a potential contributor.

Hello, ACBest. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:CarterNobel.jpg) was found at the following location: User:ACBest/School. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 19:43, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello ACBest, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Winvista.png) was found at the following location: User:ACBest/Sandbox. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not re-add the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Please note that it is possible that the image on your page is included vie a template or usebox. In that case, please find a free image for the template or userbox. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 07:33, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

GAC backlog elimination drive

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 00:33, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Can i create?

Can i create a bot that is manually-assisted? ACBestMy ContributionsAutograph Book 08:08, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

I am unsure of what you are asking, perhaps elaborate at the Help desk. Anyone can run a manually asssited bot, under their own Wikipedia account, they don't need to ask permission, as long as there are not too many edits made. An example would be Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser. If you are going to make fast edits, or a lot of edit, or controversial edits it would be a good idea to set up a bot account (even if the edits are manually assisted) and get permission following Wikipedia:Bot policy.--Commander Keane 08:17, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
I mean like, create an account (User:ACBot) and with my assistance it would do little tasks round some pages, not too many edits involved. Also, i would be using the AWB, im just installing .NET 2.0 now! ACBestMy ContributionsAutograph Book 08:30, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Well Wikipedia:Bot policy will explain what to do, if it is not clear then ask on the talk page there.--Commander Keane 08:32, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
So am i allowed or not? I'm confused! i was looking, and am i allowed to create User:ACBot just to do little edits using AWB, pending approval to use AWB that is... ACBestMy ContributionsAutograph Book 08:57, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

No you can't run it, you need to follow the procedure from the page I have link you to. Basically:

  1. Creating a talk page for the bot, describing its functions
  2. Listing it on Requests for approvals
  3. Getting the go-ahead from someone in the approvals group

There's nothing really preventing you from starting and maintaining as many subpages as you like for various devious purposes. No permission is needed as far as I am aware. You can request deletion of temporary pages by adding the {{db-author}} tag when you are done with them. --Finngall talk 18:05, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Big brother eye logo s8.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Big brother eye logo s8.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:23, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Sandbox deleted

As per the discussion which has taken place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australia#Sandbox, I've deleted your personal sandbox which was previously at User:ACBest/TempSandbox. The reason for this action was that the contents, mostly WikiProject templates, were populating many categories with this page. As you have not edited this page for 5 days, I felt it was best deleted to avoid unnecessary category clutter.

Let me know if you require any assistance with Wikiproject templates. I'd be happy to give you a hand if you wish to get your own template off the ground for any WikiProject you may be a part of. Cheers. -- Longhair\talk 06:15, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

User:ACBest/Signature Notice

what licence can i put on the aero picture i just uploaded? Thanks ACBestMy ContributionsAutograph Book

I think {{Product-cover}} is the most appropriate for this image. Remember, it's only fair use, so if it isn't actively used on a mainspace article, the image will be deleted. Cheers, Tangotango (talk) 16:16, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Glasgow_station_logo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Glasgow_station_logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 07:30, 28 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 07:30, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}} is my glasgow station logo ok now? ACBestMy ContributionsAutograph Book 17:24, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

No, although the image now has source information, it also needs a fair use rationale, explaining why the image is fair use. Try to address each of the the fair use criteria in turn, explaining why the image meets that criterion. --ais523 17:35, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Userpage semi-protection

Hi. Your userpage was previously semi-protected. When you moved it to User:ACBest/Secondary, the semi-protection followed; as a result, User:ACBest/Secondary is now protected while User:ACBest is not. If this was unintended, you may wish to request unprotection of the subpage and re-protection of your userpage. Thanks – Gurch 19:03, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

This image needs a fair-use rationale, if one is not provided, it will be deleted. GDonato (talk) 19:36, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 23:04, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Image:EWSlogo.jpg

I have tagged Image:EWSlogo.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. If this image is being used as a link target instead of displayed inline, please add {{not orphan}} to the image description page to prevent it being accidentally marked as orphaned again. – Quadell (talk) (random) 21:14, 17 July 2007 (UTC) {{helpme}}

I´m sorry, but this seems to be a case of copyright violation. As long as you do not have the permission of the photographer or the owner of the rights you are not allowed to upload this image on Wikipedia. You could contact the owner of the website and ask for permission to use the photo. He can tell you, which licenses are used on the webpage.--Thw1309 08:25, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but according to WP:BOT, Unflagged bots (including bots in trial periods) should limit edits to no more than 2 per minute. ... Larger delays are always allowed, and it is recommended that bots run with larger delays during peak hours, and days (such as Mondays). Ideally, bots should be run at a rate that permits human editors to review the bot's edits if the need arises.--Werdan7T @ 19:51, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
