That's fine (although you probably would have been better off discussing it before doing another two days work on it). We can discuss merging the two projects. Since nobody but you has signed up to your project yet and Stefan has announced his version, I suggest we merge your content over to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sharks. Once we're happy with that we can replace your userboxes on the shark pages. What do you think? Yomangani 09:52, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - :Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sharks does exist, so that's not really a problem (It's not my project though). Do you agree it's not productive to have two projects with the same aims? Yomangani 10:03, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - ::I don't think we should be talking about defending a personal project: that's somewhat against Wikipedia culture. Let's start from the beginning: - :#We agree that we shouldn't have 2 projects - :#Nobody wants to lose the work they've done (Stefan has done the majority of the work on the other project, but I'm sure he'd agree) - ::Therefore the solution is to merge the projects. I propose merging to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sharks as personally I think it is a nicer name, and is inline with Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cetaceans in being pluralised. Let me know what you think. Yomangani 10:51, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - :::It does sound harsh. Wikipedia is a collaboration - no editor owns a page outside of their User space. However, since you obviously won't agree with me, let's wait to see if we can get a concensus on how to progress. Yomangani 11:03, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - ::::May I ask you whether you will be willing to accept any suggestions from Stefan? Or is your position that you will defend your project against all comers? Just trying to gauge if there is any middle ground here. Yomangani 11:30, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - - - :Why do we talk on personal talk pages? This is a project discussion!!! Stefan 17:08, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - :Nevermind, I answer here. - :I suggest that we merge! Stefan 17:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - :I created 'my', project sharks 14 october 2005, anyone that wanted to find it could easily do so by a simple search! I have been trying to find members since then, since a project needs many contributing members to be worth the effort I have waited to make it 'official', the official policy suggests Generally, a WikiProject should involve at least 3-5 articles and have at least 5 editors involved before it is really worth the time and effort to set up a Wikiproject structure, so I did wait. I do not want to fight, I just want to make wikipedia have the best shark articles! I do not understand why you do not discuss this on the talk page of your project, wikipedia is all about consensus, you do not own anything, even if I started the project sharks that does not mean that I decide, everytihng in wikipedia is published under GNU Free Documentation License, I have argued with Yomangani, we discussed and he convinced me that he was right, and I'm sure we will argue again, and I am sure I will 'win' some other time :-), nevermind all is about wikipedia, not my pride or 'my' shark project! All you did was state that you would have your project up and running soon, no discussion. What do you want? To run a project? or write articles? What I want is to have likeminded people to discuss, to help, to get help from to make the shark articles in wikipedia very good!!! If you want the same thing please help us in Wikipedia:WikiProject Sharks, if you want to run a project on your own then keep your project. - :Also you do not need to remove any work that you have done, merge it, copy/paste! Do you think I want to remove the work I have done over the last 10 months, lets use the best of what all of us have done, some of 'my' project is better, some of 'yours' is better, (some of 'yours' is copied from 'mine' :-), lets use the best of both in one place? - :Also also, I have both bot flag and autowikibrowser rights, so to add project tags on articles I can do very fast and easy, why spend so much time doing it manually? Discuss and ask for help! - :Also I am moving house so I will pack my computer soon, and will not be able to do much updates for a few days, but in general I will always give in to consensus and I will always discuss. Take it easy! Stefan 17:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - - Good luck with the project, sorry we couldn't come to an agreement. Yomanganitalk 22:48, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - ::Lenny, I would seriously ask you to take it easy, do not fight over project boxes on talk pages, work on the project (or write on some of the articles!) you must understand that we would be a bit upset if you started to add 'your' project boxes to all shark articles right now. Wait a while and see if we can not come to an understanding? I do not want this to become a edit war! That is a bit silly, lets try to work together? Stefan 23:33, 10 August 2006 (UTC) - :::Dont you think that 2 projects is a bit to much? Did you realise that I started to state VERY clearly that I wanted to merge, (not nessesarily merge 'your' project into the sharks project or the otyher way), just merge! THEN I asked you to join us in project sharks, you did not want to talk, you just stated CASE CLOSED, why dont you want to talk? How are you planning to run a project if you can not discuss? are you planning to run it on you own with no members? If so why the need for user boxes? or even a project? - :::I do not want to put two userboxes on all shark articles, I think it is bad, I think having both fish and shark(or sharks) box is a bit to much, but three boxes is not very nice at all. Why do you need to publish 'your' project so much? it is what? 3-4 days old? Give it some time! Lets agree to no boxes for 1 month and then we see if we can merge our projects and agree on one project during that time? - :::What is it really that you want to do with 'your' project that we are not trying to do with the sharks project, we want the same, lets talk and not make fools of ourselves, lets discuss how we can merge?? Stefan 08:08, 11 August 2006 (UTC) - ::::No my reson for you not adding boxes on shark articles is that there are 2 'competing' projects, I do not like that and would like for us to merge, I think 2 boxes on each page is silly, so Im offering a compromise that we try to not use boxes on any page for 1 month! Why the rush? project sharks have 5 members and no box so saying that you can not get members without user boxes is wrong! - ::::Can you please also answer what you want with 'your' project that is different from the 'other' project so that we can see if we can work together? Stefan 08:21, 11 August 2006 (UTC) - :::::So basically we want the same thing, except that I think you are a not so NPOV, but in general I agree, so that means that our projects want the same thing, so why can we not even discuss how to merge the 2 projects?? Would you agree to at least discuss a merge? Stefan 08:54, 11 August 2006 (UTC) - ::::::OK, good! That is progress! - ::::::Is there anything that you say must be true for a merge to happen, things like, you have the final word, it must be in 'your' project space or anything at all, or can we discuss openly and see what happens? If you have any musts like that please list then, becuase I can agree to anything as long as it makes sense. Stefan 09:20, 11 August 2006 (UTC) - :::::::Of course! Not sure if you say ok to merge and sharks name? If so great! Please redo the logo. Welcome onboard, lets make the shark articles better!!!!! I liked your list of articles, it is very good with lists like that, I makes me find new articles that I did not know existsed that I can help update, I want to have all of that page! Is it hand made or do you do it automatically? If handmade it will be lots of work keeping it up to date though, but nevermind, you have already done most of the hard work!! Excepy for that most of what you have is already in the other project, I must compare more closesly to see what more should be included, please help your self, I'm very busy moving house now so can not do much. Stefan 09:56, 11 August 2006 (UTC) - ::::::::Yes, I can understand that it took a while! Did you make the logo on your own? If so why the copyright and fair use clause? If it is your picture, which I assume it must be it should be share alike or something like that? Anyway I added it to the project page, can not get it in a nice place together with the todo template, but it is ok as it is now. Stefan 10:21, 11 August 2006 (UTC) - I think Stefan is in Singapore and he's currently moving house, so don't be surprised if it takes a little longer for him to respond. You could move your userboxes over to the merged project - that's something it is definitely lacking. I'll have a look later and suggest what I think should be used from each of the projects, if you like. Yomanganitalk 12:48, 11 August 2006 (UTC) - :Yes! And this is last post from old house, I say write articles!!! update project!! hope I have a working computer in a few days :-)Stefan 00:20, 12 August 2006 (UTC) - ::Hi! Now back in new home, at least computer is up and running, most everything else is not though, please start to merge, I would take your list of articles and move it but am afraid that you will mind. I will not be spending a lot of time writing on wikipedia the next 1-2 weeks, but I will check and will reply to messages on my talk page. For project specifics I think the discussions should take place on the project talk page. Stefan 09:57, 13 August 2006 (UTC) - :::Nevermind, if members is what you want, bragging right and all that, I do not think I'm interested with that attitude, I will continue to try to write good articles, have fun! Stefan 11:04, 13 August 2006 (UTC) - - :::That's fine. Like I said previously, I think it is good idea to merge but nobody is going to fight you for it. I'll carry on working on the original project, good luck with yours. Yomanganitalk 17:57, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
