Voice your opinion (talk page)

TheFearow (talk · contribs) - Hi everyone, I have been a registered wikipedian for over a year and have been editing lots over the last few months. I run a bot, DeadBot, and also contribute to the DEP list.

I have done a bit of wikifying, and I also do newpage patrol when I can. I do vandalism reversion etc, mainly on pages on my watchlist, which are commonly vandalised pages.

I also watch out for "Newbie User Contribs" which are new users contributions to the User namespace, which lets me find a lot of userpage vandalism and experimenting users.

I also find a lot of editing tests, by looking at the filelinks of Example.jpg, which is added by the Image button on the toolbar.

I also find many vandalism attempts using this, where they have clicked all the buttons as well as adding vandalism.

Before you comment on my low edit count, consider this: The purpose of a RFA is to see if the user is able to be trusted with the tools. Edit count has nothing to do with it. For instance, no-one is going to de-admin a member of the Wikimedia Foundation because they don't edit wikipedia much and they only have 500 edits. We KNOW that they can be trusted, and it wasn't based on edit count. It was based on knowing the person. It's like in statistics: You can get (approximately) the same result with a survey of 30-100 people that you can get with 1000 people. Its the same with edits. You can tell if a person is responsible just as well with 500 edits than you can with 5000.

Questions for the candidate[edit]

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. You may wish to answer the following optional questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
A: I want to help out in the Speedy Deletion categories, which are often backlogged. I also want to help out with PROD's, unblocks, and AIV. I also will help out in the admin backlogs, such as page protection, and proxy blocking (I am relatively good at finding proxies). I would also help out wherever else there is a backlog, if possible.
2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
A: I would say NP patrol, and DEP's. If it counts, my bot, which is very useful. I have slowed down on my NP patrol lately, but I am still doing it and will continue doing it now that Twinkle is fixed and I can use the CSD functions again.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: I have been in several misunderstandings regarding speedy tags, and one where I removed a tag and improved an article, becuase I had misread the name as a notable person I had recently seen on the national news. I have had a couple other minor issues, including a dispute with an anonymous person claiming to be working for a company relating to Nordstrom, which kept reverting the article to "the entry that was the most correct" which is (approximately) their words. I had a possible 3RR problem reverting them, but I believe it was a clear-cut case of vandalism so it did not count.
4. Have you ever been blocked?
A: I have been blocked once, due to an autoblock of an IP which (due to a bug) caused almost all edits to appear to come from it. I believe the IP was 66.230.200.144.
