"The Oshawa Generals are a junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League. [1]They are based in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. [1]The hockey team obtained their name from General Motors, a sponsor with its Canadian headquarters in Oshawa.[1] In November 2016, the General Motors Centre changed its name to Tribute Communities Centre. [1]Its 184 graduates to the National Hockey League are second in the OHL.[[1] The Generals have won the Memorial Cup five times, as well as a record thirteen Ontario Hockey League Championships, the J. Ross Robertson Cup."[1]

History of the Memorial Cup

The Memorial Cup, formerly known as the OHA Memorial Cup (Ontario Hockey Association), is an honourable trophy to receive in the North American Ontario Hockey League (OHL).[2] The Ontario Hockey Association bestowed the award in March of 1919, following the end of World War One, to honour those Canadian soldiers who fought for the civilians and the country of Canada.[2] As of 1983, the Memorial Cup became known as an international trophy proceeding a hockey tournament that was hosted outside of Canada in an arena in Oregon at the Portland Memorial Coliseum. [2]

The Bobby Orr years (1962–1966)

"During the 1964-65 season, the Generals moved into their new home at the Civic Auditorium. [1]That season Orr broke his own record, scoring 34 goals. [1]During the 1965-66 season, the team returned to the Memorial Cup, led by Captain Orr. [1]The team had not had a Memorial Cup appearance in 22 years.[1] Bobby Orr scored 38 goals during the season and helped the team defeat the Kitchener Rangers to win the J. Ross Roberston Cup.[1]  During the Memorial Cup Series, Orr played injured for the majority of the time, the team lost to the Edmonton Oil Kings in six games. After that season ended many players graduated from the team and moved on, manager Blair Wren became the GM of the NHL’S Minnesota North Stars, and Bobby Orr went on to play for the Boston Bruins.
