FAie enough, but 'Not going anywhere' is a minimualist device used to a create plaintive and meditave tone, and still melody is circular and haunting. The two you're mentioning said they were friends of someone who edits Wikipedia (I forgot to ask who); the gentleman said he occasionally edits, but his wife said she'd only edited once. cite templates

Thanks for your note, Susan. Templates make my head spin, and I always recommend that people avoid using them . They were designed for newbies who'd never properly looked at or written a reference list, but soon spread like leprosy throughout the project—it's a pity, because they're uncoordinated subject to change at developers' whims, and I like to think that these things can be controlled at article level.

Have you thought of choosing "no preference" for your dates? I believe that all WPians should do that, since it allows them to see in display-mode the many inconsistencies and wrong global choices of date format in our articles—in effect, what our readers have been seeing. I wish I could help here, but my one book on the subject [6] doesn't mention her. If you can find a source that discusses the work specifically, it might help to do something like what I did with John Goodwin Lyman to save Image:Woman with a White Collar.jpg from deletion: Split off a separate section called "work", and in it discuss the qualities of the artwork itself, etc. Hope this helps... Lisa del Giocondo

Dear SusanLesch, you have been a major contributor to the Lisa del Giocondo page. In the revision history I saw that you redirected Lisa Gherardini to Lisa del Giocondo on 10 October 2007. As a reason for that you stated "expert says her name changed at marriage". I wonder who that expert was and what contemporary source he can show to support his claim. I could not find any source to that effect. On the contrary, I can provide dozens of examples that women in the early 16^th century did not change their surnames when they became married. This issue means that the page should be renamed or relocated to Lisa Gherardini. There may also be some other consequences. HollyML14 (talk) 07:26, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Dear SusanLesch, I read Pallanti, Zöllner and Sassoon. Pallanti did archival work and collected information without much interpretation. Very good. Zöllner collected some information and does a lot of interpretation. Not so good. On Lisa Gherardini, Sassoon repeats what Zöllner has written. Nothing new there. On the issue of name change there is no information to be found in all of the above. Zöllner implies that Lisa Gherardini is equivalent to Lisa del Giocondo, but he does not provide any source. I think he simply believes. He must provide proof for his assumptions. It is neither my nor anybody else's job to prove him wrong, he simply is wrong if there is evidence to the contrary. And there is. Here is a list of women from the late 15^th, early 16^th centuries. They were all born, lived and died with their fathers' surnames, no change of name when they became married:
Lucrezia Tornabuoni, wife of Piero de' Medici
Clarice Orsini, wife of Lorenzo "il Magnifico" de' Medici
Alfonsina Orsini, wife of Piero II. de' Medici
Laudomia Acciaioli, wife of Pierfrancesco "the Elder" de' Medici
Elsbeth Binsenstock, wife of Hans Holbein the Younger
Katharina von Bora, wife of Martin Luther
Argula von Stauff, wife of Friedrich von Grumbach
Agnes Frey, wife of Albrecht Dürer the Younger
Barbara Holper, wife of Albrecht Dürer the Elder
and so on ....
And it also applies to Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo!
The practice of name change became slowly established in the second half of the 16^th century, and only in protestant countries.
Pallanti finds two Lisas, one Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo and one Lisa del Giocondo, sister of this Francesco. Hence a contemporary source referring to "Lisa del Giocondo" means exactly that: Lisa del Giocondo and not Lisa Gherardini. That's why I believe that the titel of this page is wrong.
Ah, yes, Vespucci's margin note: That's overrated. It basically says that Leonardo was working on a painting of Lisa del Giocondo (not Gherardini) without any description of the painting. It could be any painting of a woman! It's far from solving Mona Lisa "once and for all". Even the Louvre puts it in perspective. Read this Interview with Vincent Delieuvin. I found Sassoon to be fresh research rather than a copy of Zöllner. I am not opposed to moving the article, but first would you double check with Prof. Dr. Frank Zöllner? He is after all one of the eight people listed under Documentation at the Louvre and the author of, Leonardo's Portrait of Mona Lisa del Giocondo. That is also the title of the work in Pallanti (Plate I: Portrait of Mona Lisa del Giocondo). Vincent Delieuvin also mentions "Florentinerin Lisa del Giocondo." -03:47, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Dear SusanLesch, when I referred to Sassoon as "nothing new there" I meant the Gherardini/del Giocondo part, not the rest. Vincent Delieuvin's mentions Lisa del Giocondo because that is what the margin note says. That cannot be denied. However, he also says that there is no certainty that it refers to the Louvre's Mona Lisa, because "there is no description of the painting" and that Leonardo "had been working on several other female portraits at that time".
Frank Zöllner calls her Lisa del Giocondo, Pallanti calls her Lisa Gherardini, except for Plate I that you mentioned, Delieuvin speaks about Lisa del Giocondo, however, on the Louvre's website she is called Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco Giocondo. This is very confusing, especially when you consider the fact, that women did not change their surname when they became married as I mentioned before. Have the art-historians overlooked this detail? • I suspect that you have included mention of the relevant information in the Alan Kotok article The problem is that the material is not rounded out. I have looked for some similar articles so that you could see by example what I mean. The best I could find was the following: Stuart Milner-Barry, Ronald Fedkiw, Otto Julius Zobel. I was wondering why you reintroduced the sentence about Twitter being "akin to an IRC client" to the Twitter article. It doesn't particularly add to the article, and isn't a noticeable comparison. It's also an opinion, placed right at the start of a technical, factual section. I can maybe see it staying in the article, but I wouldn't say it belongs there. Frankly when they are this busy anybody is lucky if they choose your article. I am only in the queue and helping because of their backlog header. If you can predict which queue on which day in advance I can try to add it there. I think the queues are six hours each and there are six queues and two prep areas but am not sure. Harvard citation templates

Hi, Susan, the problem seems to be that you were using both the publication date (or year) and the original publication year: I'd not done that before, but Template:Cite book gives useful information on how to show original publication dates with a |origyear= parameter, adding "first published" or "composed". It's all a bit of a maze, but I've found it handy to keep a link to Wikipedia:Citation templates which gives the basic options: Template:Harvard citation gives more detail on using Harvard templates. Until recently you had to use Template:Citation to get the link from the Harvard ref. down to the book name, but the "cite book" etc. templates now do the same: the general rule is to follow the system already used on the page. To get it to work I've now omitted the original publication year from the Harvard references: as far as I can see that's the preferred option, but there doesn't seem to be anything specific in these linked pages or in Wikipedia:Citing sources. If you wanted to do it the other way round, guess you could use the |edition= parameter: not sure if that's legitimate! Go to the PK talk page and search on "plagiarism", several times -- I've pointed out several violations, one of them only in the Talk page, and possibly just a slip, but several others in actual article text elsewhere -- and these 4-5 cases are only in the last 7 weeks of an editor who has been very active since spring 2006.

• has made claims (on the talk page) that PK holds views "far" from the mainstream

This is pretty rich, coming from a self-described anarcho-capitalist like Vision Thing; but the material point here is that Vision Thing seems unable to provide any real substance for those claims. It just seems obstructive.

At the same time, he and other editors are, I believe, over-interpreting RS policy so as to rule out quite a lot in the way balanced discussion of PK's many notable controversies.

But wait, it gets better (I mean worse.) There's what one (apparently non-Croatian) anarcho-capitalist blogger seems to have written himself in 2008 [8]:

Some anarcho-capitalists, such as Rothbard, accept the nonaggression axiom on an intrinsic moral or natural law basis. [...] Alternatively, others, such as Friedman, take a consequentialist or egoist approach; rather than maintaining that aggression is intrinsically immoral, they maintain that a law against aggression can only come about by contract between self-interested parties who agree to refrain from initiating coercion against each other.

and these words appear almost verbatim in an edit 2009 [9], unattributed by self-identified Croatian Vision Thing (apart from an opaque comment on the edit about "NAP from AC article", where Wikipedia readers wouldn't see it):

Think it can't get any worse? Sorry: there's this [10] part of paragraph from Vision Thing:

The communist society Marx envisioned emerging from capitalism has never been implemented, and it remains theoretical. However, the term "Communism", especially when the word is capitalized, is often used to refer to the political and economic nations under communist parties which claimed to be the dictatorship of the proletariat.

which was apparently lifted verbatim from a book, Communism for Know-It-Alls [11]. In that same edit by Vision Thing, he lifts, verbatim, without attribution, the following

After the success of the Red October Revolution in Russia, many socialist parties in other countries became communist parties, owing allegiance of varying degrees to the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (see Communist International).

That appears in two books by Alan Isaacs [12], one of them published in 1985.

Well, I'm finding yet more instances of plagiarism, but isn't this enough for you? I'm hardly back to the end of May 2009, and Vision Thing has been editing since spring 2006. How did people miss these violations for so long? It wasn't even hard to find any of these rip-offs: you either check Vision Thing's cited source for comparison, or -- where the writing seems particularly well-crafted for someone who writes rather poorly on talk pages and in edit summaries -- just search on the Web (but especially Google Books).

We've had a serial WP:PRESERVE violator lecturing us about Wikipedia policy, and for months (if not years, who knows?) he's been plagiarizing wildly. With a streak like this in 2-1/2 months, somebody's going to have to review ALL of his edits to make sure he hasn't put Wikipedia into serious copyright violation. And that could take a long time, because he's made quite a career of editing Wikipedia.

Not only does Vision Thing have no place in the discussion or editing of this particular BLP. Vision Thing has no business being on Wikipedia at all. My AGF only goes so far, and it doesn't include people who lecture others for not supplying (actually unnecessary) page numbers in otherwise excellent citations, deleting their entire contributions because of that supposed error, but who somehow don't know what constitutes plagiarism. Vision Thing's Plagiarisms: Excelsior!

Yet more in this [13] Vision Thing edit:

To avoid the influence of National Socialists in his Austrian homeland, in 1934 Mises left for Geneva (Switzerland), where he was a professor at the Graduate Institute of International Studies until 1940. In 1940 he emigrated to New York City. He was a visiting professor at New York University from 1945 until he retired in 1969.

That's taken almost (see below) verbatim from von Mises' biography at a Libertarian online economics encyclopedia. [14]. What?! Extreme libertarians violating the intellectual property rights of more moderate ones?! But of course! Copyright would have to be defended by governments, and government is what anarcho-capitalists want to get rid of!

This rip-off is doubly interesting in how it initially ducks back down into mere, cowardly paraphrase: it's further evidence of Vision Thing's project of replacing "Nazi" with "National Socialist", wherever possible. The plagiarized source comfortably uses "Nazi":

To avoid the Nazi influence in his Austrian homeland, in 1934 Mises left for Geneva ....

Ostensibly, this elaboration is necessary because, VT says in an edit summary elsewhere, "Nazi" is "pejorative". VT doesn't think Wikipedia should be hurting the feelings of any Nazis. It may be relevant to note that Vision thing has been a long term problematic editor. It was suspected that he is the reincarnation of a previously banned editor. [15] There was a case brought against him in 2007 [16]. Since then, a favorite tactic has been to troll pages, baiting editors he disagrees with into breaking 3RR, and then reporting them. If you review the editors he has reported for 3RR, almost all of them are long term, level headed editors with many positive contributions to Wikipedia. Whereas, almost all of Vision thing's edits have been POV pushing, not encyclopedia building. I am tempted to start a case, but I am loathe to put in the time necessary. It appears that Checkuser has been run unsuccessfully against Vision Thing for User:RJII (twice) and User:Hogeye. User:Introman was recently blocked as a suspected sock of RJII. Comparison suggests that there is creative content in the article incorporated verbatim without indication of such as required by policy & guideline at WP:NFC. For example, "she made hundreds of speeches on behalf of the Mexican community", added after the Corensearchbot tag was removed, is found verbatim at the source. "In 1932, Hernández became San Antonio's first Mexican female radio announcer" differs by one word from the source: "In 1932 María Hernández became San Antonio's first Mexican female radio announcer." "The family moved to San Antonio in 1918 where they began political activities in 1924" differs only superficially from the source's "The family moved to San Antonio in 1918 and began political activities in 1924." Hi there. It seemed to me that the information on tonight's health care vote more logically belonged under an entry that detailed similar, across-party-line votes, rather than creating an entirely distinct subheading on a topic for which we had only one sentence. I'm wondering how that better serves the reader, especially when considering the fact that we're trying to present an encyclopedic picture, as opposed to a breaking-news account. — Bdb484 (talk) 05:39, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I don't follow Cao, only took an interest in making the article accessible. I thought that "condensing references" in your edit summary meant that, but instead found (the first time) a truncated table of contents. Ali Forney DTK nomination

Hello SusanLesch, First I would like to that yoiu for helping to review nominations to DYK. I have a question about the approval of the nomination of Ali Forney. The fact for the hook is not cited at the end of the sentence containing the hook as per rules. This allows readers the ability to verify the information quickly and read more if wished from the included source. It also help if an editor or reader disputes the hook while on the main page. Ali Forney etc

Sorry about the mix-up. I returned the Ali Forney hook to prep #1 as there were too many bio hooks in the update. Somebody then decided to return the hook from prep to the suggestions page for reasons unknown.

In regards to the update itself, first of all, thanks for chipping in to help us out! However, it looks as if you need to read our Rules of thumb for preparing updates. Specifically, there shouldn't be more than four bio hooks in a queue, and hooks on the same or similar topics should not be placed adjacent to one another. BTW, I should add - in case there was a misunderstanding - that when I referred to "some awful hooks" in that update, I was not referring to the Forney hook! Feedback request: Territorial era of Minnesota

Hi,

I noticed you have been involved in Minnesota-related FA articles and was wondering if you might have a little free time to offer advice. Please do not feel obligated.

A little while ago I created Territorial era of Minnesota and it has gone through a peer review. I was thinking of putting it up for GA but I already have a couple of articles in queue there and the backlog is extremely long. I have heard some editors have been skipping GA and going straight for FA (something I have never done before). I was interested in some unbiased advice as to whether trying to do that with this article might be do-able. Mind you, I'm not asking for a thorough review, just a perspective on whether, at a glance, the article looks like it might be close enough to make it worth trying, perhaps with some copyediting from some other editors.

Music of Minnesota

Susan-- you have made excellent progress here, and against some very strong initial headwinds. Congratulations.

I have no special knowledge of the subject and am less active now, but a couple of thoughts come to mind:

• The Minnesota Orchestra, in its prior incarnation as the Minneapolis Symphony, had a an international reputation in the 30's under Eugene Ormandy. (That was one of the reasons the orchestra's name change was so controversial-- folks saw no need to surrender name identification created by its old reputation.) Its stature has risen in recent years, and NYTimes has a number of articles on its recordings and well-received recent European tour.
• The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra at some point (under Davies?), was referred to as the best small orchestra in the world, or words to that effect. Google is little help here, unfortunately; the only source I found was a blog.
• Although it comes no longer, the Metropolitan Opera came to Northrup for years as part of its national tour. I can't remember when that ended, but it did contribute to interest in opera in the state.
• Choral music could be mentioned; perhaps Philip Brunelle, the Bach Society, and the excellent program at St. Olaf College.

It would be nice to get a music specialist to make suggestions here, but I cannot think of a candidate we could enlist in that.

Susan, I was thinking regarding the Piccard article, if you can get the few pages of the source to me (DeVorkin) that deals with the General Mills issue (perhaps if you have a scanner, you could email them), I'd be happy to try to write up what happened and why they were sacked. I tried looking for the book on Google and Amazon, but there are no page views, at least not where I am; Google Books varies in which countries are allowed to see what. It can often be easier for an outsider to summarize a source—when you've rewritten something several times, it can be harder to work out what needs to be said. Honest question

Hiya Susan, I was looking around the NASA related articles tonight and happened to notice that work on the Jeannette Piccard article has stopped. I then noticed that it apparently failed FAC, for which I'm truly sorry, considering how much work you put into it and how important it seemed that the article attain featured status. Now that the FAC is out of the way though, I wanted to ask, essentially, why? I'm not trying to be flippant, or mean, or anything like that, I'm just honestly curious to hear from someone as to why GA/FA (or, for that matter, DYK/ITN entries and even barnstars) is important to you? There's obviously something to it, since so many people seem to think that such things are important, but... I don't get it, I guess. You nominate an article, and some small group of editors choose to "award" you for it (right?), but... for what? I'd be really interested in reading an explaination, if and when you have the time to provide one (or anyone else, for that matter...). Thank you in advance, and good luck with your other efforts!

Seems like a good question. Can you imagine going to school and not trying to get an "A"? I can't. Also while Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that "anyone can edit", the articles that people write from memory without citations are bad for the place. Ah, that makes sense. I don't subscribe to such a viewpoint; that Wikipedia can draw parallels to school and grades. I can at least understand it though, so thank you for the reply!

There are two points that I would like to make in reply, only one of which is actually important. I don't subscribe to the parallel with school grades simply because (and I hope that yourself and others don't take this personally or anything, because it's definitely not) I don't see why I should accept the equivalent of a grade from another editor. That's not too important though, since it's only a difference in outlook which effectively has no real significance on how things work. The one minor issue that I see with such a view, is I think that those of you who seek out the awards tend to "show ownership" more then others. The philosophy itself explains that "problem" however, and I can easily deal with it as long as I understand where it's coming from (not that I'm trying to paint whole groups of editors with the same brush, but... it does explain some things that I've observed, at least).

The issue that I think is actually important, is that we all should watch out that we're not making assumptions about each other. Above, you seem to be implying that those who don't seek out GA, FA, and other awards, tend to undervalue references. I can speak to my personal view, which is that I believe that the references are more important then the content (more useful would probably be a better characterization).

Anyway, thanks again for the explaination, I really appreciate it. My apologies for pinging you on your talk page, and posting what turned out to be a mini-essay here. This really has been an issue that I've been hoping to gain a better understanding of for quite some time, though.

Edits to Lists of People from Minnesota

Wondering why you warned me about making changes to the List of people from Minnesota? I removed people who are not from Minnesota - you had many sports figures on there who simply played for a MN team, but had no background in the state otherwise. By that logic, we could go ahead and add Cher or Neil Diamond to the page, after all they have played numerous shows in the State.

Hi. I apologize for the warnings. Kofi Annan is marked "§" for "not born in Minnesota" (as far as I know he only went to school in Minnesota). I only checked a couple of your changes and found that the person probably lived there for some amount of time. I agree sports are overrated (and don't necessarily mean the person lived there) I think you have to be careful about making this large amount of removals. Tell you what. Why not ask at WikiProject Minnesota? You might find some support for removing a lot of names. I will try to clean up your talk page. Hello. In January you added a citation to a book from the "Webster's Quotations" series published by Icon Group International to this article. Unfortunately, Icon Group International is not a reliable source - their books are computer-generated, with most of the text copied from Wikipedia (most entries have [WP] by them to indicate this). Tea Party Funding

Susan,

In good faith, do you really believe those are non-partisan edits or sources and they are worded in NPOV?

• Footnote 134, New York Observer article doesn't support the statement and it is not noted as a breadbasket of major, notable or reliable main-stream American media nor does it attempt to incorporate main stream media articles within it's argument so it's conclusion in support of this statement is weak and from a moderate's view perhaps a bit hysterical. The Observer is most noted as a weekly source of weekly social activities. Non-notable, non-reliable.

• Footnote 135, The New Yorker article covered lots about the widely labeled "libertarian" Koch brothers, much of it hearsay and shallow on supporting documentation, but failed to effectively link them to the Tea Party movement that the mainstream media consistently labels as "conservative". It was an interesting article and I appreciate that you linked it for my own education but much of it has been disputed. As a wiki consumer disgruntled with open partisanship, it doesn't meet the NPOV test. Notable publication, reliability is questionable.

• Footnote 136, NYT but an Op-Ed from what most readers consider to be a liberal news paper citing heavily the New Yorker article which in the military would be called "circular reporting". Op-Eds from the NYT can be both notable and reliable but subject to extra scrutiny since they are opinion pieces.

• Footnote 137. Winnipeg Free Press...ummm...that's a Canadian paper. When did that become notable within the US? Surely you can find a domestic source. First tier papers like the NY Times, Washington Post or LA Times didn't have anything so you had to resort to Winnipeg?

As a disgruntled wiki consumer and moderate I will protest what appears to be unsatisfactory and partisan sources. Please look again at the sources you cited. Keep in mind that the sources must adhere to the higher standard of BLP since the subjects are still alive. I am considering removing all but the NYT article as sources for the funding section of the article and adding some weasel words to keep it NPOV and feel that I am on solid ground by doing so. I will look again at the NYT Op-Ed to confirm it meets BLP. If I missed something or am mistaken please let me know.

There is some odd attempts being made on the article that I suspect may be politicaly motivated. False claims that do not match the citation and constitute original research are being made to bring up Rose Bird in a manner that is both false and not at all what the reference says.

Image discussion is to find a suitable image. Most recent portrait taken is not the best choice for many reasons, but the image I placed also does not need to be "The" one. There are hundreds of brand new Creative Commons images and yet the debate has centered around old images.

Sometimes it's ok to go ahead, sometimes it may be better to get some feedback first so you can refine the info a bit & get some support. Especially for the more significant info in a subject area where there may tend to be more editors who are not the most "professional" (i.e. inappropriately involve their personal feelings about the subject & not capable/willing to have the level of discussion that we had on JohnCD's page) and you're a new user on top of that. They can dominate the discussion that way and you won't even get a chance. And for articles about WP like the footnotes, it has a header at the top saying "Please ensure that any edits to this page reflect consensus." San Diego

Hi, Melanie. Because one article can only really use one skyline or maybe two. So I removed about three other "My skyline of San Diego" images that people have added over time. You can put them back if you wish. -SusanLesch (talk) 21:01, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

No problem, I was just curious. If you're interested in fixing a longstanding photo problem at the San Diego article (I'm clueless about photos), you might take a look at the montage at the top of the infobox. One of the photos is of the Hotel del Coronado, which is not actually in San Diego and doesn't belong there. Better photos for that montage could include the Presidio at File:PresdidioPark.jpg , the old Point Loma lighthouse at File:Point loma lighthouse.jpg , etc. If you know how to fix a montage you might take a look at this. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Vasari

I watch that page, and notice that you recently reverted an edit by some unnamed person. I was interested in what they wrote, and checked the talk page. I always find it a bit disappointing when some one, who may be just a kid, gets deleted with a comment that their edit wasn't constructive. There are a great many edits that are simply destructive, but in many cases, kids just want to add something constructive. They know an interesting fact but don't quite know how to go about it. If you've got the time, its often worth encouraging them to put their ideas on the talk page. The statement that Vasari was also a philosopher is worth considering, and looking to see whether or not the philosophical side of his art history has been reasonable covered. Death of Osama bin Laden

Greetings, Brmull. Yes there are several reasons, first and not the least of which is professional respect for the first journalist in the United States to publish news of bin Laden's death. Second, the other reference from Reuters is dated the next day and it does't include the right info either (for example where does it say he died from shots to his chest and head?). This info can go into the U.S. presidential address section. It looks to me like NYT and CNN published on their websites at about the same time, but CBS had confirmed it on Twitter long before that, at 10:36pm EDT. See Techcrunch. Sorry but I don't use tweets for the news. It's just fine to say something but Twitter is not a reliable source like a NYT blog by Helene Cooper is (and her first publication was written over). Rosemary Kennedy edit on July 15, 2011 makes no sense

Hi Susan, There seems to be somthing wrong with this sentence you added to the Rosemary Kennedy article:

The Binet intelligence test given to her before first grade termed her a "moron" with a mental age of 8–12 and an I.Q. of 60 to 70.

The first grade is normally ages six to seven, so "before" the first grade would be ages five to six. Having a mental age of 8-12 at around 5-6 is way above average, and certainly not moronic. Did you confuse two different intelligence tests given to her years apart? Please check your reference source again.

Hi Lifung. Good point. I still have that book but not with me until late September or early October. I seem to recall that the "moron" rating came from a different sentence than Rosemary's testing so I could easily have made an error. Well, I suppose you could do this. All the sources would have to be third-party. You can't cite a sangha to its own web site. Also, you should use a simple bullet-pointed list. Women geoscientists

Your recent edit to List of geophysicists opened my eyes to a gap in the list. I was surprised to find that there were only two women on the list, Marcia and Inge Lehmann. I added a few more, but they are hard to find. (I was delighted to add Tanya Atwater, because I know her and she is a wonderful person.) The most prestigious geophysics-related medals are almost devoid of women, and Wikipedia entries in Category:Women earth scientists are mostly in pretty poor shape.
