ABOUT STEM PROJECT

The project will be implemented all over the Pakistan in 50 Higher Schools (HSSs), including six (6) Cadet Colleges [total 50] to be elected in consultation with Provincial/Area education departments. The project is included in the PSDP 2020-21 of Ministry of Science and Technology. Project Objectives

Primarily, the project is designed to achieve knowledge-based economy by enhancing capacity of Government sector schools across the country. Major objectives of the STEM project are;

i. To officially launch STEM, the modern tool for promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education in Pakistan. In the 1st phase, the project shall be launched initially in 50 pure government Higher Secondary Schools (HSSs) including six (6) Cadet Colleges [total 50] from different districts of Pakistan, further extendable to another 400 schools in the next phase.

ii. To coordinate provision of specialized national and international capacity building programs on STEM education for science teachers and pedagogues of 50 HSSs.

iii. To coordinate development, introduction and adoption of modern pedagogical tools & interventions for STEM including STEM framework/global best practices like IBSE/ LAMAP.

iv. To equip our youth with meaningful learning through hands-on experiences, and improve their cognitive abilities.

v. To develop entrepreneurship skills amongst students through STEM education to make them job givers instead of job seekers, through providing apprenticeships and exposure at national and international levels

vi. To showcase research projects of STEM students through STEM national competitions and events and finally competing international moots.

vii. To prepare a critical mass of science teachers as STEM- Mentors and Innovation Handlers, capable of harnessing the disruptive innovation coming out of FABLABS and transforming this phenomenon into socio-economic wellbeing.

viii. To introduce active learning methods that include communication, collaboration, problem solving, leadership, creativity. To prepare the youth for meeting the incumbent technological needs and challenges facing the country by preparing 21st century workforce through STEM.

PSF has presence all over the country for coordination of STEM project activities. Network of nine sub-offices of PSF is available all over the country for coordination and helping in STEM project with head-office at Islamabad and sub offices at Faisalabad, Multan, Sukkur, Tandojam, Peshawar, Karak, and Quetta.
