Seafood Traceability[edit]
The Great Barrier Reef. Such a beautiful place in Australia. Tho there is one issue. It’s losing color and fish at an alarming rate. Scientists are freaking out at the fact that the reef is dying this fast. There are a few reasons as to this is happening.

One of these reasons is Illegal fishing. Illegal fishing is bad for a few reasons. One reason is that they are mostly fishing endangered fish. Making all of these fish essentially die out faster. And not only that, they fish way too much of that singular species of fish making them obsolete. It also brings the total fish population of the fish down, contributing to the depopulation of the reef.
One thing we can do to stop the illegal fishers from killing actually good fish, is Seafood Traceability. This doesn't sound like it would help at all, but upon further research the plan is almost genius.
The United States alone is the second biggest importer of seafood in the world, right behind the EU. In 2021 alone the commodity brought in 253 billion dollars, which a lot of money. That's more than the Rubber and Coffee markets combined. Tho there is one big problem with these huge markets. We don’t really know if the seafood is legal, bringing Seafood Traceability. This will make seafood need official documentation of multiple things like the vessel the food was caught on, the date, location of the catch, and even the gear that was used. Essentially proving that a catch was legal or not. The illegal catches will not be sold, basically making Illegal catches worthless.
