This is a test page to show what an article, List of One Piece story arcs would look like with a different format.

In the anime/manga One Piece, the story can be divided into several smaller story arcs, many of which can be grouped together into larger sagas. This page acts as a guide to them.

East Blue Saga[edit]

  • Also known as:
  • Episodes: 1 - 61 (English Dub: 1 - 43)
  • Chapters: 1 - 101 (Volumes 1 - 12)

The East Blue Saga is the first part of the story and covers all of the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates that take place in the area of their world known as East Blue, where the majority of the crewmembers at this point hail from. The majority of the arcs act to introduce Monkey D. Luffy and his first four crewmates and are much shorter than what is to follow. In addition, many fans believe that these starting arcs are much worse than later ones and some even recommend to anyone that wants to start watching One Piece to wait until the Arlong Arc before giving up on the series. With few exceptions, the scale of this saga isn't as great as what is to come, as most arcs revolve around local problems that wouldn't cause any real trouble in the world if they were left unchecked.

Captain Morgan Arc[edit]

  • Also known as: Koby Arc; seperately Alvida Arc and Captain Morgan Arc
  • Episodes: 1 - 3
  • Chapters: 1 - 7 (Volume 1)

Story

Despite being grouped under one arc, this part of the story is actually made up of three seperate parts.

  1. Luffy's backstory (Anime Episode 4; Manga Chapter 1)
  2. Conflict with Alvida (Anime Episode 1; Manga Chapter 2)
  3. Conflict with Morgan (Anime Episodes 2 - 3; Manga Chapters 3 - 7)

Some fans count these parts as seperate arcs. The first part of the story, which was moved after the other two in the anime, tells the tale of how Luffy's goal to become Pirate King came to be. As a young boy, Luffy greatly admired a group of pirates that stayed in his town, led by Red-Haired Shanks, and tried various acts to show he was worthy of joining their crew, such as cutting himself under his eye to show how tough he was. One day, through a series of circumstances, Luffy is kidnapped by a bandit and taken out to sea when the two are attacked by a giant Sea King and the thief is devoured. Before Luffy can be eaten too, Shanks comes to the rescue, losing his arm in the process. Soon afterwards, the pirates get ready to leave the town, and when Luffy states that he doesn't want to join their crew anymore, instead becoming a pirate on his own, Shanks hands his straw hat to Luffy, telling him to give it back to him only once he surpasses him.

Ten years later, Luffy has left his hometown and started his journey, only to be caught in a whirpool and hides in a barrel as his ship is torn apart. He is picked up by a group of pirates led by Alvida and he meets a boy named Koby who was forced into the pirate crew--in actuality his goal is to become a Navyman. Luffy easily defeats Alvida's entire pirate crew, including Alvida herself, and the two journey to a nearby Navy base led by Captain Morgan.

In the Navy base a world-famous bounty hunter named Roronoa Zoro was captured, and Luffy wanted a powerful fighter like him to be part of his crew. Luffy goes to where he was being held and offers to help him escape, but Zoro refuses. As it turns out, he was arrested for attacking Captain Morgan's son, who was harrassing some of the villagers, and was told that he would be released after a few months, but in actuality he was to be executed that day. When Zoro learns of this, Luffy and Koby return to rescue him, in the process removing Morgan, who was a cruel leader, from power. Afterwards, Koby is allowed to join the Navy there and Zoro officially joins Luffy's crew, stating that if Luffy gets in the way of his goal of becoming the world's greatest swordsman he'll kill him. The two set off in a small boat, neither of them having any clue where they're going.

Notes

In the manga, Zoro's past is revealed just before Luffy rescues him from being executed, in chapter 5, but this is moved to after the Kuro Arc in the anime.
