Ekow Nimako is a Ghanaian Canadian artist known for creating sculptures out of Lego. His Lego sculptures focus mainly on African culture, history, and futurism[1]. Ekow Nimako's signature is his use of primarily black Lego with the final piece containing his name in gold. He often utilizes smooth Lego pieces to cover over the obvious bumps on the traditional Lego brick.[2]

Ekow Nimako studied art at York University in Toronto, Canada.[3]

In 2014 he received a Canadian grant to showcase his art during the country's Black History Month.[4] His work has since been exhibited in internationally. Countries that have exhibited his work include Germany, South Korea, and the UK.[5]

His favorite piece is a statue titled Asase Efua which translates to Flower Girl. The piece was designed to highlight the lost innocence of African girls taken to the West due to the slave trade.[6][7] One of his most recent works is a commissioned piece titled The Great Turtle Race.[8]
