Pattabiram is a suburb situated within the Chennai Metropolitan Area of the Western City of Chennai (formerly known as Madras), India. The town, which falls under the local administrative limits of AVADI Municipality, is about 25 km from the Chennai Central Railway station.

Pattabiram is served by frequent suburban trains to different parts of Chennai City, especially Chennai Central and Chennai Beach Railway stations. All trains bound for Thirvallur, Arakkonam, and Pattabiram Military Siding stop at Pattabiram Railway station, with the exception of a few fast trains. The suburb is also served by a number of Chennai Metropolitan buses from different parts of the city and surrounding suburban areas.

Train[edit]

All normal EMU trains bound to Thiruvallur, Arakkonam, Kadambathur, Thiruvalangadu and Tirutani starting from Chennai Central and Chennai Beach halt at Pattabiram. Separate station is for Pattabiram Military Siding also situated North side from Pattabiram Railway station.

By Air[edit]

The nearest airport is Chennai International Airport, which is approximately 30 km from Pattabiram.

Central hub[edit]

Pattabiram is a central hub for all neighbouring villages and towns within a 10 km radius on all sides. Residents of several nearby towns, such as Annaikatucheri, Palavedu, Muthayalputhupettai, Avadi, Amudhurmedu, and Poonamalle, need to alight at Pattabiram (junction) to access other places.

Educational Institutions[edit]

Among the major institutions in Pattabiram is an old and famous Hindu college affiliated with the University of Madras. The college offers Postgraduate and Graduate courses, including computer science. There are also quite a few engineering and arts colleges within the vicinity, including AMS Engineering College, Jaya Engineering College, and Jaya College of Arts and Science.

Industries[edit]

Historically, one of Pattabiram's major industries was Southern Structural Limited, a factory which produced pressure vessels, steel fabrication, and container-handling cranes. Opened in 1958, the company was owned by Tamil Nadu Govt, with a total of 850 employees. The factory eventually closed and has not re-opened.
