Your response

Actually, my real motives for asking the question, was because I havn't recieved any new messages recently, and I miss the little orange bar that says "You have a new message". Gherkin30 18:31, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Please do not add this just to see the new message icon, it is highly inappropriate and wll most likely confuse Wikipedians when they could be contributing in a worthwhile way instead of sending you messges just to see the orange new message bar. Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Image:Baby goats jan 2007.jpg

I reverted your closure of this featured picture nomination and might revert others too. Unless this is an undeclared sockpuppet account you don't have the service time at WP:FPC to make those calls. ~ trialsanderrors 09:58, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I do not understand your comments on my user talk page, they seem uncivil, you are accusing me of sockpuppetry. Does it really matter whether I'm new or not, I closed a featured picture candidate which had been left not closed for much more than seven days and consensus was not in favour of promoting, you dont need to be an administrator to close candidates for feautred pictures, any users can do it. I shall re-close the nomination and again review the consensus and make a decision. Regards - The Sunshine Man 10:11, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Sockpuppet accounts are all undeclared secondary accounts, some are used against policy, others aren't, so there is no inherent accusation in pointing out that your contributions don't look like those of a typical new editor. But in either case, whether you have an alternative account or just started editing, you don't have the contribution record for the community to inspect, so trust in your decision making skills cannot be established. I recommend you participate in FPC discusions as an editor so that the community can judge your competence rather than just assert it yourself. ~ trialsanderrors 10:31, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't follow trialsanderrors statement at all. I don't believe there has ever been a service time requirement for WP:FPC. The closure was the "right" decision as there was no consensus for the image to be promoted. As long as it is closed properly, what does it matter? Which, by the way, {{fpc}} needs to be removed from the image pages.--PS2pcGAMER (talk) 10:36, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
If a closure goes against consensus, it can always be changed. I closed a FPC nom with the wrong decision before, someone brought it to my attention, I fixed it, no big deal. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 10:38, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Featured pictures

Hi, I noticed you've been closing some of the Featured Picture discussions. It seems that when you've been promoting the images, you've forgotten to update the count at the top of WP:FP. Could you please be sure to do that? That's not automatically updated by a bot or anything. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 16:18, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

checkY My apologies, I must of missed that in the instructions, I thought it was automatic like the counter at the top of WP:GA, thanks for bringing it to my attention. Cheers! The Sunshine Man 16:21, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
The FA count at the top of WP:GA isn't really automatic. It's only included from WP:FA, but that number is manually updated from what I can tell. And the GA count is also manually updated. It would be nice if we had a bot that does it, though. howcheng {chat} 17:47, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Would be much easier I agree, however when you go to edit WP:GA it transcludes information from a template about the number of GA's so I thought it was automatic. The Sunshine Man 17:49, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey, you haven't added the article to WP:GA. Also in your your review you used the GA failed template, but you passed on every criteria and added the GA banner, so it take it that you did actaully pass it. Gran2 21:47, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Age of Mythology GA

You mentioned here that it passed 5 of the 6 criteria. Just to clarify, does this mean that when we fix up the problems with the {{fact}} template, it will be GA ready? ~ G1ggy! Reply | Powderfinger! 23:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Closing of tomato nomination

Hi Sunshine Man,
Could you please provide your reasoning for a non promotion of here? I count them up as follows: Support - 15 votes, Oppose 5 votes, 3 weak opposes, which makes a supermajority by two support votes. Furthermore, some of the oppose votes were not reflective of the criteria set out in WP:FP?. --Fir0002 08:00, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

☒N Many of the votes were against it and many for it, the dont have to follow the criteria but many of the oppose comments were valid and saying about the texture of the image, I counted up 14 in support, 8 oppose, this is more than half opposing and therefore does not meet the required 2/3 approximately of support, it had more than 4 supports but a promotion did not seem in order, if you still day agree you could require a review and then consider re-nominating it later and see how it turns out, I dont mean to offend you but I was making a decision based on community consensus. Kind regards - The Sunshine Man 11:35, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't think you quite understand the closing procedure. First, nominator's, even self nominator's, vote counts. Second the 2/3 supermajority is formed like this. Hence the "scores" are 15*1 = 15 for support. 5*2 + 3*1 = 10 + 3 = 13. Thus it has consensus by 2 support votes. Please make sure you understand procedures before committing yourself to the task of closing nominations, particularly those which aren't clear cut. Lastly, Wikipedia:Picture peer review is not for the funciton you described. It's a step lower than FPC where those unsure of themselves can put up photos for comment before submission to FPC - essentially it's there to weed out nominations which don't have a snowball's chance --Fir0002 07:16, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
☒N I do understand the closing procedure of FPC's, yes I am new here but I am still familiar with it, you may wish to contact User:MER-C as he/she is a regular FPC closer and see what he thinks, I dont want this to turn into a conflict and I do not want any negative feelings to be caused either. The Sunshine Man 09:35, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't think that will be necessary, see I too closed many nominations. Did you read the link I sent? Please do. That was were it was established that:
  1. Support: 1 points
  2. Weak support: 0.5 points
  3. Neutral: 0 points
  4. Weak oppose: -1 points
  5. Oppose: -2 points

And if you add up the votes and the sum is equal to or greater than 0 you get a 2/3 supermajority. ]. Hence the "scores" are 15*1 = 15 for support. 5*2 + 3*1 = 10 + 3 = 13. And 15-13 is 2 (ie greater than 0 and a supermajority). Oh, make sure you read the comments below the above summary where it was discussed and agreed that strong supports/opposes did not count for any more than normal supports/oppose. I don't want it to turn into a conflict either, just point out a few things you should learn before closing noms! --Fir0002 10:03, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Per WP:WIAGA, 2b says "cites reliable sources for quotations and for material that is challenged or likely to be challenged, preferably using inline citations for longer articles" (my emphasis). I still find it strange for you to be failing GAC's given that the article was (is) adequately referenced. It seems the issue is more a very minor one of style rather than missing content.
I don't wish to hound you as I can see that you are doing a great job helping with the backlog of GAC's and I really appreciate the work you do. But I would like to discuss this further if possible. —Moondyne 02:41, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Marcus dwayne dixon

I switched the tag on the article, seeing as it is a copy and paste from http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1073944821942 (not to mention a recreation). The thing is, he IS worthy enough of an article, being covering in numerous media outlets, that article just needs to be written to Wikipedia standards. Wildthing61476 16:00, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for review, even if it failed GA-you failed it on factual accuracy with the comment Many statements in the first two sections are unsourced, just so I can fix the article-did you mean the first two paras of the intro, which are unsourced, or sections 1 and 2 (ie dRTA and pRTA)-which are fairly well sourced-if it's the latter, could you point out which bits I need to source better, if you've got a mo? Some friendly advice

Sunshine Man, I hate to dampen your enthusiasm, but I strongly suggest that you stop closing debates and reviewing GAC's until you have some more experience. Many long term users will find it discourteous for their articles to be reviewed by an editor who has been here for less than a week and who cannot possibly fully understand all of the policies and guidelines we need to follow.

In the meantime, I suggest that you restrict yourself to editing articles and reverting vandalism and leave the other stuff to editors with broader experience. —Moondyne 09:56, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Seconded from the FPC corner!! --Fir0002 10:04, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
The way you are putting me aside just because I'm new is uncivil and unfair, you dont have to be a b'crat to know policy or make a fair decision, I'm going to comment on WP:ANI about this. The Sunshine Man 11:31, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
That reaction just reinforces my advice. You need to contribute in other areas for a while and build your experience before getting too involved in the more administrative tasks. I am sorry if you took my suggestion the wrong way but it was genuinely given in good faith. Of course you are free to complain to whoever you like, but I would expect the advice will be the same. —Moondyne 13:05, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Recent Events

Sunshine Man, I am sorry you have felt attacked or unwelcomed. Please no that that was not anyone's intent. You seem to be an eager, and potentially very helpful editor. There are some decisions on wikipedia which people look for someone to make who has more experience than you currently have. The reason for this is not because new users have no value to the project. Rather, it is because there are some things that can only be learned through experience. For example - a wide range of articles are submitted for GA status, and it takes some experience to learn to finesse the difference between a decent article and a GA. In particular, getting involved in writing articles is something that can only help. In writing articles, you learn all the things that go into a GA.

I hope that you will not leave the project, but will rather get involved with a WP:Wikiproject and work on providing content for the encyclopedia. With time, you will learn the policies better and elarn more about how articles are written, improved, and evaluated. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Pastor David 15:14, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

I would like to echo David's comments. You are truly one of the most ambitious new contributors that I have ever met and I would hate to see you leave. It is disturbing the way people went about addressing their concerns to you. I disagree with you being asked not to close any FPC nominations. If consensus is clear and you close it that way, I don't see the issue. However, I do agree that it may be a good idea to stay away from the more contentious nominations, at least for a few weeks until you have a little more experience (and credibility, so to speak) under your belt. Determining consensus is a very difficult task and it is something that generates a lot of controversy anytime it is a close call. For example, one of the reasons that many "voters" at WP:RfA require that people have months of experience before becoming an admin is that admins have the power to determine consensus on WP:AfD, etc. It takes time to get a feel for the community as you often have to rely on intuition. Determining consensus isn't just about supermajority or any pre-determined formulas.
I'll give my two cents on two of your more recent contentious closures. I fully agree with the goat image not being promoted. I felt that the opposers had very valid objections. For the tomato nomination, I felt that image was technically very well done and if I were closing the nomination, I would have promoted it. The opposers just had a weaker rationale in this situation.
Anyway, I hope you don't leave for good. If you do return, you might want to consider another aspect of Wikipedia. Wikipedia has many various sub-cultures, so your experience might be different. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 07:53, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm happy to see that you are sticking around. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 10:08, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Images

Hi Sunshine! (if I may...)

I use Corel Paint Shop Pro X, but it's just as easy to do in The GIMP.

First, download the Dymo label font (GF Ordner Normal) - from here for instance.

Open a nice big transparent empty image. Add the text you want with a subtle gradient fill as it gives a nice 3D impression. Now draw a white box slightly smaller than the text and send it behind the text image. Merge the visible layers into one and rotate the result slightly. Apply a nice perspective shadow. Save as a PNG with alpha transparency. Upload to Wikipedia under a free licence. Done!

The result should look something like:

Hope this helps!  ⋐⋑ REDVEЯS 17:51, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

It's just a gradient. Pick a colour you like, then a slightly darker version (reduce the luminance or brightness). The software can be made to do a gradual fill between the two. The font itself does the rest, being inverted so that the surrounding is dark and the letters clear (thus the white box to drop behind the text to fill the letters in).  ⋐⋑ REDVEЯS 19:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

FPC

I'm a newbie over at Featured Picture Candidates, and I've closed one FPC so far. It took me about half of an hour, involved a really embaressing edit [1]], and I haven't done one since. Right now, Iapetus needs a close (promoted). I've been hesitating to do it because it just takes so long. I'm pretty sure absolutely everyone would be grateful and happy to see you close that as support. We, do, repeatedly, get huge backlogs on FPC, and it's because closing to promote is so much trouble. I don't think it's because finding consensus is usually difficult, so I think you could make a great contribution, in line with your extremely prolific and impressive contributions, by closing obvious nominations. I don't honestly know anything about seeing consensus in close nominations; I've yet to find a really clear policy on what a consensus means. I strongly suspect that people will only be comfortable with closers in close nominations if they know that closer. In other words, I suspect you have to contribute to voting before people will be comfortable with you closing close noms. I don't know if a self-proclaimed wiki-gnome will ever be known enough by the regular population of FPC to close contested noms. When people say slow down, they don't mean "slow down editing" they mean "do the uncontroversial work that needs to be done." I'm already impressed and intimidated by your contributions, so keep up the good work! Enuja 18:48, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi there The Sunshine Man. It's good to see you again. Yes you heard me, dial-up, which is actually the reason I wasn't too enthusiastic for an RfA. You know what, let's do this! I am going back to Canada in 40 days, and I will have a reliable broadband connection waiting for me there. Yes, I think now is a good time for my RfA. I am really humbled by your altruism. I completely rewrote Faten Hamama's article and got it to GA status (planning to get to FA status in June or July). I wrote 7 articles which are all B-class and were featured on DYK. I've done a lot of map work recently; the only place to find the maps of the districts of Syria is here, in Wikipedia. I've created a lot of dynamic maps ({{Syria Labelled Map}} and all its governorates). I pretty much completely created and set up WikiProject Syria; I've done a lot of work with this Project (leave that for my questions). I've also done a lot of work with WP:FILM, writing many film-related articles and working with some of its members. You can also see my articles. Thanks! —Anas talk? 13:54, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I think most people access user talk pages at least as often, and probably more often, than user pages. To have to get to a talk page via the user page seems one step too many. Xiner (talk) 15:12, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah sure, no problem. Another question: on your user page it says you "became a Wikipedian on 2007-03-03", which would contradict your assertion of who you were. Some people may find that uncomfortable, especially if you're to go through RfA in the future. Xiner (talk) 15:16, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Sweet Tea Queens

Hi,

I have stricken your comment from the AfD -- G4 cannot apply, because DRV has overturned the prior deletions (and has also ruled that the content is substantially different in any case.) You might want to comment again, after reading the sources listed in the DRV. Best wishes, Xoloz 18:56, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Of course!

Of course I don't mind, dear Sunny Man! :) I've taken the liberty of messing a little with HTML code and made a greenish sig for you; I've stored it here. Try it, and let me know if that's ok! :) Have a beautiful day! Phaedriel - 21:03, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Your VandalProof Application

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, The Sunshine Man. As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that you have only been editing for fourteen days as of this juncture, and we have been instructed to blanket-decline any usersthat have not been editing for at least one full month.

Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank again for your interest in VandalProof. Daniel 04:53, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Question

Hi, I'm trying to look forward positively from my rfa and I'm curious as to what you meant when you said I needed more Xfd work. I do comment on IFD, MFD, and AFD when I see things that look interesting. Can you provide some guidance as to how I would meet your criteria? Nardman1 07:27, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

column widths

thanks for your help on this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UEFA_Champions_League_broadcasters, but i tried everything to no joy. could you please find a way to readjust it to the following widths - Country-100px, Language-100px, Tuesday Night-200px, Wednesday Night-200px. trust me to try tables on my first article!!!--Htb50 20:56, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks, indeed you are right, I have done the width properly, BUT according to the help article, wrapping of text should automatically occur, but it does not, thus causing the 'Tuesday Night' to be very much wider than desired. Is there anyway to manuelly inforce wrapping of text?--Htb50 21:32, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Thanks for your help, I've realised what I was doind wrong and I've sorted it out. I've had the names seperate from the logos as sometimes they are hard to read. Thanks again:)--Htb50 12:54, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

My RfA, a success

Hi The Sunshine Man. How are you doing today? My RfA just closed successfully, and I have received my new mop. I don't really know how to thank you! I was very humbled by your grand nomination statement, and am quite fortunate to have your support. I appreciate the time you have taken to nominate me and examine my contributions, and I hope I will not let your time be squandered. I will try my best not to let you or any of my supporters down. On a side note, I am really impressed with the excellent job you're doing here and I am positive I will see you mopping around soon; I will make sure of that. ;-) Thank you again, I am grateful. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day. :-) —Anas talk? 15:40, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I definitely remember you from your old account. If you wouldn't have noted that, I wouldn't have known it was the same person! This is absolutely a new, better start for you. This is a small place, I'm sure we'll meet again. :-) Best of luck to you, my friend. Warmly, Anas talk? 18:29, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

uw-sandbox series

Hey Sunshine Man! I was looking through CAT:UWT and saw a uw-sandbox series. I think these templates are unneeded as a user doesn't really need a warning for this because a bot replaces it anyway. Since your old account was the creator, would you mind speedying them if you agree? --R ParlateContribs@ (Let's go Yankees!) 00:59, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Would you mind making them into a single use template? I don't think we need four warning for something like the sandbox. Also, maybe you can reword it to make it work with all sandboxes, and not just the main one. --R ParlateContribs@ (Red Sux!) 23:10, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Former English

Hi, I reverted your edit to Paul Adcock as 'English former professional footballer' denotes what he is, an English person who used to play football professionally. The way you changed it ('former English professional footballer') makes it sound like he's not English anymore, but still a professional footballer. Hope that makes sense. I got the idea from Persian Poet Gal, who said she used Adobe photoshop. (The entire discussion can be found here.) I used Microsoft Digital Image made a text-box with the font "Copperplate Gothic Bold", clicked on Effects → Gradient which led me to a window with an option on the left hand side that said "Choose a theme" or "Gradient". I clicked on Gradient and OK in the window that popped up saying "All objects will be flattened.....bla bla bla" and voila! I hope that wasn't too confusing. :) ~ Magnus animuM ≈ √∞ 18:27, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Lydekker park

Cheers for the edit on Lydekker park - I didn't mean the "finally" to be critical so much as to try and emphasise the time that passed (11 years) between probate of the will and the park being opened to the public. Advice...

Could you give me some advice?
You see, approximately two months ago, I put in an RFA, viewable here. It was unsuccessful. Now, I've gained much more experience, and I was thinking or putting in a second RFA. Do you think I should? If you could, please leave your answer on my talk page. Thanks! -Billy227, review my account!! talk contribs sndbx usbx 20:01, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

☒N Replied on your talk page as requested Hello, I strongly object to you going for RfA again, you say your other RfA was 2 months ago, it only ended about 15 days ago, I dont think you are ready for adminship yet, if I may - I would like to make a few suggestions for improvements:

  1. Ready WP:CANVAS, you have been canvassing user talk pages asking for advice about whether you should go for RfA, this is generally frowned upon.
  2. Help with maintenance and cleaning up articles and not just RC patrolling, yes this is vital to Wikipedias functioning but may users including myself see this as important and knowing how to do other things other than vandalism reverting.
  3. May I ask why you made this edit to an article?
  4. For an article as small as this which you tagged as unreferenced seems a little inappropriate, I think it would have been better if you'd actually referenced the article, its information is very minimal so this wouldn't take long.
  5. Shorten down your sig, it is currently very long — is it really neccessary to have links to your userbox page and sandbox page in it, you could always link to them from your userpage.
  6. Refrain from always asking users to reply on your talk page, many users like myself tend to reply on my talk page and find it rather annoying, sometimes you have to be a bit flexible and abide by other users talk page rules, if it says that comments will be replied to on that page, please dont ask them to reply on your talk page.

So please, do not attempt RfA until at least July 2007, I think you need more experience and definitely a higher edit count, I'd suggest at least 3000 with 1500-2000 to the main article space and some good talk/user talk/wikipedia talk communication edits. Kindest Regards

Thank you VERY much for your excellent suggestions. I'll be sure to follow your advice. Thanks again! -Billy227{{SUBST:review me! talk contribs}} 21:07, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
You're very welcome! I definitely think you could be an admin in the future with some improvements. Also your RfA was definitely not two months ago, you wrote your statement at 17:13 9 May [2007]] and it was withdrew by an admin at approx 23:25 May 10 2007, also your sig seems to be displaying incorrectly - if you need a hand just give me a shout. Good luck! The Sunshine Man 21:11, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Your Review of Emmett Watson article

Thanks so much for reviewing and providing feedback for the article Emmett Watson. I'm not sure how to resolve the issue with the photograph--I emailed the photo editor at the Seattle PI to request a photo (and permission to use them) and he emailed me two photos along with permission to use them on Wikipedia. I still have that email. Can you let me know how I should proceeed? Thanks, --DHLister | Talk 22:06, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Well, images should provide links to where they came from so I think you should mention in the source:
  1. That permission has been given for usage in Wikipedia.
  2. A link to the website its from so if anyone wanted to check they could.

I think that it could definitely pass as a GA once the sub-sections have been made and once the reference section is cleaned up, then the image is almost there, it just needs a few minor adjustments, please feel free to renominate it when uyou think its been brought up to standard, or ask me if you wish and I'll do it. Kindest Regards The Sunshine Man 10:02, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, so much!

My dearest Sunshine Man, I have no words to tell you how deeply your wonderful gift touched me, to the point that my eyes got a little wet. I don't think I deserve the title you've so graciously and kindly bestowed upon me, but in moments like this, it's best not to say anything but let the heart speak. Yes, I know. I use twinkle and the script leaves a duplicate signature in warnings. I discovered this error, but I keep forgetting to remove the extra four tildes. I have since left a note in the TW talk page. By the way, there's an unclosed font code in your talk page instructions. :-) Cheers, Anas talk? 15:52, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Metcall GAC

Would you be willing to take a second look at Metcall — I've greatly expanded the "how the system works" section in response to the issues you raised.

I agree that it's a little heavy on staff roles (it originally began as an article on the job rather than the place, as part of a series on law enforcement support staff, before I realised that it needed an article on the place to make sense, and it made no sense keeping the job and the place as separate articles). Part of the problem was caused by the fact that the staff section had separate subsections relating to each job, making it appear longer than it actually is.

In all honesty, I think it's now expanded as far as it can go. As a very secretive program, there's not a lot of press coverage of it other than reprinted press releases which I've tried to avoid as non-neutral — if you follow the references, you'll see that most of the sources seem to have been dragged out grudgingly under the Freedom of Information Act. I absolutely agree about the lack of pictures, but unfortunately even the addresses of the other two centres are secret, I'm unable to find any public domain photographs of the inside of the buildings, and I don't see any useful purpose in repeat photos of the one rather nondescript building whose address is in the public domain (quite aside from the fact that "hanging round outside secret security installation taking photos" probably isn't good for anyone's health). If you've any suggestions as to how to improve it, I'd welcome them — I think it's a genuinely useful article given the lack of coverage elsewhere. (It isn't original research, but it does cobble together a lot of snippets that as far as I'm aware aren't collected anywhere else, to put together a picture of what the program is supposed to be doing and where it's succeeding/failing in doing so.)iridescenti (talk to me!) 16:38, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

thanks for adopting me. i'm not a total newbie, but i do have some questions.

a. Do you actually have to do something to be part of a wikiproject? or do you just edit whatever is on that wikiproject page?

b. What is the difference between a wiki project and a portal? is someone assigned to edit the portal to change all the stuff that is different each day (such as featured image) or does it somehow do it automatically?

Tompkins Square Park Police Riot - Thank you

I really appreciate the note and the striking out. I was surprised by the strong oppose and the comment. I had tried to write the Tompkins riot article as NPOV as possible, so I was disheartened when the first comment was what you had wrote. It was a challenging historical episode to write, but one that had yet to be documented thoroughly. I wrote it a year ago, and time and Wikipedia's evolved standards have rendered some of the things I did with it (legal citation, single source) dated, but back then this was possibly one of the more heavily sourced articles. I think the topic, that the police (by their own admission) were responsible for a riot rubs some people the wrong way. My own prejudice writing the article was that I had no sympathy for the goals of the protesters (to allow the debauchery and hijacking of the park to continue) and no sympathy for the police response (which was caused by poor leadership, a hot summer, and New York City still in the midst of governing chaos). In the year since I wrote that, I've grown and matured a lot in how I edit and my writing style on Wikipedia. So, I really appreciate your actions today. It made me feel good. Best to you, and keep up the excellent work. --David Shankbone 13:54, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

My RFA

Updated DYK query You supported my candidacy in my recently completed request for adminship. The debated ended 40/4/1 and I'm now an administrator. I'd just like to say thanks for taking the time to consider me, and thanks for the confidence in me. I hope your confidence in me proves to be justified.

Regards, WilyD

I've replied on your talk page, Congratulations! The Sunshine Man 14:20, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Coaching

I have just noticed you have this coaching section provided on part of your userpage. What is that all about? Francisco Tevez 15:30, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, Admin coaching is when a user pairs up with a coach(es) who is a Wikipedia administrator and they help them along the way if the "coachee" wants to be an admin or would like to learn, they ask questions and test their knowledge of policy and then give them constructive feedback and suggest areas to improve, for more info you can see Wikipedia:Admin coaching.

Jaffa Phonix

I added some references to Jaffa Phonix. --Eastmain 23:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

When I commented on the articles AfD debate I said it does not meet WP:BAND#Primary criterion, 1st point which band-related article have to meet in order to be notable, I still stick by my comment — happy editing. Kindest Regards --The Sunshine Man 09:54, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

My Page

Ha, thanks for the offer. I like the way you have your pages but I'm thinking of having a blue-ish color scheme. Thanks again ;) --Cadet hastings 15:07, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

So you'd like it like mine, is that what your saying? You'll have to select a colour for it (I suggest seeing the list of colors) and you'll have to tell me a brief outline of what you'd like on it and any graphics, leave a note when you've decided. The Sunshine Man 16:48, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alexander Nevzorov

Excellent close. Consensus was clearly against my proposal. --Tony Sidaway 23:59, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, that means a lot to me :-) I was going through the main AfD page looking for debates which could be closed early because consensus was clearly in favour of keep or speedy keep. Anyway, thanks again — . --The Sunshine Man 08:44, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Question about Images.

I am going through the Digimon images and was wondering if I was adding the FUR correctly, I have currently only done three as I neglected to read the whole deletion comment, or more specifically, the do not remove this message part. The images I have done are Goldramon, Allomon and AeroVeedramon. Would you please check them. trainra 03:42, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry — I dont really understand what you mean by this, maybe you could ask someone else, I'm even unsure what FUR is, sorry again. Regards --The Sunshine Man 13:45, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
WP:FURG, fair use rationale. I found about about this term because of the current Betacommand overhaul. -N 14:28, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Doing... Oh, fair use rationle templates, you'll have to provide links to the images which you uploaded. The Sunshine Man 14:30, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
The images were [5], [6] and [7]. I didn't upload them though, I am just trying to stop them getting deleted. Sorry for confusing you, thank you very much. trainra 07:18, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Usernames

It doesn't matter who reports usernames. Secretlondon 15:27, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Please leave new comments under a new section header to avoid confusion, I think it would be considered courteous not to remove a report left by another user and report exactly the same username at WP:UFA and move the original reporters comments to the bottom so it looks like you made the report and that the person who really made the report doesn't look like they just added extra info. The Sunshine Man 15:30, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

{{UK-theatre-stub}}

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 02:32, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Wouldn't you say that you may be a sock puppet. It's just, if you look up Mr. oompapa, then it says that you are a sock puppet of the puppeteer of Oompapa. Please get back to me. Christine118247 15:55, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Is =

Hello, with respect I think you should be careful when saying users are sockpuppets, I'm not offended at this because I can assure you I'm not a sockpuppet of User:Mr Oompapa, I made sure not to violate WP:SOCK when I decided to get a fresh start under this account. Thank you for participating in either of my unsuccessful requests for adminship. Although the experience was frustrating, it showed me some mistakes I was making, and I hope to learn from those mistakes.

Please take a few minutes to read User:YechielMan/Other stuff/RFA review and advise me how to proceed. Best regards. YechielMan 21:41, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Ergonomics ELs

I don't understand your criteria for deleting many of the external links, especially the professional societies. Could you please explain them a few at a time? -- Ronz  17:05, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I still don't understand your criteria for allowing some but not other professional societies. I've started a discussion: Talk:Ergonomics#Recent_External_links_cleanup. -- Ronz  17:29, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Why thanks, but atm, I'm not sure I'd have the time for such work (with dev stuff and all). Voice-of-All 18:17, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

About the sandbox...

Hi there! As you can see here, I did not remove the header from the sandbox. It had already been removed by someone else and in fact I wasn't aware that the sandbox was supposed to have a header, so I simply erased something another user had written and left the page blank :P Teo64x 19:15, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Please accept my apologies, I saw the edit summary of Blanked the page and thought you had blanked it, I should have been more careful. Again; apologies --The Sunshine Man 16:37, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind consideration. It is most appreciated, I will check to see how you done it so I remember in future. :)). Francisco Tevez 17:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
You welcome, if there is anything else I can help with then please tell me. Regards --The Sunshine Man 17:15, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Aare you doing adoption at the moment, as reading what it says on your sandbox? Francisco Tevez 17:43, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I'm not adopting at the moment, if you take a look at WP:ADOPT then you can see users who are available for adopting. Cheers --The Sunshine Man 15:06, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Your Db on Julia Tutweiler

The author blanked the page when you tagged this one. I was about to tag it as blanked when I saw the original from you. I'm not sure of the procedure from there. As an aside; Julia Tutweiler does have some notability, at least in Alabama. Cheers! --Stormbay 22:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Was only joking TSM!! Why don't you go ahead now and add a nomination? It'll be up and running within the net couple of days. Ryan Postlethwaite 11:39, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

TfD nomination of Template:Bcratbacklog

Template:Bcratbacklog has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. Wikihermit (TalkHermesBot) 02:27, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: (User talk:ais523) TfD's

I deliberately didn't noinclude the {{tfd-inline}} tag. The notification that the template is up for TfD is needed to alert people who use the template that it's due to be deleted (much like putting {{subst:afd}} on an article). There are two TfD tags available precisely for this reason (one with block formatting ({{tfd}}) and one with inline formatting {{tfd-inline}}), so the tag can be added without unduly disrupting formatting. --ais523 13:44, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but you should noinclude this because then it was inclusing the TfD deletion tag across several AfD pages and other pages, it does say at the top of the TfD page to noinclude it. Regards --The Sunshine Man 14:50, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Only if the template's meant to be substed, which this one wasn't (and then only because removing the TfD notice from the substed versions would be a pain). The inclusion of the deletion notice into the AfD pages where the template is used was deliberate, as I've explained above. --ais523 15:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but this template was not meant to be substituted, even if it was meant to be subst'ed, the TfD tag would still have to be noincluded, you also forgot to add it to {{administrator}} when you nominate that for deletion. Regards --The Sunshine Man 15:59, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
I think you may have misread my last comment; neither template was meant to be substed, so I didn't noinclude the TfD notice, on either {{administrator}} or {{good}} etc.. --ais523 16:16, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes and another user had to add the noinclude tag because it made thousands of admin userpages go wrong. The Sunshine Man 16:17, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Broadwater Farm

If you're still available for WP:GA/Rs, could you take a look over Broadwater Farm and see if you think it'll pass or if not, what changes you think ought to be made? It's bugged me for at least a year that it redirected to Riot - it might be what the area's best known for, but it always seemed as silly to me as redirecting Hiroshima to Atomic bomb or David Beckham to Football. What I intended to be a short stub to fill the gap has somehow sprawled into IMO possibly the best article I've yet written. Incidentally, nominating it as a GAC within 2 minutes of creation isn't quite as arrogant as it looks - it's been sitting in userspace for some time being tweaked and poked so I'm more familiar with it that that time-lag would suggestiridescenti (talk to me!) 16:14, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the co-nom etc. I think i needed more time to think about things and i was wondering if my one was a bit premature. I suppose i'm not experienced enough but there were other factors. Dear Qst, thanks for your support in my recent RfA, it was, however, unsuccessful. I am not the type of editor to be disheartened by such a result, and have gained much experience. If you have anything to contribute by way of improvements or comments, please don’t hesitate to tell me.

I will run again. Until then, Cheers, Dfrg.msc 07:57, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
